In the heart of Barrio Escalante, next to the iconic "El Farolito" roundabout, stands DOMA. A house of Costa Rican architecture and Spanish colonial dyes built-in 1945, which was restored for 10 long months; rescuing it from time, updating its design through a colorful façade, and giving it the value it deserves within the neighborhood.

    Es un espacio muy bonito y tranquilo, se nota que cuidan bastante del jardín, la atención fue muy buena y el brunch estuvo delicioso, el único detalle que mejoraría es la parte externa de la pavlova, ya que considero que estaba un poco dura para poder partirla con la cuchara, pero de ahí en fuera fue una experiencia excelente.

    Une découverte remplie d'émotions alors que nous côtoyons le Costa Rica depuis 14 ans. Un endroit magique, une table incroyable ou chaque plat est élaboré, pour vous rappeler la topographie et végétation si variée du pays de la Pura Vida. Le carpaccio de veau n'est pas simplement posé a plats sur l'assiette, mais il est surmonté des nuages d'oignons tempura, et des montées de volcans de parmesan. Un tableau parfait avec un goût exceptionnel. Un STAFF à la hauteur et heureux de travailler dans un endroit aussi charmant. Emanuel, est un sommelier hors pair, avec le respect du vin et des traditions qui l'entoure. Il vous proposera le meilleur selon votre menu, tout en respectant et partageant leur prix. Eric ..un maître d'hôtel, qui connaît ce que la cuisine propose, au moindre épices et cuissons, et le pâtissier , Paolo, qui a réussi de vous convaincre après un repas exceptionnel et pas trop copieux de vous laisser emporter par un de ses "postre"...juste a tomber. Nous avons pas eu l'occasion de rencontrer le CHEF, mais nous voulions lui dire simplement 👏 BRAVO...pas de fausses notes, une partition qui fonctionne à merveille. MERCI d'avoir partagé ses émotions qui resteront gravées dans Nos Memoires. On se réjouit de pouvoir revenir pour déguster et admirer d'autres plats.

    A doma-nating experience! I visited Doma Escalante with my wife for my birthday and we were blown away by the food, the service and the ambiance. The restaurant is located in a beautiful restored house with a flower shop and a window to the kitchen. We were greeted by the friendly staff and seated at a cozy table near the patio. The service was attentive and professional, but also warm and personable. The waiter explained each dish and wine in detail and answered all our questions. He also surprised us with a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate my birthday. It was a very thoughtful gesture that made us feel special. We had a wonderful time at Doma Escalante and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in San Jose. It is not cheap, but it is worth every colón. We will definitely be back to try their brunch menu and their cocktails. Thank you Doma Escalante for making my unforgettable!

    The first time everything was amazing. This second time I didn’t enjoy it so much food was different from the fist time specially the Entraña very different! And the waitress wasn’t so attentive.

    Visité junto con mi esposa para celebrar nuestro aniversario, una experiencia muy grata en todo sentido: la comida deliciosa con una presentación insuperable, el personal muy agradable y con mucho conocimiento, la decoración y el ambiente muy amenos. Sumando todos los elementos en conjunto obtuvimos una experiencia 100% satisfactoria.

    Came on a Saturday night, and the place was perfect since we wanted something lively but not packed and chaotic. Our server, Brandon, had some good food and drink suggestions, and they were delicious. I'm definitely bookmarking this place to come to again.

    This is my first time visiting San José and we found Doma Escalante highly recommended on Open Table so we decided to try it for dinner tonight. We were so incredibly happy we did! The ambiance was trendy, unique, cozy and classy. The food was absolutely delicious, portions were perfect, and the presentation was exquisite. The chef personally delivered several of our dishes, which was a very special touch. Our server Russell was wonderful. He was very friendly, attentive, welcoming, and made great menu recommendations. Overall, this was one of the most memorable meals I have ever had anywhere, and I would recommend Doma to anyone visiting San José!

    Porciones pequeñas, elegantemente servidas (algo caro). La atención extremadamente buena cuando llegaban a ofrecer y sugerir, muy serviciales (pero no pasaron preguntando que si gustábamos postre o digestivo).

    La comida increible! Todo recomendado! El risotto buenisimo! Los camarones al panko y el tartar de atún también. Randall nos atendió, super amable y excelente servicio! El lugar muy diferente a cualquier experiencia en otros restaurantes. Increíble.

    Los meseros no estaban bien informados acerca de los ingredientes de los platillos del menú, a pesar que informamos con antelación las alergias al gluten y lácteos. Las porciones fueron pequeñas y de sabor regular, en relación al precio de las mismas.

    Muy lindo el lugar y muy buen servicio. Nos pudieron hacer modificaciones rn algunos platos sin problema. No contaban con miel de maple para los pancakes, no tenian chile para agregarle a la comida y no recomiendo la tostada con salmon ahumado.

    Sadly, this was a wasted Saturday night. We have lived in San Jose for three years and go out to dinner as a family almost every Saturday night. This was, by far, the worst of all our experiences. The food was all show. The presentation was nice, but it was not good - the best dish was the chicken fingers they made my son. At first, they didn't want to open the bottle of wine we brought (almost every restaurant in CR does "descorche"). However, the owner agreed, and I even gave him a glass of our Kosta Browne. When the bill arrived, they had charged us almost $70 USD for corkage - more than twice as much as most locations and more than most bottles on their list - which was sad compared to other nice restaurants in CR. The ambiance was nice with some interesting art, but that was probably the highlight. Unfortunately, this place wasn't worth the drive.
