The Texas Gulf Prawns were nothing more than medium shrimp. There was not a taste of garlic or saffron to be found on this under seasoned tasteless entree. I've had better flavor of fire roasted tomatoes out of a can. The Smoked Quail had a nice smoky flavor that was over powered by the excessive fennel. Pomegranate gastrique? Really?
Service was superb! Managers even worked hard to assure our occasion was celebrated ideally. Food was outstanding. Atmosphere was nice. But it was just too loud once the restaurant was more than half full. We couldn’t hear each other, we couldn’t hear the server and he couldn’t hear us.
Fix that, and this place will be Five Star!
Great decor. Good breakfast. Staff was not quite ready for the crowd.
It was honestly a horrible experience, the staff were rude, didn’t seat us for an hour after our reservation and once we were seated, we were ignored for another hour before ordering drinks or anything. Once we ordered our food it took 2+ hours for food. Waiters are apologetic but managerial staff was horrible to deal with.
My friend & I both had the specials—beef & redfish. They were very good & i have never seen a presentation of fish like that—i did t think to take a picture, but for once should have! My mixed drink was also very good. As per other reviews, the staff were very nice & pleasant, but most certainly seemed young & inexperienced.
The lunch menu is delicious!
First visit and the food was not very good. Sat a group of about 30 next to us and we could not here ourselves talk to each other. Very disappointed in both the service and the food
This was our dinner prior to going to theater. We always pick a fine dining restaurant prior to going to theater. This was a disappointment since it was recommended by the Majestic Theater in our Season tickets. The Service was good. The entrees were too bland we had short rib ravioli, prawns and the chicken. The Chicken was very good. the other dishes were bland and had too much sauce. The Churro dessert was ok. We wont be returning.
We enjoyed the Argentine Parrillada, as well as the street corn and potatoes au gratin. All of it was plentiful and delicious. The bread was also great. I had wine and my date had a vodka martini. We enjoyed everything. This was a quiet respite from the business that was St. Patrick's Day on the San Antonio River.
First, their ribeye steak is probably the best I ever had in a restaurant, and the salads (we have 1 Caesar and 1 Palm Salad) were fresh and delicious. The fish with an orange marmalade seasoning was unusual and very good. The gouda sauce on the au gratin potatoes was wonderful, but the potatoes were way under-cooked (the reason for the "very good" for the food rather than "excellent"). The restaurant was very quiet so it was easy to have a conversation without having to shout, and that was extremely nice. About the service: A suggestion to Dorrego's management -- if it is a server's first night, let the customer know. We found out after the meal that this was the case. Had the manager brought her to the table, introduced her, and explained the situation (something we have experienced at other restaurants), it would have made our evening much more pleasant and would have eased tensions on both sides of the table. We will definitely go back, but we hope to see improvements in these areas.
Great food, below average service
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Valencia for Valentine’s Day. Which was superb. We selected Dorrego’s and they did not disappoint. Every course was a true pleaser. We started with the Shrimp and Grits appetizer that was seasoned perfectly. We both took a chance on the soup and were both nervous of having scallops in the soup. It was simply delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked and paired well with some delicious oven roasted potatoes and asparagus. The chocolate ganache cake and champaign soak strawberries finished off the evening in style.
We even met a great couple dining next to us which topped off the night.
Located near The Majestic theater. Went there prior to attending play.
Arrived at the restaurant right at 7:30 pm along with at least 3 other parties with the same reservation time. After a short wait we were seated at our table. Food was great, the ambiance of the restaurant was very chill. One thing noted was they only had two servers waiting on table, so it was a gap in between the course. We we’re also at a table near the patio door and the one waiter that was assigned to the patio left table door open every time he stepped out which let a very cold draft in the area where we were seated. When my husband asked him to please shut the door when after him his reply was “I’ll try”. Other than that we enjoyed our meal. Will return.
Our service was slow, the wine was warm, and the meat and fish were all over cooked. I think they had staffing issues the night we were there. Our waiter was friendly and described the various dishes to us. We asked for a table side cooler for our wine and they didn't have any.
Feb 9th, 6:15pm Dinner for 2 was good : Waiter was nice, prompt and knowledgeable. The Octopus was a bit over cooked. The lamb meatballs were great. The Sea-bass was average.
Feb 10th, 10:30am Breakfast for 2 was a disaster: Not crowed (maybe 4 tables being served). Waitress was in disarray, we sat 15 min before taking our beverage order, another 15 mins to bring tea and coffee, and only had enough coffee for half a cup and it was lukewarm, also forgot the water. Took another 20 mins to receive the meal and the other half of coffee and 2 glasses of water, I actually had to locate the manager to receive our meal. The manager offer very little concern (most restaurants would have offered a discount). The food (egg and bacon tacos, fruit tray and oatmeal) was good but not worth the wait.
Dorrego’s has potential but is not worth the prices charged especially considering the service provided.
It is the ideal place to go before a show. You can park your car, eat and walk to the Majestic or the Tobin.
The food is very good and a good value
Very nice argentinian cuisine among many tex-max and tourist-trap restaurants along the Riverwalk. Very good food, great service, comfortable and quiet place.
We enjoyed the Restaurant Week Menu for dinner. Service was excellent, with no water glass left unfilled. Food came out quickly and hot. Hits were the stuffed quail and gnocchi. The "lamburguesa" hamburger was also tasty. Misses were the overdressed salad and squash and ginger soup that had little squash or ginger flavor. The restaurant, recently redecorated and rebranded, should be a hit for the Hotel Valencia. Check out the pre and post theater menus, as this is next to the Majestic and Empire theaters.
The experience felt like the hotel seems obligated to have a restaurant but they are not committed to a quality product. Food was average and supposed to be Argentinian. Service was polite but inexperienced. The bar was where the energy was, not the restaurant.
The staff was wonderful, but the food was awful. We aren't picky eaters, but we sent everything back and didn't re-order. Octopus like shoe leather and served with nearly raw potatoes. The Parrillada meat that came out was not on a sizzling plate and was dry as a bone, and you could break your teeth on the chorizo in the brussels sprouts. The au gratin potatoes were also undercooked. Avoid this place at all costs.
I expected more. Food was ok but nothing special. Salad had no taste. Pasta was gummy and overloaded with sauce. Too many kids around and wasn’t really a good dinner experience. Not bad but nothing to rave about.
Our dinner reservations were on Christmas Eve 2017. This restaurant is new inside the hotel, having been formerly called Citrus with a completely different menu prior to a recent hotel renovation within the last year. Dorrego‘s is themed Argentinian and the food was very good. Given that Argentines love their meat, we were expecting the menu to be heavily meat based, but to our pleasant surprise it was a well-balanced menu. We ordered a bottle of champagne and the manager came out and did the presentation. They also accommodated me with some gluten free bread. Our food order did take an unusually long time and when it did arrive, the duck I ordered was cold. I did send it back to be reheated and when it was delivered the second time, it was still cold. The server handled the situation very well offering to have my plate remade, but considering how long it took to get our food, I felt like that would be a complete interruption to the flow our meal, as my boyfriend would have been eating without me or letting his food get cold in the process of waiting on mine, so I accepted the plate as it was. The manager did come by and inquire offering a complimentary dessert, neither of us were able to oblige being so full. Overall, the food was good (in spite of the duck snafu) as the shrimp dish my boyfriend ordered was good, as were all the sides we ordered, the street corn being the best among them, topped with cotija cheese. The Hotel Valencia is absolutely beautiful and the ambiance of the restaurant was well done.

