About Domenica

Domenica is a contemporary and inviting Italian restaurant that creates regional Italian dishes with southern and middle eastern influences. The cuisine combines Chef Alon Shaya's Israeli heritage and love of local ingredients with a menu that reflects his time spent cooking and living in the small towns of northern Italy.

We are regular dinners at all of the local New Orleans restaurants. We can’t believe we haven’t been here until now. It was one of the best dinners we have had in a while. We will be back soon.

Return visit and same top notch food at top notch prices.

Meat and cheese board, lamb meatballs, side salad, lasagna and half and half pizza this trip in.

Even the house salad was outstanding. The lasagna lives up to its billing as "best in the US" and the lamb meatballs rock.

Expensive but one of New Orleans best and great location in the Roosevelt Hotel. Recommend and will return.

A staple...always very good. Great pizza with spectacular black squid ink pasta. Fresh seafood. The only downside---John Besh's "social" issues and a desire not to fund his restaurant empire.

We celebrated a birthday, and had a delicious meal. Two of us shared a lasagna, and they split it for us, so we didn’t have to worry about any mess. The food was perfectly cooked, and served in a timely manner. The waiter did a great job!

Service at Domenica is always stellar and last night was no exception. Server was personable and knowledgeable. The sweet potato gnocchi were delicious. One of my friends ordered the King Cake with banana filling. I am a New Orleans resident and I did not think that was worthy of Domenica. It had a really un-authetic feel. Minor issue for another wise very good experience.

We had eaten here two years ago in a private room for a birthday party and were impressed.
That experience did not translate well into the main dining room. The restaurant is somewhat dark, unusually decorated and loud. Our table was right next to a service station so that did
not contribute well to the experience.

The service was very good and our waiter was extremely personable. The food, I am sad to
say, was mediocre. The lasagna was touted by our waiter as the best in america by the Food
Network. If you like dry lasagna with little meat then this is the dish for you. My wife had the whole fish which was ok when you actually got to it under the layer of pesto sauce and between the inordinate amount of bones. If you want to eat a whole fish properly prepared then go to Peche. The hazelnut dessert complete with a few stale nuts included was forgettable.

This being a John Besh restaurant, we expected better. It is so frustrating to go to New Orleans
for a weekend and waste a meal at a mediocre restaurant. There are too many other great
restaurants in New Orleans, even better Besh restaurants, than to waste your time here. I will say that there were a lot of patrons eating pizza so maybe that is the way to go. For us, we will
go elsewhere.

Dinner was delicious and service was amazing. Waitress took the time to explain the menu. She give us good descriptions on meals, which was important because my wife has a hard time deciding off menus. She made us feel comfortable and kept on table full. and the lamb meatballs was amazing. should have order two.

We go to Domenica on our first night in New Orleans usually. This time was disappointing only because they were clearly understaffed. Although they did fairly well in spite of the situation there were obvious delays and essentially no checking on our table except for the delivery of our drinks and food. We just had pizza and a bottle of wine. Pizza was good. Wine selection is not good and overpriced.

We really enjoyed our New Year's Day lunch at Domenica. We were in town for the Sugar Bowl and chose this restaurant mainly because of proximity to our hotel and being able to get a reservation. Having seen it while out walking around, it looked like it would be a good spot and that certainly was the case.

We ordered a variety of things - pizza, rigatoni, roasted pork sandwich and squid ink pasta. Everyone was very satisfied with their choices. I had the sandwich which was served with a generous portion of collard greens (perfect for New Year's Day). It was delicious. In addition we had the roasted cauliflower as an appetizer. It was served with a very tasty feta spread and was way more than we could eat.

All in all, it was a very nice meal, great service and a comfortable, pleasant place to have a bite to eat before the Sugar Bowl game.

We had New Year's Eve dinner at Dominica. Our luck we had a waiter that didn't want to work on New Years and told us so. He was leaving the job at the end of the week, so didn't really care about much. Pretty much set the tone for the dinner. The food has been better in the past, also.

This was our 2nd try at a John Besch restaurant during our New Orleans visit. Also had dinner at Luke the night before which was very disappointing. Domenica had some highs and lows. My husband had the Margherita pizza (half price during happy hour) which was delicious. Crust was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of sauce. I hate a pizza drowning in sauce. I ordered the house salad and the pasta dish with the rabbit based on the server's recommendation. Both were underwhelming. The salad should have been billed as a beet salad as that was the majority of it. While I like beets, I was expecting more lettuce and other vegetables based on the menu description. The rabbit dish was lacking flavor and could have used some more seasoning. We had to wait 30 minutes to be seated despite having a reservation. Normally, I wouldn't mind but the hostess seated another couple ahead of us who arrived 20 minutes late for their reservation while we were on time for ours. The staff otherwise was courteous and attentive. The ambience is fine but a little noisy. I wouldn't return with all the other great dining options in New Orleans.

As long time diners at Domenica, we had not been on a few months based upon bad service from a server. After three months, we decided to give the place another chance. To be honest, we missed the food so much, we had to go back!

Well, they hit this out of the park! There were four of us. We ordered the Affettati Misti. Fantastic! The chicken liver pate is amazing as were the selections of cheeses and salumis. The "poofs" as we call them, heavenly savory, warm beignets that are served with the platter are simply to die for.

Next, we had the White Pizza and added prosciutto. I had a pasta dish served with lamb ragu and topped with fried chicken livers that melted in your mouth. My wife enjoyed the Tagliatelle with slow cooked rabbit and mushrooms. I almost forgot. My daughter and her boyfriend who shared the pizza, has a little secret she always adds to her order. She always orders a side if whipped feta that is served with roasted cauliflower, and dips the wood fired crust into it as an added treat. Decadent? Yes? Delicious? You bet!

I guess this review is simply trying to say, that every restaurant, no matter how great, can have an off day, even if it was caused my an "off" server. Let the management know. Don't write them off forever. Give them a chance to make things right. It had been three months since my last review. Apparently, management not only listens, but takes great notes. I mentioned nothing about my last experience, but they remembered and knew who we were. Kevin, our server was fantastic. Ryan, the manager that evening, was equally great! Thanks to both for making this experience everything Domenica has always been. Fabulous meal and we will return soon!

Domenica's traditional reveillon dinner was delicious and comforting. Typically four courses, we opted to skip the risotto course and started with the restaurant's signature roasted cauliflower with sea salt & whipped feta followed by porcini-rubbed beef bavette and creamed swiss chard. The milk chocolate Panna Cotta with salted caramel was one of the best desserts I've EVER tasted. Excellent service. Creative cuisine. Warm decor. Restaurant offers ala carte or per course menu options for the reveillon dinner December 1-31. Highly recommend.
