Dos Perros offers fresh and truly authentic Mexican cuisine, an extensive beer list, and carefully chosen wines. Our house-made aguas frescas (horchata, hibiscus, and more) are delicious by themselves or in several of our innovative cocktails. And we serve it all in a warm but upscale environment.
And for groups of up to 50, we offer a warm, cozy, downstairs private dining room, perfect for private parties. Our 60" high-definition flat screen adds to the possibilities; think business meetings or presentations, movie night, or that big game.
Ideally located, we are downtown, just a couple-minute walk from the Durham Performing Arts Center, making us a popular pre- or post-performance restaurant destination.
Dos Perros Restaurant. A Mexican Place in the Heart of Downtown
The service was awesome. The noise level was very high, but I do understand it’s a group oriented place. I enjoyed the trout dish.
Manager was really nice and server was great. Food got there hot and promptly.
Excellent service. Great variety on the menu. Wonderful food.
Always love Dos Perros. We were 10 and service was outstanding. Unfortunately, however, I was disappointed in my main course. I found the salmon pretty flavorless (didn't ask if it was fresh or frozen and should have.) Kind of thin and dry (even with the salsa). But all in all, a good experience.
Hello! We source the salmon fresh (never frozen) wild-caught, from Antarctica. Prior to that, from Scotland. We do make every attempt to receive our products locally, but we never serve farm-raised seafood. The Salmon Veracruzana was one of our "mildest" dishes, and we've since updated the menu. I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of your experience, and we look forward to seeing you again! P.S. Try the "Camarones al Ajillo" next time - it is so (zesty and wonderful!)
As a vegan, I love to go Dos Perros for special occasions, they always have a my flautas (outstanding). It's a little far from me, but it's great for get togethers with friends.
The food was absolutely sub-par. The menu looks great and inventive, but they just don't deliver on quality. Bummer. Drinks were pretty good.
We were a group of 5 and had a nice table that was big enough for our group. Noise level was moderate and we could converse easily. It was busy and service was a little slow; but our waiter was very attentive and clearly was doing his best. Food and drink were very good and I will definitely return and recommend the restaurant to friends.
Food was good but was a bit upset with the serving sizes for how much they cost. Cocktail list was also pricey but they were very good.
We ordered the Enchiladas de Pato (duck enchiladas). We had high hopes as it sounds interesting, but was, instead, bland. They did not stand out. Also, the part of the enchilada touching the pan was so hard that it could not be cut through. I enjoyed the atmosphere and they had good, unique drinks, but doubt I'll return as the food was average at best.
We didn't like the salsa served with the chips. It was oddly sweet. Then our starter, the gorditas, had very dry meat on top. My chile relleno was very good but I'd prefer beans over a bean puree. The carne asada tacos fell apart and should've had two tortillas like most tacos do. The rice and beans served with the tacos were very bland. Our waitress was great and friendly. There was almost no one in the restaurant on the night of a show at DPAC yet it's just a few blocks away.
1. Out of limes....really?
2. Cannot order a certain appetizer because it was also on the Triangle Week menu which we did not bother to order because there was no special going on with that menu.
After finally getting a waitress, it took 20 full minutes for our drinks. Then the food came and one of the entrees was burned so badly you could not cut through it. The waitress said the manager would try to cook something quickly but we did not have time to wait due to a ticketed event. (We were there 2 hours before said event). So my friend got a free piece of pie.
They should have covered his Mexican lime-less beer in my opinion.
I had been there before a few times but this sealed the deal for me. Good luck to future diners there
Guacamole order was mixed up and then delayed. We had a show at dpac and had dinner at 6:15 with show at 8. Found ourselves racing Bc serving took so long
Had to redo food orders and even our checks.
Went before a show At DPAC. The food, drinks and service were perfect.
We loved the specials that we tried - the pineapple and red cabbage salad and the plantain cream soup. Both were unique and delightful. Entrees were also yummy, service was perfect and got us out in time for the show at DPAC. Altogether a great dinner. Looking forward to going back!
Dos Perros is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. Great drinks and fresh guacamole and chips! The portions are small (FYI).
Server was pleasant enough but completely disconnected and disinterested. I wanted to buy her a personality.
Unprofessional staff. Waited a long time for waitress to take drink orders. And, what kind of Mexican restaurant doesn’t have cheese dip?! Ended up at the pizza place next door, and it was absolutely amazing!!
Just too expensive for what you get - I'd say 20% too high. Good food and service. So many good restaurants in the vicinity though to bother coming to this one again.
Dos Perros is a fantastic restaurant. The food is excellent, the service is fantastic, and I can't say enough good things about all my experiences there.
Service was good, but food was not very good.
Dinner before attending White Christmas At DPAC. Food was delivered quickly and it was delicious!!! So very good!!
