Dos Rios Mexican Bar & Grill
Arrived early was seated fairly soon although the restaurant was not crowded. The food was really good and we enjoyed the afternoon. Even the take home the next day was still full of flavor. We will definitely go back again
I do like Dos Rios - mainly go for lunch or for happy hour. But this time, I did a special reservation in Open Table and requested a table instead of a booth. The reservation was for 5:45; we got there at about 5:30. The restaurant had about 2 tables and 3 booths occupied - so there were plenty of tables and booths available. There was already a group of people waiting to be sat. Instead of seating the group, the hostess decided to bus a table. Then came back and looked on the computer and decided to seat the people. Then some other people walked in and she took their name. She finally called me - and said "Sally, call ahead"... when I actually had made a reservation... and then she seated us in a booth in the bar area (I had requested a table). The waitress comes and introduces herself by saying. "Hi guys, I'm ____ and I'll be taking care of you". I am not a guy. Then instead of asking if she can take are plates, she says..."are you done". These two areas (hostess and waitress) need some additional training, in my opinion.
Great location and ambiance. Friendly wait staff and no wait after making reservation. Plenty of parking for Saturday and you do get a great amount of food.
However, there is plenty room for improvement. We had a party of 5 and all tried different dishes. Come to find out, they were "sold out" of an entree. This shouldn't happen as it's the weekend and the kitchen should be able to cook any entree on the menu. Also, salsas and guacamole had excessive onions in them which takes away from the flavor and taste. Tortillas were great but once again borracho beans had excessive onions in them. Ribs had no flavor. Lacked seasoning and overcooked. Beef fajita nachos were fine. However don't anticipate your norm Mexican refried beans here. Grilled shrimp and chicken fajitas were fine. Nothing spectacular.
We then ordered different cocktails from the bar and once again we were told "we don't have that signature cocktail"...Again, bar should of had all ingredients to make a signature cocktail. Especially on a Saturday. I then ordered a shot of 1800 tequila, again told "we don't have any. This was not a good impression of this restaurant for our first time.
Overall this restaurant is ok. Not worth the trip from SA for what we paid. Expected a lot more since it's sister company The Reel used to be a great place to go. This is a good place for locals and a quick bite.
We made a reservation through open table but did no good. Had to remind the greeter twice to seat us. Food was mediocre. Would not recommend it or go again.
Service was great. We had a large party and the were more than accommodating.
Short staffed but good food.
Great food and great service! One of our favorites
The food is always really great especially the beef fajitas. The service is mediocre and it looks like they have high turnover on the waitstaff. Overall we enjoy eating there.
Despite receiving a confirmation email from Open Table, the restaurant hostess told us they did not have our reservation and it would be a long wait for a table. Disappointing. We didn’t stay so this review is NOT about the food or service. We have had very good dining experiences here in the past. This is the second time, however, where the restaurant had no record of our Open Table reservation. There doesn’t seem to be any other effective forum for dealing with this, so I’m putting it here in the review section.
We go to Dos about 2 times a week. It is either wow that was a great meal or you leave scratching your head wondering what just happened, and why do we keep coming back? There is no in between. When it’s good, it’s some of the best Tex Mex around.
Excellent food and service! First time, but we will go back.
Second time was not the charm of the first time. Two visits in a week, it was like the place took a 180 turn🙁. Service want up to par. Our waiter even had a trainer and the trainer was doing more for us than server. The quality of food wasn’t very good. We ordered faitas for 4/5 and got food for maybe 2-3. We weren’t checked on, our beverages ran dry. So much for a celebratory desert after waiting 37 minutes for wait staff to acknowledge we were done eating I didn’t want to wait for tres leches.
It has slipped in cleanliness since opening. For the price ($$) you have a dozen other options in town at that price point - not to mention many other Tex Mex options.
Always good food every time we go. Most of the time there is a wait even if you make a reservation.
This restaurant is related to The Reel - before we stopped frequenting that restaurant, we encountered similar issues.
