Donna's - Cross Keys Ratings and Reviews
It was a very nice lunch with friends. Parking was plenty and no charge, a big plus.
The food was very good and the service was outstanding. I'm glad I made reservations thru Open Table, lunch hour was very busy and we had limited time.
Donnas exceeded our expectation. We went with 2 families (4 adults, 4 kids). Seating was great. Appetizers were very good - mezzo plate and friend calamari. Kids all got burgers and were very happy. The chicken dishes were good as well and they have an extensive wine/drink menu. All in all good choice.
Everything was delicious! Our server very pleasant. I wish all servers in every restaurant would stop adding "you guys" at the end of every sentence. It's so easy to ask "What can I get you from the bar? " or "Do any of you have any questions?" Instead of saying "What can I get you guys?" etc. you can be plural!
Solid if not amazing. We enjoy the predictability. Always good veggie plate. Always good grilled cheese. Service seemed off, though. Requested napkins but none received. Likewise server seemed to become scarce except when bill was due.
Pleasant atmosphere and tasty, creative food choices. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. The outside dining ambience is a rarity in Baltimore City because many other Baltimore restaurants are closer to city street traffic noise. This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. Donna's Cosima also offers a lovely outside venue.
Our book group meets at Donna's about once a month. We like the food and the noise level is low enough we can carry on a conversation. The last few times we have met we were served by Lindsey and she does a great job. She remembered us, the service was paced just right. She kept us in bread and she is personable. Extra added bonus - we've spotted the author Anne Tyler there, for us book loving folk that is an exciting moment.
We've been going to Donna's for years and appreciate that we can always depend on getting a good healthy meal. Donna's culinary creativity is reflected in the varied and balanced menu . And the well-trained wait staff means that service is friendly and accommodating, adding so much to a pleasant dining experience.
My wife and I met over Sunday brunch with our son, who wanted to discuss some business plans. The atmosphere was friendly yet very good for conversation. The food choices and quality were wonderful (save room for that roast beef...succulent).
The only sour note had to do with their online advertising. For $25, you get the brunch buffet along with "a complimentary mimosa or bloody mary." My wife and I arrived a few minutes early, and asked for a coffee while we waited for our son. When he arrived, we ordered two mimosas and a bloody mary---and the waitress said that the coffee counted as our "free drink" and we'd have to pay for our mimosas, she thought around $8 or $10.
We've been to many buffets, and coffee is usually included. When it's extra, it is stated clearly. We relayed this to our waitress. She sought out the manager on duty, and returned to say, it's okay, "we can do it this time." We took that to mean the coffee was included, until the bill came, when we were charged for three coffees.
Donna's----isn't it better to clearly state the costs on your menus, online and hard copy? The text for the buffet says only "complimentary mimosa or bloody mary"---not in place of coffee, and not coffee as "your fist liquid" or anything.
Early dinner on a Sunday afternoon after the theater. I always want to like this restaurant better than I actually do. Beautiful setting , great for people watching, and ok food. Too much garlic in every dish. Ended up with meatloaf with garlic mash potatoes and zucchini. Meatloaf was good. Had to ask for salt and pepper. This is my pet peeve. Just put the S and P on the table. The diner should not have to ask and wait for it while the food comes.
The food is consistently terrific and the portions are generous. All the staff are accommodating and responsive. Donna hersel is an incredibly lovely, attentive and talented restaurateur with decades of experience and always works to make her customers happy.
Food was prepared and presented well. But overpriced for what it was. Mixed drinks were really good.
Service was friendly and attentive enough. But main course came out immediately after finishing appetizer. That was a timing error.
Narrow space of a dining area. I don't know, but for the price there are way better alternatives.
There were 4 of us we were pre-theatre and in kind of a hurry. The staff was very accommodating and hurried us along. The tuna tartare was a big mistake. It didn't need all the onions and squash to make it interesting. Dressed nicely but way too overthought! The eggplant napoleon was good, very tasty. The goat cheese salad was great and the sweetbreads were delicious. The crabcake was ok, not the best, not the worst. Brioche roll was nice with some nice spicy dressing.
