Set in the heart of downtown Redwood City, Donato Enoteca offers true and honest contemporary Italian cuisine from Executive Chef Donato Scotti that changes weekly determined by the freshest available seasonal produce. Homemade pastas, wood-burning oven pizzas, meat and fish courses are available, executed in an authentic yet modern way. The menu spans every region of Italy and incorporates artisanal products, such as fresh imported burrata, prosciutto, grappa and olive oil. Other in-house specialties include sausages, mostarda and lamb prosciutto. The wine list focuses on smaller-production boutique wineries from Italy, California and France.

The server Oscar was pleasant and attentive until we needed a bill and we had to chase him around the restaurant

The salad was nice but very little dressing and the pizza came out cold

So nice place but I don’t know that I’ll go there again for lunch

We had a very nice meal. Each of the meats in the SALUMI FATTI IN CASA were tasty and unique. The RISO AL SALTO E PUNTARELLE was a great surprise, not too fatty. We had one special of roasted salted pork that was one of the most tender pork dishes we've had. We ended with the RAVIOLI BERGAMASCHI “SCARPINOCC”. Our waiter (Jose) recommended an excellent Sicilian wine (Terre Nere Etna). The meal was very well paced. My partner and I enjoyed the meal until the end of the meal when we overheard one of the bartenders (NOT our waiter) discussing the "maricónes." I told the manager of the incident. After staff use of that one vulgar, offensive word, we will not return to this restaurant.

Octopus appetizer was really good and the Margherita pizza was excellent. My co-workers enjoyed the salad with grilled Shrimp, Carbonara pasta and the schiacciata :-). Great good and very authentic.

Amazing warm welcome. Vincent kindly asked which table we'd prefer. Giuseppe was wonderful. Great wine pairing suggestions. He was RIGHT!! CARBONARA pasta was rich and creamy...DELICIOUS!!
Citrus panda cotta was a perfect match with wine. We'll be back!!

The food is very food , no complain there . Service is a little slow, either one waiter for too many tables, or slow waiter . We are a party of 4, on the menu it printed party of 6 will automatically add service tip/service charge , but we are a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids , and our finally bill slammed with service charge automatically added!! That surprised us , and service charge is added on top of tax. Will I go back ? Not sure . The food is great . If you’re okay with okay-service but good food , and don’t mind the extra charge, then this is a place for you .

Food is ok - we mixed seaafood with meat this time so it was not working out. It took the waiter forever to bring us a basket of bread (we waited till the end of antipasti!) and I literally had to ask 4 times to get the basket refilled for pasta later...

We booked this way in advance for Valentine's Day. I would have appreciated knowing at that time that there would be a special, limited menu as we were looking forward to ordering our favorites (which of course were not on the special menu). The choices offered were fine but safe. We ordered the 3 course option, which we were told had to include dessert. Disappointing because we usually don't order any dessert and would have preferred 2 starter courses each instead of dessert. When dessert came, we got 1 dessert for the two of us. According to the manager and the waiter, the dessert was "doubled" and intended for two. Not that we needed more sweets but it really didn't seem like a dessert for two. And it wasn't explained properly when we ordered. The manager kindly provided complementary coffee drinks to make up for the mis-communication. We appreciated that. Still, in the future, I will avoid this restaurant on a holiday and stick to going there on a "normal" evening.

As always, a wonderful meal at Donato Enoteca. We were lucky with noise level, but it can be like most restaurants these days. To single out one highlight, the veal T-bone was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great wine list.

This place never fails to deliver. Service is great, creative menu perfectly executed, nice wine selections. You can get quiet and romantic seating, as well as busy open space seating, and outdoor, weather permitting. Not much else to say. I would upload some photos, but this site won't take mine. Just go there!

Appetizers were all delicious. We ordered the bruschetta, gamberi, salumi board, and fritto siciliano and everybody loved it all. The bread was to die for!! Great wine selection -- all Italian which I'm not very familiar with so it was really nice that our lovely waitress was able to recommend some excellent wines based on our preferences. Dinner was very good also. A few people ordered the lamb shank and loved it, others ordered the branzino and thought it was excellent, and I ordered the tonnarelli pasta dish which I found to be kind of bland. The sauce needed something to give it more flavor. Dessert was amazing. Overall, a good experience at Donato Enoteca but I wouldn't rush back for dinner.

Have to say...been here many times before and always enjoyed my dinner but was very disappointed last week. Not sure what’s changed or if it was an off night but the food was either too salty, too garlicky or lacking flavor. It was a bummer since we brought another couple with us as the food was always great. Not sure what to think but not sure I’ll go back.

Met a former student before she took off for a semester in Scotland. Food was wonderful as always. Love the buckwheat pasta with mushrooms and their thin-crust pizzas. Coming from a family who are not chocolate lovers, I was delighted to get to share the chocolate cake. Love this restaurant!

We have dined here many times and have always enjoyed it, but so many things fell below our expectations during our most recent visit, that I am not sure we will return. The service was great, so kudos to the wait staff, but sadly everything else was not. Our wine glasses were dirty and sticky. We ordered the arancini appetizer and the center was cold. I had the ravioli and it was tasteless and bland. I wanted to add some salt and pepper for taste, but there was none on the table. My husband ordered the fungi pasta and it was also bland. We had leftovers and did not bother to bring them home. I hope it was just a fluke, as we have enjoyed dining there in the past, but we will not go back anytime soon.

We love Donatos, go there quite often. Love sitting at the chef's counter. However we won't go mid week again. It was like conference night. The private table in the back was full. We were offered this tiny two top against the wall next to a table of 20 something people. The lounge area looked nice, but music was setting up, so we didn't know how loud that would be. We opted for the front room, however here we sat next to a table of 15 men. It was so loud we just finished up quickly and left. We did have reservations. We were just disappointed in the whole experience. Happy they have the business but it ruins it for other diners with so many large groups.
