Doppio Zero - Mountain View
The atmosphere is very lively (loud) and the wait staff is very attentive, however the food is only average. We both had the spinach salad, which was good, but had way too much dressing on it. We shared a pizza (Salsiccia). There was hardly any sausage on it, almost no peppers and very little mozzarella. We're used to thin crust pizza, but it felt like all we had was crust, a little sauce and olives. We had decaf coffee with dessert. The dessert was good, the coffee was terrible. They give you an Americano if you order decaf and it's hard to tell it's coffee. We were disappointed with the entire meal.
It was way too loud.
The food was underwhelming. Calamari had no flavor. The mushy eggplant parmigiana was covered in what tasted like canned tomato sauce. Was there cheese in it? The pizza was ok, but not great. Go to Terun in Palo Alto instead.
Food was OK, pizza was good. Service left a lot to be desired and hostess was somewhat unpleasant
It was WAY too loud inside. There was only two of us and we had to yell to hear one another. Now it was a Friday night and they were busy, so that was part of it. The music they were playing was really loud - even the wait staff was struggling to hear us when we ordered. Considering how busy is was, the music volume didn't make sense. We skipped dessert because of the noise level and the fact we could not talk to one another. Next time, I will request to eat outside.
We had a great time at Doppio Zero! Food was exquisite, especially the Napolitana Margherita. :)
We had a nice table outside where it was very quiet. The food never fails. My dining partner had the salmon which was perfectly cooked & tasty. I had a delicious pizza. We each had a delightful glass of wine. The wait staff was just the right amount of attentive & did not rush us at all. You can’t go wrong here.
The waiter kept hurrying us to leave, even though there were many tables available.
Food was pretty good but service was awful at first. We had to flag someone down to ask if we could order. They didn’t seem like they wanted to pay any attention to us until after we ordered.
Took my boss here for dinner when he was in town. Always dependable for a great meal and good wine selection.
A wonderful birthday dinner!
We used to go to Doppio Zero all the time when we lived in Mountain View. Coming from Europe, we missed good Italian food in the Bay, and Doppio Zero comes close to the real thing. While we sat on the patio this time, we’d also recommend sitting at the bar, as the bartenders can mix up some delicious, original cocktails. Food wise, you can’t really go wrong, but definitely order at least one pizza. The crust is thin and crispy, not at all bread-like. If I’d have any critique, it would be that it can get noisy inside, so if that’s not your thing, try to get a table outside.
The meal for 3 were pretty good with two glaring exceptions. The pizza, while tasty had the topping on about 2/3 of the pizza, leaving a large portion of plain dough. The tartufo for dessert
Was described as a core of dark chocolate surrounded by gelato. That core of chocolate was so miniscule that we really only got a small scoop of gelato with a little crunch on top for $9 - very disappointing.
I like the place, but the fact that happy hour is limited to the bar isn't the brightest idea. Whenever the waiters give in and allow us to order from the happy hour menu when we are NOT at the bar, we spend double what we would if they hadn't allowed us to order from the happy hour menu. This last time we went, they were unwilling to bend the rules and we spent $50 among three folks. Last time I went with one person and they bent the rules. We ended up spending $115, and we left very happy. And the first time we went, we went with three people and they bent the rules, and that's why we've been back TWICE. Now, I'll just consider a different place to hang out with friends during happy hour.
The food IS delicious, and I'd consider going during the weekend.
Discovered this place a few weeks ago and I'm claiming it as my pizza spot. I love everything about this place, the location, food, ambiance! I keep coming back for more. Absolutely check it out!
We had a lovely dinner experience on Sunday night. I don’t remember the name of our waitress but she was prompt and friendly, taking care of us attentively throughout the night. Food came out quickly and tasted great, and we had plenty of fresh bread and olive oil/vinegar for the 5 of us while waiting for the entrees.
The only challenge for this location is the volume gets pretty loud when the restaurant is full. Maybe they could add some kind of insulation on the ceiling to make it a little easier to hear each other talk.
Overall, loved eating here and will definitely be back!
Sat outside for an early dinner. Very good experience; service was prompt and food was very good. Would recommend to others.
Our Silver Anniversary dinner. [As usual] the owner/maitre d' made sure we got a good table (asked for and got an outside one). Food was fantastic, service excellent.
We sat outside and really enjoyed the food and “Al Fresco” experience.
I think the food at Doppio Zero is excellent. Their pizza is always outstanding, as are their salads, and we also really enjoyed a pasta special with a boar ragu. My issues with this particular experience were twofold: heat, and loud, thumping music. I have dined at Doppio Zero in Mountain View many times, but this is the first time they were playing loud, bass-heavy dance music. Not only was the music contrary to the general theme/feel of the restaurant, it made it impossible to converse with the friends we were dining with. My second problem was the heat. It was a hot day (not even close to the temps in actual Italy this summer) and they do have a hot pizza oven at work in there, but it was uncomfortably hot, even though I was wearing shorts and short sleeves. Of course, I will keep coming back there for the food, but improvement on music choice/volume and temperature control would allow me to appreciate their excellent food even more.
