Dons Bogam Black
Bar & lounge seating, fusion cocktails and a menu full of Korean staples are just a few of the accommodations that make DONS BOGAM BLACK a truly unique encounter. The sleek bar invites relaxation as well as offering a dynamic selection of spirits and wines.
Our Korean barbeque is prepared on the special carts specifically designed to eliminate smoke but keep all the flavors. We also carefully select our meat and only serve the best prime beef and Washugyu, a crossbred of Wagyu and Black Angus beef.
You’ll surely enjoy your evening out at DONS BOGAM BLACK.
Some waiters were terrible, somehow they seemed to be frustrated and bad attitude we found.
This restaurant consistently provides wonderful food and attentive service. It is a good venue for friends to gather and enjoy one another’s company.
John was our server and he made our dining experience superb! The cocktails were creative and delicious and the Kobe for two was out of this world!! We will definitely be returning!
My friends and I enjoyed a feast for a luncheon! We began with seafood pancake and glass noodles apps, followed by kalbi bibimbap for one, and shared bulgogi lunch special for two, served with an impressive array of vegetable wraps, choice of stew where we chose seafood tofu stew and a huge container of ssamjang sauce. Everything was delicious! It tweaks up Korean cuisine to a universal higher level. Definitely enjoying lunch there is a better value and an affordable way to try the restaurant.
Food is good
This became one of my faves. Good food & service. There is nothing that I don’t like about. The sparerib noodle soup is to die for!
Service was top notch, as usual. So nice to enjoy everything, the whole dining experience. Well done Don’s management. 수고했읍니다.
We love the original Dons Bogam but we were rather disappointed with this version. The servers were disorganized and were not knowledgeable. The pork belly was over cooked. No one came to ask us how the food was or if we needed anything else. Decor was very sparse and seemed like an afterthought. Just in general not nearly as nice as original restaurant. We wont be back to this one.
Exceptionally good food. Quite noisy but good fun. Really good food and helpful suggestions by the server. Overall a good experience - highly recommended.
Service attempted to be helpful but was mostly clumsy. On three different occasions they delivered food intended for other tables, and it took some effort on our part to explain that to them. But they tried to be helpful.
Food quality is very good, but the fundamental issue I have here is that the restaurant deviates from the very important cultural spirit of Korean food. One of the primary fundamental elements of Korean food is the spirit of generosity, Don's Bogam fails miserably in this area. Paying top dollar is fine, butt offerings would be appreciated and are usually present at nearly every other Korean BBQ establishment in the world. Not single "service" or complimentary item was offered despite a very high bill. This is the equivalent of not getting a single buyback at a bar where you spend a lot of money. Leaves a poor taste in your mouth if you know Korean food and culture at all. It's a pity because the food is good and a cheap free casserole or soup would go a long way without costing them nearly anything.
This is my first time at this Korean establishment. Is definitely the most upscale in the area. The service was okay and the food was seasoned well. I don't know how high quality the meat was for the Bimibap, but overall the meal was good. I may try it again in the future but not in an immediate hurry to
The quality of the food was superb!!! The water was sooo good, I didn't need to order drinks. The service was excellent! Will be back for sure.
Great location; Sometimes the VERY attentive wait staff makes the food taste better :-)
Dons is more elegant than the original. The cuts of meat are superior as well as not frozen. But the panchan and naemyong were good as any in K-town. Plus, the wait staff was superb.
The food and service are terrific. The prices are a tad high, but everything was delicious!
The best Korean bbq in NYC, there’s no exaggeration.
Mundane food and menu. Expensive.
Having been a 15-year customer of the original I went to the new Dons to try and compare. The "Black" Dons seems to be aiming at a more upscale experience. The space is very large and well suited for big groups. Conversely, it can feel a bit empty. Prices are similar, quality is similar.
Great ambience and service. The best quality Korean BBQ in Manhattan
Love the Ssam! So healthy...and high quality beef
The food is very unique and tasty. The cuts of meat are fresh and deliciously seasoned. The servers and service is exceptional and the atmosphere is like no other restaurant in NYC. Keep in mind that there is a limited drink menu due to their use of Soju (Korean Rice liquor) instead of traditional spirits but the drinks are amazing nonetheless. Definitely recommend making a reservation as the place gets busy on peak nights.
Everytime we’re in midtown NYC we make DBB our primary restaurant for Korean cuisine. A favorite, Galbi topped with two fried eggs is a truly tasty delectation.
Best Korean BBQ I’ve ever had. Marinated beef platter is out of this world.
Never disappoints. Always with consistent quality, rich starters and great bbq meat.
Mom’s 80th! It was perfect!
Prompt service, tasty food, good lunch specials.
Delicious BBQ and very open environment. Enjoyable for our group of 7!
Once again exceptional marinated bbq meat, great service. This is not the traditional korean bbq, but is convenient, and gives you the feeling of must come back again.
Excellent, excellent and excellent. Service is outsanding
A little pricey for what it is, and the service could be a little more attentive (sometimes had to ask 3 or 4 times for the same thing, or very hard to find waiters). Otherwise a delicious and fabulous night out!
Food was especially delicious and service was attentive. Bathrooms were unclean, food was slightly overpriced, and restaurant seemed a bit understaffed at times.
Was a business dinner party of 6.
Space is nice, open. Good for a larger party.
Food was good.
Overall a good experience.
Very good meat cooked in modern style Korean BBQ. Whether you are a large group or on a date, perfect setting with super service. Will surely be back soon.
Really excellent meal. Party of 6 at square table in alcove — great for conversation. Beautiful space with amazing food. High quality ingredients. Amazing flavors and good portion sizes. We finished everything across our plates and thoroughly enjoyed. Pork bibimbop was especially good. Kalbi and skirt steak were very good. Octopus and fried dumplings were a nice way to start. Drinks — no hard liquor but soju, wine and beer were all excellent.
Average food with low value vs price. Good as an alternative to the long wait in Korean town for just slightly better food ( slightly cheaper) on 32nd street.
Dons Bogam Black is a wonderful restaurant. The staff is warm and welcoming. The food is amazing, a mix of quality ingredients, skillfully prepared table side and served with delicious sauces, condiments, and garnishes. It is truly Korean Barbecue at its best.
Food quality was great - absolutely delicious with a nice ambiance and attentive service. Had a nice sake selection as well. Thumbs up!
