I took my friend here for her birthday. We always celebrate with wine and charcuterie and this place was perfect. We will definitely be returning
We had a quiet table for 6. Service great and the food was excellent.
We took a friend for his birthday. Our only mistake was having appetizers at home. Should have eaten more yummy food at Donato’s!
The lunch was excellent. The ravioli was delicious.
The server was efficient but lacked warmth. The hostess was a bit short with us when we asked to switch tables. We had not sat down yet, we just wanted to sit off to the side, not the middle of the room.
The wooden chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Please add chair pads.
Unfortunately, not as good as it was before. Inattentive waiter and the food was just OK.
Disappointing because we've always liked it here.
Excellent food. We have eaten here a few times when we have been in Redwood City. It never disappoints.
Food with average flavor at higher than average prices. The food used to be better and that was why we made it our go-to Italian restaurant. Now... meh. I had the ossobuco and it was bland. My date had a fish a pizza and it was very average.
I visited for the first time, I'll be visiting for a second time soon.
The food is good but pricey. We enjoyed it but not sure we will return.
Very disappointing . We were seated in the annex which lacked personality, but we could have forgiven that if the service or quality of food was compelling. My chicken was over cooked and tasteless, and 2 of the 3 ordering the veal were underwhelmed. One was very undercooked instead of medium rare, and the other overcooked. The calamari appetizer was reasonably good but not "over the top".
This was our first visit, to celebrate my mother's 94th birthday and I admit I reserved late thru open table,
( perhaps the poor location), but we understand finer dining and this was not it on may levels...service and quality of food were lacking. I think our bill with wine and cocktails exceeded $400 which we would have happily paid if we felt the experience was worth it, but sadly not so on this night at this restaurant.
Just a hidden gem on the mid-Peninsula’s. Terrific menu, excellent wine list and spot on service
The prosciutto was gristly and the tables were far too close together.
Food was upscale and high quality Italian. Best sole I ever have eaten
Excellent food as always. This place never disappoints.
It was my wife’s 35 birthday. Menu needs new pasta dishes.
Great as always and they made our friend spaghetti Bolognese even though it was not on the menu.
Poor food and experience from a previous go to. Such a shame.
We love this place! It’s our go-to for special events and date night.
I loved everything about it! Nice greeting. Friendly abd attelw
We were outside - great in the summer. BUT the street noise can be pretty bad.
Donato Enoteca is a perennial favorite. They got really busy Saturday night and our order got lost in the queue. We asked after it several times and waited over an hour between our appetizer and entree. We had gotten up to walk out when the waiter finally arrived with our (delicious) entrees. The restaurant didn't charge us for the dinner, only the drinks and appetizers. The problem was in the kitchen not with the wait staff.
Proper authentic Italian, don’t waste your time anywhere else....seriously!!! I’ve travelled all the way from Australia and coming from a place that has an Italian restaurant on every corner, I think I have a good idea on what’s good....besides the fact I am of Italian heritage 😉
Had reservation through opentable, however the hostess would not seat us at proper dining table when there were empty tables, even when we requested to change from uncomfortable high table sitting.
Delicious food, friendly and attentive service, nice ambience. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Being a local, and coordinated an event for business here I was really looking forward to my first experience dining at Donato Enoteca. When reservations were made, I noted we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. No mention or acknowledgement was made before, during or after our meal. The server was seemed disinterested in us and did not check on us very often. The food was pretty good - the wild boar ravioli a stand out. I don't think we will make an effort to come back. A rather disappointing experience.
The service was horrible. We waited about ½ hr before our server finally had time to take our order. When the entree arrived, mine was wrong and they have to remake it. My entree never arrived until the rest of my party of 7 were finished with theirs. While I was still eating my entree, my server cleared the rest of the table and even removed my bread plates. He also spilled a glass of water on my guest. Then he proceeded to distribute dessert menu to the rest of my party while I was still finishing my entree.
Since we were sitting in front of the open kitchen, there were just a lot of activities and noise between the servers going in and out of the kitchen.
The food was ok, but with this horrific service, I would not return.
Donato Enoteca is a fabulous restaurant. We have eaten there several times and it never disappoints. They make all of the pasta fresh and have amazing sauces to go with it. We had the squash blossums fried to perfection, the veal T-bone and a hand-rolled pasta with an ox-tail sauce that was wonderful. There is no better restaurant in Redwood City!
Best Italian restaurant in town. Squid ink pasta is a must try. A repeated customer.
You can't go wrong, I wish Open Table had a 4.5 star rating.
Each person in my lunch group of 7 people enjoyed their meal, and they particularly appreciated the excellent service, with staff going the extra mile to accommodate special needs. Donato Enoteca created an outstanding experience for all.
Everything was delicious. I don’t know why we waited so long to try this place.
Our 'go to' spot for good, solid Italian food. Never disappointed.
It was our first time visiting Donato’s and we were very pleased. Christian, our server, was very knowledgeable and attentive. His suggestions from wine to dessert were all on point! Thank you!
We will be back
Excellent service. Our waiter was friendly and attentive.
6 of us went to celebrate my birthday. We had taken many notable wines. One of my friend suggested a tasting menu. I have been going to Donato for almost 7 years but was not aware of the tasting menu option. Donato prepared a tasting menu for the wines we had brought. The pairing was outstanding. The food was excellent, the service impeccable. Five stars.
I would highly recommend Donato Enoteca for special occasion celebration.
Note to Donato - Please advertise that you have tasting menu. It was delicious.
For our anniversary, we chose to go to our trustworthy restaurant and we were not disappointed. Always authentic but creative and tasty.
Wendy, our server was great!
Again: Donato provided a perfect evening. We ate outdoors, and it was a beautiful evening of fine food and conversation. Due the noise level in the front room, I generally request the Back room (The "Library" I call it.) But it was booked for a special event so we tried an outside table. What a good bet!
(Side patio is quieter than the front one, and away from car noise and fumes.
Great food for family and friends, recently took my parents there and they loved the whole experience. A great neighborhood gem.
We had a wonderful evening celebrating a birthday for a friend.
