The new restaurant, Dorrego’s, is named for the famed Plaza Dorrego, a public square located in the historic San Telmo neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Plaza Dorrego is filled with cafes, bars and pubs, and is a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
Hotel Valencia Riverwalk’s Executive Chef, Anthony Mesa draws his inspiration from the rich culinary heritage of Argentina. An extensive wine list will be a focal point for diners. The restaurant’s décor reflects the Spanish Colonial design and architectural heritage of Argentina, with a touch of Parisian bistro panache. Dorrego’s also features a new restaurant bar, and the welcoming space is ideal for gathering and lingering.
Dorrego’s appealing terrace features additional seating topped with comfortable Spanish/Mediterranean-style cushions. The terrace features numerous planter pots, which blend the space into its tranquil River Walk setting.

The staff was wonderful, but the food was awful. We aren't picky eaters, but we sent everything back and didn't re-order. Octopus like shoe leather and served with nearly raw potatoes. The Parrillada meat that came out was not on a sizzling plate and was dry as a bone, and you could break your teeth on the chorizo in the brussels sprouts. The au gratin potatoes were also undercooked. Avoid this place at all costs.
Our dinner reservations were on Christmas Eve 2017. This restaurant is new inside the hotel, having been formerly called Citrus with a completely different menu prior to a recent hotel renovation within the last year. Dorrego‘s is themed Argentinian and the food was very good. Given that Argentines love their meat, we were expecting the menu to be heavily meat based, but to our pleasant surprise it was a well-balanced menu. We ordered a bottle of champagne and the manager came out and did the presentation. They also accommodated me with some gluten free bread. Our food order did take an unusually long time and when it did arrive, the duck I ordered was cold. I did send it back to be reheated and when it was delivered the second time, it was still cold. The server handled the situation very well offering to have my plate remade, but considering how long it took to get our food, I felt like that would be a complete interruption to the flow our meal, as my boyfriend would have been eating without me or letting his food get cold in the process of waiting on mine, so I accepted the plate as it was. The manager did come by and inquire offering a complimentary dessert, neither of us were able to oblige being so full. Overall, the food was good (in spite of the duck snafu) as the shrimp dish my boyfriend ordered was good, as were all the sides we ordered, the street corn being the best among them, topped with cotija cheese. The Hotel Valencia is absolutely beautiful and the ambiance of the restaurant was well done.
My wife and I really enjoyed the food. We had a few really good unique cocktails too. I ordered an additional cocktail 1/4 of the way through the meal. By the time we finished the meal (20 minutes after I ordered the cocktail) I was still waiting for the cocktail. After telling the waiter that I no longer wanted the cocktail, he and the manager were very apologetic and reasonable. We told them we loved the food but the fact that the 2nd cocktail never showed up was unacceptable. We will come back.
Bread before and during dinner was burnt. First drink choice was unavailable, and the second one (both bottled drinks) took until appetizer to get. Bar and dining areas were small and not full to capacity (on a Saturday evening), so the wait was beyond puzzling. Waiter delivered and collected food/drinks as if unsure of how to properly handle. Portions were in between single and family-size so ordering is challenging. Prawn dish was flavorless. Short rib ravioli was over cooked/dried out and tasted like sausage. Asparagus tasted as if Twang had been sprinkled on after. Disappointing cuisine experience for what should have been finer dining.
The food was okay but not worth the cost. Wine was very over priced. For what we paid for dinner for 4, I expect much better food and service than we experienced. We won't go back and I won't recommend this restaurant to others.
My friend and I tried Dorrego's before seeing a musical at the Majestic Theater, just a half-block away. Overall, the food was inventive and pretty good, but not memorable. The Branzino was a whole fish with delicious seasoning sliced in half (with very few bones) that was easily enough for two. The hearts of palm salad, asparagus, and baked potato side dishes were fairly pedestrian, but the grilled street corn was fabulous. When we had questions about wine choices, our waiter very graciously brought out samples for us to try. The decor is tasteful and the atmosphere was thankfully on the quiet side, which is great for conversation. It was a bit too warm to dine outside, but the outdoor patio looked divine.
Enjoyed the restaurant very much. We dined on the patio which was pleasant and had pretty views. The food was delicious. The prawns were nicely done and tasty. The short rib ravioli is interesting and heavy and delicious all at the same time. We didn't care for the potato sides. It would have been nice to have a few more side options that were not so starchy. The waiter was polite - seemed new and nervous- and not as outgoing as we'd have liked. Overall I would recommend. I will be going back again.