We had dinner before going to see a show at DPAC.
I would only recommend because of the food. The carpet is odd and messy sometimes when I’m there. Also we had a reservation for 6:30 and they still didn’t seat us until 7 with no hostess available.
I love Dos Perros. I have always had an excellent meal there.
Normally have a great time at Dos Perros, but this time everything was "just okay". The queso had brussel sprouts. I like sprouts, but just didn't go with the cheese. What's wrong with simple?
We wanted guac, but it has the cilantro mixed in. When I ordered my food, he failed to mention the pile of cilantro on top. I was able to pick most of it off, but when a spice tastes like soap.....you still think you taste it.....
Drinks were over iced and pricey for $12-14.
Won't be hurrying back anytime soon, but I will return based on previous visits.
FOLLOW-UP: I've had some back and forth with the restaurant. I cannot say how happy this makes me they are taking the time to listen and not just say "give us another try". I have upgraded my review due to the additional customer service.
Hello! Unfortunately, we can't remove cilantro from guacamole, but we can omit pico de gallo garnish on request. The queso appetizer is made from real cheese/cream; brussels sprouts and chorizo are an integral part of the dish. ("Simple" white queso is usually from a can and is not real cheese- eeek!) Cocktails range from $8-$12 with a standard 1.5 oz. liquor pour. Hopefully this helps explain the thought and care we place on our food and drink items. We look forward to seeing you again!
Delicious as usual. Dos Perros does a fine job, with fresh ingredients to produce wonderful meals. We had the shrimp quesadillas and the carnitas burrito. Both were delicious & beautifully plated. The complimentary chips are fresh, crispy and the tomatillo sauce a fine accompaniment. Not a thing wrong with the house made Margaritas either! Excellent stop for dinner before going to a show at DPAC.
Dos Perros is our favorite restaurant prior to attending DPAC events. It is within easy walking distance. The food is always very good and served hot. The service is attentive. The ambiance is a bit noisy. We did have a bit of a problem with our order in that the soup came well after the entree. This has not happened before and I suspect it was a one time issue.
The food was delicious but the experience overall, was terrible.
Our party of 4 arrived in the late afternoon; we were the only ones there. We placed our order and waited quite a while for our dinners to arrive. When they did, 2 of the 4 four orders were not correct. One of the 2 decided to just go with it, the other person decided to send it back and wait for the correct dish. This happened 3 times...they just couldn't get it right.
Water glasses were never refilled, chips ran out and were never refilled, wait staff were very hard to flag down. We were basically ignored.
When the checks were presented, we inquired about a discount for the person who had to wait while they prepared her meal 3 times. We were told that a manager would have to make that decision.
We asked to speak with a manager....3 times in 40 minutes. No one ever came to the table.
We were headed to a show at DPAC and had to leave so the rest of us paid our bill and on the way out we handed the 4th unpaid check to the server and informed her that it would not be paid. She explained that the manager was too busy to talk with us.
I have to say, this is the worst service I have ever encountered. It's too bad because the food is delicious but we were really treated badly. Needless to say, we won't ever go back.
We really enjoyed this unique Mexican food. My margarita was excellent, and the food was really delicious. I highly recommend a reservation for weekend night.
Food and service were both wonderful. Would definitely recommend.
Burritos, tacos w. choice of fillings, especially the sautéed shrimp featured the night we were there, were all a huge success. Margarita specials delicious. Service was knowledgable and friendly. We love Dos Perros and return often.
This was our second time at Dos Perros, we actually liked it the first time we were there, we thought the food was original and different from most “Mexican “ restaurant. The second time we didn’t like it that much, the food was bland, service was slow , the margaritas were tasteless and hardly had any tequila. We will not go back again!
Food is better than typical Tex-Mex, but not all that good. Food and drinks are overpriced and menu is limited. There is a much better choice for Mexican food and atmosphere only a few blocks away.
Wish I could say better, but was pretty let down. Took my parents from out of town before a DPAC show and we weren’t impressed. The food was either too bland, or way too spicy. The chef seemed too offended to do anything special request, like even serve regular queso. For high priced Mexican, didn’t like our food much.
Presentation was nice, my dish was so spicy with mole sauce I couldn’t taste the chicken, cheese or any other part. Won’t be back.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great food!
Very good food and drinks. Would go agian and recommend
Our server jarrin was amazing, suggeted a wine to my man. The brussle sprouts queso was delicious, and so were my tacos. Oh The banana tres leches was to die for.
Dos Perros continues to impress us with great food, terrific service and wonderful ambiance. They’ve truly embraced vegan options and we’ve been delighted with the variety of high quality latin foods prepared by their excellent chef. Mary is an amazing manager and always makes our dining experience a memorable experience!
