Donna's - Cross Keys Ratings and Reviews
Very enjoyable. We sat outside which was very nice, although a bit cold, but it was a lot more room than the inside for a Sunday afternoon!! Service was wonderful, and they were very helpful! Coffee was lukewarm, probably my only real complaint, but otherwise, everything met expectations!!
We went for Mother's Day brunch and it was fun--lots of people, good service, enough cooks to make omellettes and pancakes, and the like. Desserts were a bit disappointing and small. Not a great set up for small children as there were few uncomplicated dishes (like pasta or simple (no shrimp, please) mac n cheese).
We've had many good meals at Donna's, but this one wasn't up to par. The food came quickly - almost too quickly though. Appetizers (soups) were excellent. However my meal (Donna's meatloaf) was cool in its interior and I needed to send it back. When thad been reheated, the vegetables and potatoes were almost too hot. Overall disappointing compared to previous meals,
Went for an early Mother's Day celebration since we will be out of town. Food, as always, was delicious and tastefully presented. Service was attentive, but not cloying. Ambiance is adequate, muted lighting, noise level moderate to quiet. Would definitely recommend.
We enjoyed a great Sunday brunch buffet. Each dish we tried was well prepared and so flavorful. There is a broad selection of items for everyone's taste, including Donna's roasted vegetables and wonderful salads. Meat courses that day included duck breast and short rib. Both delicious. Seafood included steamed shrimp and smoked salmon. You can taste the quality ingredients. Desserts were small bites of heaven. Others around us were ordering from the menu, but the $25 brunch was reasonable considering it included a $10 drink.
A good friend and I dined on Easter Sunday for brunch and to celebrate friend's birthday. As always, Donna's does an outstanding job with their brunch buffet but Easter is always extra special at Donna's. The addition of a 2nd omelette station was helpful given the crowd. However, being seated next to the buffet had its drawbacks as everyone in the line bumped my chair while we were dining. Donna's is interior layout doesn't accommodate crowds well but you sort of know that going into it. Our waitress was attentive and the food was consistently good - tasty, imaginative and presented well. My favorite dishes included the roasted lamb, roasted/carmelized brussel sprouts, steamed shrimp and made to order omelettes.
Great venue for a pre BSO concert dinner. We rediscovered Donna's after Petite Louis canceled our last reservation without explanation, and found Donna's a wonderful surprise. We have made it our new regular place for pre concert meals.
Eggplant appetizer was good. Waiter messed up the grilled cheese by forgetting the no bacon request from a vegetarian member of the party. Looks like someone forgot and then just removed it instead of making a fresh one. Not a good experience. They did take it off the check but the damage was done . Other dishes were so so. Left with queasy feeling in stomach.
I'm always happy when I eat at Donna's, which I've been doing for many years. The food is healthy and delicious and I often order extra so that I can bring home a snack. The wait staff is great.
I remember when there were multiple Donna's locations and they were all great looking; now it's just the Cross Keys location and they haven't done anything to update the interior in far too long. The decor borders on shabby. I really wish that Alan and Donna would renovate so that their dining experience was equal to the food and service. Please?
Excellent meal. Had the roast beef, horseradish, and cheddar on brioche bun with the brussel sprout and bacon appetizer. It was fantastic! Our table was a bit small for two people and so much food, and it was super wobbly. But for the food, totally worth it.
