Doolittles Woodfire Grill
Ate on the patio, food was great and were immediately seated.
Good food and great service. It was a pleasant atmosphere; low-key music so that you could actually focus on your meal and your company.
Nice outside eating area. Great grilled wings.
Excellent food and excellent service. The waiter was quick to refill our drinks and someone came by to ask if everything was ok.
This is a typical Madison "upscale" restaurant situated in an outbuilding of the East Side Mall (which should tell you something)
Madison restaurants tend to be either chains or "bohemian" or that Wisconsins standard - brew pub. Sure, you could go into the heart of Madison near the Capitol and find better fare - at unworthy prices. Considering the vast majority of choices emphasize portion size over food quality (and this in reflected in the general Wisconsin population size) I suppose this DOES rank as one of the better options.
Overall Doolittles manages to underwhelm in terms of the preparation of the food - mistaking "woodfire grill" to mean cooked at high heat and usually too long. Sauces tend to be oily and vegetables overcooked.
That said, the servers we've had are pleasant - if not attentive.
Not sure why it's so hard to find a good restaurant with decent food and appropriate prices in the state capital city - and home to a huge university - but it is.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
I recommend the scallops and cucumber margaritas. Outstanding service! Will definitely return.
It's a little on the pricey side for lunch but the food and service were excelllent
The food was disappointing. The horseradish mashed potatoes were disgusting. The duck was dry. The calamari was over cooked. The chicken was okay and the walleye fingers decent.
the waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The bartender was less attentive and would stand in the middle of the bar and ask if we wanted another drink we could barely hear her.
We celebrated our anniversary here recently. It was everything we were looking for: Reasonably priced meal, a good variety of food and a nice bar. We are from out of town, but would go there again if we were back in Madison area.
Everything was beyond expectations. The food was awesome, the service was excellent and the desert was absolutely delicious! I will definitely be back!!!
We were there early so noise was lower than normal. Service was excellent & food tasty.
We to Doolittles for the second time yesterday and we're very happy with the decision. Great that they have a gluten free menu! Host was very nice and our server was knowledgeable, polite, and very timely. I would definitely go back.
Fabulous. First time in a Doolittle's and not the last. Greeted at the door and treated like a VIP.
Exceptional service by friendly staff.
Pleasant atmosphere that allowed a conversation to take place.
This place is OK. I started with Italian sausage soup and was surprised to find it was underseasoned. Moved on to the "smoked" hangar steak as an entree. Not sure what was smoked about it because there was nothing in the taste to convey that. And it too was underseasoned. The horseradish mashed potatoes were fine. The braised spinach was actually pretty good, but it's perhaps not a sign of a great meal when the highlight is the vegetable side. Service was very good.
It took a while to get our food but it was well worth the wait. Food was hot and delicious!
Met family at Doolittles and we were really impressed. The food was super fresh. Their specialty rotisserie chicken was served on my Pear and Walnut Salad- that was really good! I have several food sensitivities and the server did a great job of suggesting items that would work for me. The food was beautifully plated and served. The server also made a point of helping our grandkids select dishes they would like.
I was here only once when it first opened. I wasn’t overly impressed the first time but this experience has changed my mind. The food and service were outstanding and the ambience was really relaxed and quiet. Even with a good crowd it didn’t feel overly loud. The spit roasted chicken was out of this world. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!!
Everything was great except the food service was a tad on the slow side. We had a long wait for our drinks and for our food. Other than that, great. The wait staff was friendly and approachable.
Food was inconsistent—chicken is their specialty and it’s delicious. Ribs were tough and side dishes cold. Service was fine and the ambiance is nice. But given the prices, the food should be stellar
Will give Doolittles another try. It wasn't bad, just not great. Waitress was very friendly. Wish I had ordered something different as the dish as described didn't quite fit with the resulting meal. Had to rescue my drink which was not finished and had been taken from the table without asking me (simple mistake). Nice ambiance.
Great rotisserie chicken! The atmosphere was great and they have a reasonably priced kids menu.
We’ve been twice in two weeks, celebrating our teenage granddaughters’ birthdays. The food was really good, especially the chicken and wild rice soup, and we enjoyed the coziness of the restaurant. We’ll be back again soon.
Received incorrect order. Two of us ordered the same salad and we were both dissatisfied with the dressing
Was our first time at Doolittles so didn't know what to expect. We were there for dinner, and thought there was a nice selection of offerings for various tastes. Nice setting, noise level moderate so could hold conversations without shouting. Service was really great, Matt was out server and was very attentive to our needs. One of the managers also checked on us during our meal.
Great experience, good food and service! Easy to make reservations online
So tasty- a place we can go to for a good middle of the week fix, date night, or even an afternoon out with the (rather particular) parents. Good service, excellent food (especially that spit roasted chicken), and not a speck of snootiness. Can't wait to go back.
This is a favorite place of mine to eat at, anytime, for any occasion with a group or date night. The food is delicious, with the presentation of each entrée looking like it came out of a gourmet magazine!! We especially like that we can get a beautiful meal, yet dress casual and feel comfortable among patrons. Wait staff is super! They attend to every requested need and check back frequently to make sure that your meal is EXACTLY the way you expected it to be. Up until New Year's Eve night, the Scallops were my favorite item to order. On New Year's Eve, I ordered the Salmon, which was out of this world delicious. Can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant, employees and owners!!!
Friendly service, good food. I’d go back. Tasty wood smoke smell greets you as you walk in.
every thing was great except the fried potatos were so burnt they should have never made to table. but waitress and manager took care of problem
The food again was excellent! We split a salad entree and the sea bass. Perfect portions. Yum!
Appears many of the reviews are overrated based on our experience in a party of three.
The grilled chicken and barbecue chicken was very good. The fish tacos were deep fried pieces which were crisp and moist inside. I prefer grilled fish but the fried were tasty. I ordered a Pinot Grigio but they were out so I had to order my second choice beverage.
We had a really good meal - the service was GREAT - very friendly and helpful suggestions on entrée selection
We had a reservation, we were a bit early but were seated immediately (it was busy, but not crowded). Although the service was bit inconsistent in the beginning (the server had a legitimate problem that they dealt with), once the server was able to focus on their tables the rest of meal was very attentive and pleasant. Good food, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. (We were comped an appetizer as a courtesy for the neglect in the beginning, which was very nice of the restaurant management)
We had a salad (corn-avocado ) and a chicken burger. They were both wonderful!
Loved our dinner here. Burgers were flavorful, fish tacos excellent. Rosemary bread was a nice starter, too. I really liked the cozy fireplace, stylish tables, and "reclaimed wood" looking flooring. Booths looked big and cozy as well. Recommend!
Great restaurant, delicious and interesting food choices. Service was excellent.
Booth is a step up to reduce drafts on our feet. Food was delicious and right temperature. Austin was very attentive to our needs.