My wife and I really enjoyed the food. We had a few really good unique cocktails too. I ordered an additional cocktail 1/4 of the way through the meal. By the time we finished the meal (20 minutes after I ordered the cocktail) I was still waiting for the cocktail. After telling the waiter that I no longer wanted the cocktail, he and the manager were very apologetic and reasonable. We told them we loved the food but the fact that the 2nd cocktail never showed up was unacceptable. We will come back.

Bread before and during dinner was burnt. First drink choice was unavailable, and the second one (both bottled drinks) took until appetizer to get. Bar and dining areas were small and not full to capacity (on a Saturday evening), so the wait was beyond puzzling. Waiter delivered and collected food/drinks as if unsure of how to properly handle. Portions were in between single and family-size so ordering is challenging. Prawn dish was flavorless. Short rib ravioli was over cooked/dried out and tasted like sausage. Asparagus tasted as if Twang had been sprinkled on after. Disappointing cuisine experience for what should have been finer dining.
The kitchen was super slow however the waiter tried his best to compensate for it. The food was average and therefore too expensive for was it was. The fillet was good!
We waited 10 minutes for water, ten more for bread. Two waiters thought they were our waiter and appeared to be stoned. The giggled a lot. Food is good. Just a need for a manager.
The Sunday lunch menu is very limited but the food we got was very good as was the service.
The food was okay but not worth the cost. Wine was very over priced. For what we paid for dinner for 4, I expect much better food and service than we experienced. We won't go back and I won't recommend this restaurant to others.

Enjoyed the restaurant very much. We dined on the patio which was pleasant and had pretty views. The food was delicious. The prawns were nicely done and tasty. The short rib ravioli is interesting and heavy and delicious all at the same time. We didn't care for the potato sides. It would have been nice to have a few more side options that were not so starchy. The waiter was polite - seemed new and nervous- and not as outgoing as we'd have liked. Overall I would recommend. I will be going back again.
My friend and I tried Dorrego's before seeing a musical at the Majestic Theater, just a half-block away. Overall, the food was inventive and pretty good, but not memorable. The Branzino was a whole fish with delicious seasoning sliced in half (with very few bones) that was easily enough for two. The hearts of palm salad, asparagus, and baked potato side dishes were fairly pedestrian, but the grilled street corn was fabulous. When we had questions about wine choices, our waiter very graciously brought out samples for us to try. The decor is tasteful and the atmosphere was thankfully on the quiet side, which is great for conversation. It was a bit too warm to dine outside, but the outdoor patio looked divine.
Very enjoyable. Service wonderful! Good meal. However, limited menu. Fantastic restaurant for pre-Majestic Theatre. So convenient.

Just ok. Service tried really hard but it lacks in everything to be a great meal. Food is ok, selection is underwhelming, ambiance is nice. Noting more.
The staff were very professional and attentive. We took advantage of the $35 restaurant week menu. We ordered two drinks Nostalgia (whiskey cocktail ) and My wife had the mango habanero gin cocktail both were excellent. The salad was very good, my had Shrimp and Grits and I had wyhgu steak kabob. The dessert for me rice pudding brûlée and My wife house made sorbet. All of the courses were superb. This was our first time and will not be our last. It was a delightful experience.
