Donato Enoteca Ratings and Reviews
A busy upbeat restaurant, excellent service and very tasty food (raviolis with 3 kinda of filling, appetizer portion, was very large and filling so share if you are also having an entree), pork loin with wild
Mushrooms also very tasty and plentiful. Nice unusual wine selections (by the glass). Parking is a bit of a challenge. CalTrain station very close however.
We are considered to be frequent visitors at Donato Enoteca. We will order squid ink pasta every time we are there. My kids did not like it couple years ago and now are loving it for no reasons at all. I guess we become foodies. It is quite yummy. Give it a try.
Great meal! It's near the Redwood City Theatre district so would be great for a sit down meal before/after. The menu is a little limited if you have dietary restrictions, you may need to ask for help. But the food was great and the service strong. The wine was also great!
Over the top service and hospitality, beginning at the front desk. The hostess called apologizing that my favorite table ( I requested in reservation) may be slightly delayed as it was occupied. Upon arrival I went to sit comfortably in bar to wait only to be told my table was all ready albeit I had already been served a delicious and refreshing cocktail. The staff is always accommodating . The food freshly, beautifully and deliciously prepared.
One of our favorite go-to places in Redwood City.
The bread board Stuzzichini is amazing, enough for 3.
The Turbante di Branzino e Cavolfiori was a nice treat but, somewhat bland.
The Risotto con Pancia di Maiale with Niman Ranch pork belly is awesome.
Delicious, rich Tiramisu and and very fresh tasting Panna Cotta.
Even the decaf Espresso was full bodied.
Very reasonably priced.
Really wanted to like this restaurant, but it underwhelmed. Nothing really stood out, and didn't feel like inspired cooking. We had the supposed signature dishes: boar bruschetta, and oxtail pasta. Boar bruschetta was nothing special, lots of food though. Oxtail was better, but still not a standout. My wife had the menu which featured a pappardelle, and fowl sugo, again nothing special, and too salty. Dessert was disappointing too, a very dry almond, corn cake. I would recommend Vina Enoteca in Menlo Park instead.
We've had good dinners here before, but this time it was a little meh. The buckwheat pasta was a bit gritty, the flavor wasn't as great as it has been other times, the salad and pizza were uninspired. Convenient for a nicer dinner before a movie, but might look for another option.
Disappointed after many good meals in the past. Service was slow. Food (pizza, ravioli, beef cheeks) was ample in quantity but nowhere near as good as in the past. Manager apologized and took cost of food off bill. We had not requested this, and it was beyond our expectations.
We will certainly try again in the future and hope the quality has returned.
Under the circumstances I do not want to give star ratings. I would not recommend to others until we try again.
Good solid Italian food. Waiter told us different pricing for a special offering that they had (truffle tasting menu - single course) and check in - receptionist was very prickly and didn't honor request to be seated in the back near the TV to watch a sports game. We probably will not be back but it's a popular place and the food is good.
We sat right down (we had reservations), but there were long waing times, to order and when we got our food. I noticed that some (chef) friends came in after us and served well before we were. A vegatable substituion was ,well I'll ask the chef? The food and wine was OK, but over priced.
We were seated immediately, at a quiet table in a room away from the bar. The manager was great with wine recommendations that matched perfectly with the food. Great Italian dishes and an extensive Italian wines list covering a broad range of regions and price points.
Will definitely return AND recommend to friends!
First time at Donato. I made a reservation a couple hours before and when I got to the restaurant I was seated immediately. My boyfriend was parking the car but had no trouble finding me when he came in. The noise level was high but not annoying. Restaurant was full and it seemed like all the guests were enjoying their stay. I love Italian food and this was a great spot for some authentic Italian! We also tried the calamari which is a must! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. Also the service was spot on. Our server was attentive without hovering.
We found this place through open table while we were in the area on vacation. The food was excellent, the service was attentive and the place was lively but we could still talk. My only complaint was their wine list suffers from the same inflation as many fine restaurants, who seem to think that customers won't hesitate to pay more for a bottle of wine than both of their entrees combined. I am a strong believer that wine lists should include a broad variety of price points, but that seems to be less and less common as we dine out.
Wonderful meal, attentive waiter, great wine list, but..... We had a dinner reservation, but ended up being seated in the bar (?) Noisy and crowded. There were empty tables with table cloths in the dining areas and we were in the bar! With the tight tables, big screen TV, and noise.
The food was good, but the menu was a bit limited. I was served a glass of wine that had turned. The color was actually brown (for a rose'). The waiter brought it back and opened a new bottle at our table and poured it. Love the ambience in the restaurant, and location.
