About Dos Perros
We're unlike anything else in the Triangle.
Dos Perros offers fresh and truly authentic Mexican cuisine, an extensive beer list, and carefully chosen wines. Our house-made aguas frescas (horchata, hibiscus, and more) are delicious by themselves or in several of our innovative cocktails. And we serve it all in a warm but upscale environment.
And for groups of up to 50, we offer a warm, cozy, downstairs private dining room, perfect for private parties. Our 60" high-definition flat screen adds to the possibilities; think business meetings or presentations, movie night, or that big game.
Ideally located, we are downtown, just a couple-minute walk from the Durham Performing Arts Center, making us a popular pre- or post-performance restaurant destination.

Dos Perros Ratings and Reviews
I was so looking forward to eating at this restaurant. We attempted to go on several occasions but it was too busy to get in. So we were excited that we had a reservation and we were able to get in on a busy Saturday night (DPAC Show).
Essentially that’s where the problem started. We had a reservation, we were on time for our reservation, yet multiple parties who came in after we arrived were seated ahead of us. We were told multiple times that we will be the next party seated, yet on multiple occasions more walk ins came and got a table before us.
As a black couple often you can go towards a negative angle (racism), not sure if this was case (I really hope it was not), but it did seem illogical that we got passed over on several occasions.
We were eventually seated in the basement and when we got down there there were multiple tables open which made us wonder why we had to wait so long. The maître d’ then told us on multiple occasions he was sorry for the delay, which seemed unauthentic and lacked compassion. We then thought he made a nice gesture to make up for the delay when a bowl of guacamole arrived at our table. Sadly within 30 seconds the waiter came back and grab it and let us know that it was for a different table. Strike two.
Finally, our food came to the table and though it was clean and healthy with quality ingredients it was bland and not that exciting. For the prices of the meal and the quality of the service this place is overrated.
We have been to many quality Mexican and Latin upscale establishments in multiple cities. For me this was one of the poorer culinary experiences.
I would not suggest this place for anyone for dinner. My wife and I discussed on the way out that it may be an OK place for lunch with co-workers.
Two thumbs down!
We were looking forward to dining here. We've been before but it was several years ago and we were hoping it was as good as we'd remembered. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a disappointment. The four of us found the margaritas (two of us had the "Classic" and the other two the "Ginger") to be rather weak with so much ice that it was difficult to taste the drinks. For our entrees, three had the Costilla de Res en Mole Rojo and the fourth the Pollo con Mole Enchiladas. The beef in the former dish was rather dry and the red chile mole sauce bland and not at all spicy. The mole on the Enchiladas was also rather bland and lacked the complexity the diner has come to expect from a mole sauce. The chicken in the enchiladas was also rather dry. Thank goodness we still had the excellent salsa that came with the chips - we liberally used it to flavor our entrees. The service was the best part of the meal (even if the waiter had to be reminded to get our second round of beverages). We will not be returning any time soon.
The food was delicious. Hot Guava margarita and Gorditas are 👌🏼. Jeff was a great server and the staff was accommodating to last-minute reservation changes (confession: the Duke game went in to overtime so we had to push our res a little later). We had a great time. Thank you!
The food was very good, the wine excellent, and the serving team was flawless, even in the midst of apparent chaos. The lovely young lady whose name I can't recall was adorable. Prices are a bit steep, but not out of line these days.
That being said, Dos Perros on a Friday night before a Lewis Black concert is not the place for quiet conversation. In my many decades of dining out on multiple continents, I can conclusively report that this was the LOUDEST room I have ever eaten in.
The owner was charming and chatted with us as we were leaving. I think I would highly recommend this little place, but only if you can make it on a weekday.
Chose for a casual meal before a theater performance. Service was very friendly and efficient. Nice cocktail selection. Food was well prepared and generous portions. Had the Special: Swordfish, which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Large open dining room gets noisy when busy and tables close to the open kitchen window can have an added distraction.
Be sure you confirm your OpenTable reservaton directly with Don Perro's. I booked with OpenTable online and when we arrived we found they did not have our reservation . We were able to get seats at the bar. My wife really enjoyed her swordfish. I had the chicken enchiladas and the mole sauce was a bit sweet for my taste. Guacamole was excellent!
Great place for a nice meal! Started with drinks and guac - both were delicious. We got enchiladas to the salmon and everything was scrumptious! We sat near the bar so we weren't expecting good service, but the bartender always showed up when we needed her! I'd def recommend thus place!
Service staff was very good. Good choice of cocktails. But food was passable at best. I had the swordfish and it was overcooked and smothered with sauces making the nature of the fish almost indistinguishable. We will be back and continue to recommend but take a break from this restaurant as a pre-theater option for a while.
We have been going to Dos Perros since it opened for special occasions and last minute dinners out. The food has consistently been excellent. Sunday evenings and taco night has been a fun change of pace from the regular menu. The carne asada at our recent visit was disappointing. They were tough and chewy. Other taco options were good but the tortillas arrived barely warm. Hopefully, they were just having a rough night - the computers were down and we experienced a power outage during the meal! We will give it another go.
As vegetarians, we sometimes find it difficult to dine out and have multiple options for dinner. I am a member of a couple of local vegan Facebook groups and Dos Perros tends to be on the list of places that have vegan/vegetarian options in Durham. Since we were eating at 5pm, the place was pretty empty and therefore nice and quiet. I can't speak to what the atmosphere is later in their dinner service, but the waiter was very attentive and the wait for our food was short. There aren't many places that have a vegetarian special, but Dos Perros did that night. The food was good and the prices was reasonable. I would definitely recommend Dos Perros to friends.
We went to Dos Perros with a decent size group (10) with a reservation. Ordering was simple. Drinks came on time, appetizers were there quick, but (1) entree was late by (5 min). From what we could tell, someone screwed up and the order wasn't made.
That said, the food was great, drinks were refilled when they should be or before. Nothing bad right up until we were about to leave and then the waiter completely dropped the ball.
Tickets were not even close to correct. After 10 minutes of trying to figure things out, he comes back with a pad of paper to take all of our orders again. 10 minutes later he comes back and 4 tickets are still wrong. 5 minutes later he comes back and they are still not right but in our favor so we just pay and bail.
Honestly I think this was a fluke because several of our party had been there before and had great experiences. I'd definitely go again.
We've always enjoyed Dos Perros but had not gone for a meal in the past year or so - probably because there are so many great choices in Durham. Service was great, waiter was knowledgable and attentive, and the food was delicious. It reminded me why we like the place so much. I had a '67 Cadillac Margarita and Pollo Verde - both were top-notch.
