Domaine Hudson Ratings and Reviews
Great menu has big variety of sharing boards to start, The Duck liver mousse was delicious, pasta with mushrooms was light and tasty. I ordered the whole fish which was the Bronzino and that fish was ample for two, had to take the rest home. The rest of our group enjoyed the Duck and the other fish.
Serious kitchen, offering steak, duck, and 2 fish dishes the night we were there. I had a splendid endive with Asian pear salad to start. Then barramundi (white solid-flesh fish) pan sauteed so the skin was crisp, with citrus sauce and kohlrabi on the side; tasty, surprising flavor combination. Plate was not heated, though, which made the dish less flavorful after everything came down to room temperature. My wife had roast duck breast (excellent), plum-yogurt sauce plus duck leg confit (salty). Endive and Asian pear salad was first-rate. Asparagus side dish had light bread crumbs or perhaps unsweetened granola, with Bearnaise sauce--excellent. We sampled 3 red wines from their large by-the-glass selection, offered in 1.5 oz, 3 oz, and 5 oz sizes. Dessert was 3 cheeses plus condiments, with bread and crackers. Ambiance is lively but not noisy.
Everything was very good, especially the ambiance and service. The food was also very good, but a bit on the expensive side for the value received. Cocktails were $13-16 which was way too much, although they were quite good. Expect to pay $80-100 per person at the end of the bill.
As usual, our dinner was excellent! The Pork Belly Brisket was the best I've had...tender, sweet and smoky too. Both Mains (Duck and Beef) were tender and delish. Javier does a wonderful job explaining the menu and making you feel welcome. I wish we could eat here more often!
The wine was excellent, the food even better. Simple and taken for granted but the bread brought to the table was amazing. The pork belly brisket I had was to die for. My wife’s whole branzino was perfectly prepared. My strip steak was beautifully seared & crispy on the outside and exactly to my medium rare liking on the inside. It’s been a good half year since we’ve been to Domaine Hudson but we’ll be back soon.
Realy disappointed with our last visit to Domaine Hudson. Almost 20 minutes before our inital drinkorder arrived. The rest of the night our glasses sat empty for at least 20 minutes before our server returned to ask about next round. 3 people ordered the same pasta dish and one had no pancetta, one had tons of pancetta, one was about right. With each course about half of our table received room temperature or cold food. After dinner coffee was stone cold and topped with fresh whipped cream but no sugar added so it tasted awful. unfortunately our server never came back to check on us until long after the rest of the table finished their course. Sure we could have raised the issue then but then half the table might have gotten dishes and the rest of the table waits. Now to be fair some of our dishes were outstanding. The pork belly app was awesome, the cavatelli pasta was awesome, the duck was really good, the gelato was great. We love DH and have raved about it for years. The inconsistency with the food was strange and uncharacteristic in our experience but we could have solved that issue if our service wasn't awful. And then at the end of the evening our server brought the bill but then took it back saying she forgot to do something. When she brought the bill back she had pre-filled the tip with a 20% tip. We had a group of 7 so I get it that many restaurants have automatic tips for larger groups. But for that policy to be an automatic 20% tip? Yes 20%tip is standard for good service and we always exceed 25% for great service. But to be forced to pay a 20% tip for terrible service is an insult to every good server in the industry. This was such a bizarre experience at Domaine Hudson. I don't know when we will be up for returning and it is truly one of our favorites in Wilmington.
Domain Hudson continues to be my favorite special occasion spot in Wilmington. Everything from the creative and uniquely named cocktails to the delectable and not overly sweet dessert exceeded my expectations. Their customer service and attention to detail does not go unnoticed. We only go to this establishment about once or twice a year, but we are always greeted warmly by Javier, who goes above and beyond to make sure we have a wonderful experience. The food is extremely well-balanced and it is evident that a lot of thought and precision go into making each dish. One dish that really stood out last night was the pork belly brisket, which my husband and I both said ranks as one our top 10 favorite things we've eaten. Can't wait to return!
Oh the flavors! Our truffle pasta was a LITTLE disappointing (delicious but lacking truffle flavors which was why we ordered it) but EVERYTHING else was amazing! Pork belly was perfect (the fats were great with our Spanish wine), our duck main dish was unbelievable and my apple mousse at dessert was unbelievable! Add to it a fabulous wine list with a great array of non-ordinary /non-boring wines with a reasonable price range and it is a great night! Domaine Hudson can compete with restaurants in markets like NY or D.C. so in a small market like Wilmington it is a godsend!
The food and service are excellent, but the noise level due to the tight accomodations degrades the ambiance especially when there is a large table in the vicinity of your table. The night we were there, my wife and I need to shout to hear each other speak because everyone in the restaurant were trying to speak over one another. We felt that the price of the food was not worth the value of having to endure the loudness of our surroundings.
We went for an anniversary dinner and we were not disappointed. We are from Massachusetts touring the Brandywine area and wanted an exceptional restaurant for our anniversary dinner. We found it and it was as good as any in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, and we have some very good places. An additional non food treat is the presentation of the wine list, tablet style. Loved it all and wish we lived closer as we would frequent often.
Domaine Hudson is a lovely location for a private/personal dinner. You are welcomed-in to the restaurant with kindness and attended to respectfully throughout the dining experience. My husband and I celebrated my birthday, and when first looking at the menu, I became discouraged due to all of my various food allergies. The menu is limited, and I was allergic to at least one ingredient in each listed item. With this said, our server was very understanding of my concerns, and said that she would speak with the chef to see what could be done. Let’s just say that my meal was amazing, cooked exactly as I wanted, minus the ingredients that would have caused an allergic reaction. I had the roasted duck, and it was THE best duck that I’ve ever eaten. My mood definitely lifted, and I asked our server to thank the chef. Also, seeing that we were celebrating my birthday, I received a voucher for $20.00 off my next meal of $50.00 spent. We will definitely be returning.
My wife and I tried out DH based on various Internet reviews. We dined on a Thursday because of their $95 date night special that included charcuterie, entrees, desserts, and a bottle of wine. Nice deal, but our waiter did not appear to be a fan. His demeanor toward us cooled substantially after we ordered, and basically put a damper on the experience. We will definitely give DH another try because the food was quite good. Hopefully the waiter will be in a better mood. We did leave a $20 dollar bill as a tip.
Excellent three(3) course meal during Brandywine Restaurant Week; Javier was superb in describing selections and attentive to our table. Taste(s) and presentations were great and finding a wine offering of sparkling rose' was an extra treat. DM is one of the best restaurant in the greater PHL/WIL area.....hands down!
Creative cuisine, masterfully prepared, with handcrafted cocktails and the finest wine list this side of New York. The service is attentive and professional, but never overbearing. And the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed, yet upscale. Domaine Hudson offers a complete dining experience. My wife and I took our daughter here for her 17th birthday and she was treated like the princess she is. We could not have been happier. You will love every minute at this "Best of Delaware" restaurant.