Definitely a good restaurant to visit. But wouldn’t really recommend it for an official meal as it can get a bit too noisy. I found it hard to hear the conversation at times because of the noise. If it isn’t too hot outside, I’d recommend taking outdoor seating.
The food and service are just lovely and was reasonably priced
The food and service was great. I made the reservation 3 days before and told them to add a special note for dessert but the server did not know anything about it. This was supposed to be a surprise for my friend but I had to ask the server about my request and then he comes to me after talking to the front desk, tells me that they cannot wrote any notes or anything for the dessert. Totally unprofessional, they should have told me about this when I made the reservation.
We had a 6PM reservation on a Thursday evening - was surprised to see how busy the restaurant was so early, several large parties, very active bar scene. Started with two appetizers, the shrimp & calamari - very tasty and served with a light marinara sauce. Second app was the burrata served with eggplant and arugula - very fresh and delicious. We ordered the fried calzone to split as our main entre - the dish was listed as the house specialty. We were a little disappointed, the crust seemed underdone and soggy. The fillings were tasty. On our next visit we'll try one of the pizzas - which looked really good.
I made a reservation via open table, but when I got there the restaurant did not have it
Now I get these emails asking how it was when I didn’t get to go
Good food and great service. Was a bit loud though!
The service was quick once we ordered. Oddly, only one of us ordered pizza. The lasagne eaters and the ravioli eater were both very pleased. My pizza Margherita was authentic if a bit under-salted. As authentic as they obviously strive to be, my pizza was still served sliced. I had thought maybe they’d serve it as the Italians do—unsliced. The restaurant was almost unbearably loud: my companions and I had to lean in and really speak loudly, slowly, and clearly to hear and understand each other. Parking in downtown MV on a Friday night is a disaster at best but I did finally luck out after only ten minutes. Overall: lovely food, attentive staff; I’ll be back, but I’ll ask for salt and an uncut crust. And maybe I’ll bring my earplugs and leave my aging parents at home.
Tried this place for the first time on Friday June 14, dinner for 5 people. Food was excellent--we had the Salmone alla Griglia, Wild Board fettuccini, and the seafood stew (Frutti di Mare?). The three of us all loved our entrees. My cousin and her husband also had the salmon and I don't remember their other dish. (They didn't seem super impressed with their food and didn't say anything positive or negative about it.) My daughter had the limoncello dessert and said it was just okay, but she loved her seafood stew. And the bread was also delicious.
Service was good. Restaurant was full and moderately noisy, but it's downtown Castro Street in Mountain View on a Friday, so I imagine a lot of restaurants were full and noisy. (In fact we tried first to go to Doppio Zero near Cupertino Main Street, but they didn't have any available tables before 9pm.)
We definitely plan to come back to either this location of the one in Cupertino!
I've been here many times and been content with the overall restaurant. Unfortunately we had the head spell this past week where it was over 100 degrees. Unfortunately this restaurant does not have air conditioning so it made it uncomfortable. Not sure what happened with cold water but there was no ice. My pizza was burned on the bottom. I was not about to complain bc I just wanted to be done. The temperature of the room was so warm. I will go back bc it is usually better.
Delicious Neapolitan pizza made by a great pizzaiolo certified by the AVPN. We tried a red and white which were both great. It was over 100 degrees F. in Mountain View, so even with the AC on, it was still warm in the restaurant. I guess a 900 degree oven emits a fair amount of heat :). We went for pizza so did not try any of the other menu items. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Service was very attentive. Wine prices are a high, so we brought our own and paid corkage. We'll be back.
Food is always good
Service was mediocre last time but this time the waitress was very good
We enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend or go back
I had the fried calamari and shrimp small plate, absolutely delicious! The calamari included both rings and tentacles (which i enjoy so much more than the rings), the shrimp were tender and juicy, and the seasoning on these, as well as the vegetables, was just perfect. I saw no reason to use the cocktail sauce, it would have overwhelmed the flavor. My compliments to the chef, I will be back.
Had a lovely meal! I had the octopus, ravioli and tiramisu. All were delicious. I sat outside, so that made it even nicer.
Sat close to the bar, and bar patrons were particularly loud.
Savory and different small bites and yummy pizza flavors. I enjoyed the adult beverages, the kind service, and very welcoming and fun host who greeted us on a busy Friday night. Will absolutely dine here again soon.
Great food; quick and friendly service.
Always good with the best pizza around and excellent service. Our go to pizza restaurant.
Very loud and ok variety, mostly pizza. We were actually unimpressed with the pasta choices. The pizza was decent but expect no sauce on either red or white choices. Eggplant and meatballs are tasty. Wouldn't return due to noise level.
Excellent Italian restaurant.
I keep recommending it to my colleagues and I always get positive feedback.