The staff were very professional and attentive. We took advantage of the $35 restaurant week menu. We ordered two drinks Nostalgia (whiskey cocktail ) and My wife had the mango habanero gin cocktail both were excellent. The salad was very good, my had Shrimp and Grits and I had wyhgu steak kabob. The dessert for me rice pudding brûlée and My wife house made sorbet. All of the courses were superb. This was our first time and will not be our last. It was a delightful experience.
Beautiful restaurant inside and on the patio. Too far above the river to receive decent breeze in summer. Pidgeons are brazen and annoying. Menu is limited. I had the short rib ravioli. It was decent but on the bland side...way too much sauce. Food is beautifully presented and wait staff is stellar.
Had a great anniversary dinner with our 8 year old in tow. Food was delicious and we had great service up until someone forgot to put in the desert order. Thankfully we were staying at the hotel so I could take our restless kid back while my husband waited 30 minutes for the desert. It was yummy too, but very small portions for that long of a wait.
Honestly, one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I believe we might have been Michael's first table he's ever waited on. He didn't have any knowledge of the menu. I expected to be wowed and you guys missed the mark.
I ordered the ravioli dish and it appeared to be smothered in a watery tomato sauce to cover the fact that they were not holding together. Thumbs down on appearance, concept, and most of all flavor. The potato wedges were bulky and way over cooked.
The fried chicken breast was tasty. As was the grilled chicken salad.
For what you are trying to accomplish, you need a trained wait staff because we knew exactly what we were getting as soon as he stepped to the table. He was a polite kid who was in over his head!
The new decor and remodel is beautiful. Great job overall with the space. It seems like they may still be working on service. There were two waiters for 6 tables, so not overly busy, but our waiter seemed frazzled and forgetful. He did not check on the meal, did not refill waters and forgot to bring condiments when asked. We had the grilled meat platter, which was average, nothing that would bring me back. Perhaps some of the other menu items would have been better. In summary, I miss Citrus.
Always a great experience at Citrus, but unfortunately, we arrived on the evening of the river parade and lighting. Valet parking was not validated, which while only $7, was quite annoying when one considers the difficulty of even getting to the restaurant on that evening. If you can manage to valet on most other evenings, Citrus is a great venue.
Wanted to sit outside as it is highlighted as a fantastic river walk restaurant. Outside was closed for a private event...no signs, no mentions till we had invested money to take a uber there. Perfect....seating is not private, in any way. Almost on top of other guests. Compare to seating at a buffet. Open and super close. Good looked and sounded amazing. Wine was marked up 400-500%. Frogs Prince Cab $13 a glass. Yea right.
The entrees were delicious but the salads left a lot to be desired. We were celebrating a special birthday at the restaurant and were seated in a separate room. The solo room was great, except the speaker didn't work so at times, it was painfully quiet. Also, knowing our occasion and for the high bill we paid, we sure didn't feel special....not so much as a slice of cake with a candle for the birthday boy. Again, main courses were awesome but the rest of the experience left us underwhelmed.
This restaurant used to be one to rave about back in it's beginning days, although the nostalgia was the only thing I was feeling this evening. The restaurant was dead at 8:30 on a Friday night. The lobster flautas were good but tiny. The eggplant, kale dish was palatable but because I cant eat pasta we missed out on the kale part. There were a group of miltary guys sitting next to us, with a case of beer ,their own food spread out and then started dancing around their table as they blared music from one of their phones. It was disturbing as they were obviously not guests of Citrus. Also I am not Thomas McDermott. Not sure how my account got mixed up with his.
I have been to Citrus' restaurant week before and had a good experience, but this time was disappointing. The service was good, but over half of the items ordered from the pre fixe menu were poorly executed. The duck was overcooked on both orders, the citrus salad was nothing special, and the desserts were dense and dry. I would be hesitant to return.
I friend and I went for their special restaurant week menu. The appetizers were good, but the entree and desserts were sub-par. One ordered the duck and the other miso halibut. The duck's skin was far from crispy and the rice had no flavor; the halibut was a bit of a burn on the sear and everything was incredibly salty--not just miso salty. Lastly the dessert tasted like it had been sitting all day. I'm glad it was the special menu price, otherwise we would have sent everything back to the kitchen.