In a nutshell, the restaurant is not run very well. The managers are untrained, the staff has no leadership or direction, the details are out-of-whack - for instance there aren’t clean bowls to put chips in.
When we are able to place an order without an issue, the chicken fajitas are the best in town. Unfortunately the gate to access these fajitas is too grueling and we will not return .
Food was good although we waited over an hour for the food. The manager stopped by and we told her we had waited that long, she left and never came back.
Wonderful Mexican food! A delightful place to eat!
Although we went on a Friday, I had hoped we would get the same quality of food as we did on our only other previous visit, which was during the middle of the week, and was for take out. On first visit for take out, I ordered beef fajitas. They were really good, some of the best ever, great flavor, tender, even better than I had hoped for. Rice, tortillas, salsa, chips, all were great.
On our next visit last Friday we dined in. We went at 6:00, hoping to beat some of the crowds and catch them before they were really busy. I know people and establishments have off days, and I was really looking forward to fajitas again and this time it, and the rest of the food, came up way short.
Everything was way over salted, flavor was way off, fajitas looked more like they were cooked in an oven than on open flame. I know this place can do better. That said, service was great and so is the atmosphere.
We'll be back again and hopefully this time when I order fajitas they come out as good as the first time.
Good food, good service. Just a little on the pricey side...
Great food and outdoor patio.
The food is amazing! It’s too bad the service doesn’t match. Never see the same servers when I go there. Maybe that’s a good thing. They must not get any training. Their service is always disinterested at best.
Really like this place. Chips and salsa are excellent. Enchiladas, tacos, flautas all very good. Restaurant is fairly new and quite nice. Very casual. Manager is very attentive and checked on us frequently. We were celebrating a 91st birthday and she made it special.
The food is good and service was fine. The only negative I can say is making reservations does not help the wait time at all. This was our second visit using open table for reservations and both times our wait time was still more than 30 minutes.
Love this place! My only complaint is the noise level, but it just isn’t a negative enough to think twice about going. It’s the food that keeps us coming back. As a vegetarian, the Spinach Enchiladas are perfect! Even If I wasn’t, they’d still be one of my “go to” choices. Everyone else loves the fish and any and all of the grilled shrimp dishes. The wait staff are young, polite and know what they’re doing. They definitely put service first. Our last waiter, Calvin, was on top of everything and so polite! His mama taught him well.
Justice took phenomenal care of us. She was attentive without being overbearing. Everything was delivered as ordered. Thank you to the kitchen and bar staff as well for the prompt service. I LOVE Dos Rios. I tell everyone about how good it is. I only wish you were open a little later and that you had a loaded white queso dip as an appetizer. Other than that, keep up the good work & I'll be back again soon!
Very tasty food, excellent friendly service, great variety of choices on the menu. Our reserved table was ready for us when we arrived 10 minutes early.
The management might considered adding a green sauce to complement the red sauce( a little spicy) with the great chips to begin the meal
The food is good but overpriced for what you get.
Best experience!!!! Worth the time and money!! The margaritas were on point, and seriously best fajitas!!!
My wife and I had margaritas and the appetizer platter. Both were excellent. I server was very helpful and cordial. We really enjoyed ourselves.
We have visited Dos Rios on numerous occasions, but this visit has done me in.
To keep from waiting for a table (the place is always busy), we chose to use open table and reserve a spot for the 4 of us. We got there within 5 minutes of our reservation and was told that even though there were many ahead of us, we would move to the front of the line since we had a reservation. Not true. We didn't get seated for almost 20 minutes with several folks going ahead of us. It wasn't until I went up and asked about the numerous empty tables did we finally get seated.
Just frustrating to use a reservation system only to be caught up in the craziness of a busy restaurant who hires what appears to be teenagers too interested in their cell phones and gossip to keep the customer traffic flowing. Lots of other Mexican restaurants in our area to go to.
Despite having my reservation confirmed through opentable, the restaurant had no record of it. Fortunately a table was available so no harm.
Besides that glitch, overall very good food and service.
