Don's Lighthouse Grille Ratings and Reviews
Unusually busy for a Sunday night. Server handled it well, as usual. Overall experience was fine, what we expected, and will certainly go back. Only disappointment was the steak medallions (with shrimp) which were cooked well done and we ordered medium rare.
We often stop at Don’s when we are in the CLE area. Tonight’s service was unusually slow, and we found out the chef thinks baked potatoes are “old school,” so they no longer serve. Instead, not-very-good fries. We will still frequent when we are close, though.
Ate here a couple of years ago and it was great. So I was back in town visiting family and we returned for an equally great meal.
We enjoyed callimari with swordfish and grilled tuna entrees and they were terrific.
Drink prices are very reasonable and they have a very good wine list which is also reasonably priced.
One of our all-time favorite restaurants. We drive over from the east side quite often to enjoy the ambience, good service and excellent food. Restaurant week offered very good choices also. Extremely comfortable place that I have enjoyed for years and am glad it has not changed.
Once our server realized we were ordering from the "independent restaurant week " menu he became diss engaged. Food was good and came out without delay, but server was uninterested in us. Really, I probably over tipped him.
Other than that, it was good, we'll be back.
Nice place to meet for a conversational dinner. Food was good. Service here is a slower-paced, and they were very busy. But that was perfect for us as we were catching up with friends. Enjoyed the slower pace of the evening. Thankful that the tv was in the bar area and there was no music blaring as we tried to converse. Thank you! We will definitely return.
We went for the Cleveland Independents Restaurant Week. The menu provided a good number of choices compared to some of the other participating restaurants. The food was good, but not outstanding. The dessert was the biggest disappointment. I ordered ice cream. It was partially melted in a white bowl (vanilla ice cream) with no garnish whatsoever. My companions ordered the chocolate mousse (I do not like chocolate) and it had a single strawberry slice as a garnish. When we arrived it was very crowded and as we left the noise level was down due to many people leaving. The service was OK, very slow, but it was very busy so the servers were working hard. If we we not with friends that we wanted to catch up with, we might have been upset with the wait time. I had Salmon and it was a bit over cooked, but still OK. So overall it was good, but not great. There are so many restaurants in Cleveland to try, so we will try others before going back to Don's Lighthouse.
We had a wonderful dinner and took advantage of Cleveland restaurant week. Many of us had the 3 course meal an all cooked well. The teaks were done appropriately and were delicious. The crab cakes had just the right amount of spice. Loved the champagne sorbet.
Our waitress was very nice. There was a bit of a lag between courses but it leant itself to a very enjoyable evening.
We had not been to Don's Lighthouse for a few years. We went for Restaurant Week. The PreFix was delicious. The salad, crabcake, beans(done perfectly), and chocolate mousse dessert were all wonderful. The recommended wine was also very good. Service was very good and so was our cozy booth.
Don's has a fantastic menu selection with everything from steaks to seafood and everything in between. The quality of the food was delicious. The server was very attentive and offered great suggestions. This was a romantic date for us and it lived up to the expectations.
We visited Don's Lighthouse for their clambake, the best anywhere - little neck clams, 1 1/4 pound lobster, potatoes and corn. Service is excellent, including cracking the lobster shell for us. Quality wine list and wonderful Manhattans. We will definitely continue dining there.
We have dined at Don's Lighthouse for 40 years!!!...Our latest tradition is the lobster bake. It
has been two years in a row, same family members, same table and same wonderful waitress. The food was incredible and we thank you for this ongoing quality dinners, drinks and great service.....Marilyn
Food was amazing. I ended up taking my mom here for here belated birthday. I got clams and the surf and turf.
The clams were perfect, very tasty. The wine broth was excellent, great for dipping bread! Surf and turf was yummy, came with a demi glacé filet (not a huge fan of the demi, just would have prefered a different sauce) it was very yummy. The lobster was perfect! I could have eaten 3 of them, seasoning was amazing!
Only complaint was we got the creme brûlée for dessert to share. I’m a baker, and I work with a really great pastry chef for a living. The top of the creme brûlée was so over cooked, I couldn’t put my spoon through it at first. The waiter said that’s typically how they send it out, I just think creme brûlée is supposed to be cooked perfectly! Should be able to tap the top of it lightly with a spoon, so it cracks open. It was delicious though, it tasted fine.
Overall a 9.5/10 dining experience. Would go here again in a heartbeat!
It has been many years since we have dined at Don's Lighthouse. Unfortunately, I do not believe we will be returning. The service was slow and mediocre as was the food. Had the steak and lobster - I've had better in my own kitchen. Sorry - In a city with GREAT restaurants, Don's needs to step it up. Very disappointing to spend a special occasion with a less than stellar experience.
