One of my top three restaurants for dinner in Portsmouth. The sushi grade tuna is a must have, the best I have found. Staff has always been friendly. Relaxing dining room.
Would not recommend. Friendly but extremely slow disorganized service. Food below average
Sad. Food was good but not great. We were there for about an hour and half and were the only dinners in the entire restaurant. Kind of creepy.
Food quality did not match price point. The steak was clearly frozen and had not flavor what so ever. The lobster mac and cheese was disappointing and the variety of cheeses used didn't leave a pleasant flavor. Might have been an off night cause the place was empty but most likely wouldn't return.
Good service, great atmosphere, great food, good prices. Made our anniversary very special 😍
We wanted a really good fish dinner and were thrilled that we chose this place. Our martinis were perfect and our seafood chowder was fantastic, full of fresh ingredients and spices in a perfect blend of cream and natural broth. A bowl with a salad could be a meal. The cup was generous and a wise choice when I saw the size of the haddock oscar, stuffed with delicious lump crab, all over perfectly grilled asparagus, a fabulous sauce, and with a lobster claw. We let the bar choice a glass of dry white wine and were delighted by his choice. We so wish this place were close to home as it would be frequented often. Given the culinary skilled shown with our choices there is clearly talent that would assure other item would be prepared equally well.
Dining out is an experience that should be positive, delicious and happy. The Dolphin Striker provides all that! Peter greeted us with a big welcoming smile and Ann, our server, was exceptional. We were visiting Portsmouth for the weekend, celebrating our 9-yr anniversary. We started with the PEI mussels as an appetizer, which blew us away! Ann provided us the extra bread for soaking up the heavenly broth. We both ordered the haddock, Dan the Oscar and me the Piccata. They did not disappoint. Dan says the Haddock Oscar was his favorite dish in Portsmouth! I wish I had a picture of the mussels.
All in all, our experience at Dolphin Striker was memorable and exception. If we are ever in Portsmouth again, we will be dining at this restaurant again for sure.
Thank you Peter and Ann!!!

We had difficulty finding a restaurant in Portsmouth that would take a reservation for six on a Friday night. We found Dolphin Striker on Open Table. The food was surprisingly very good. We all had different entrees and everyone was happy. Would definitely return to Dolphin Striker.
We enjoyed the Tina sandwich which was just perfect after traveling all day. Stephanie was a very attentive and helpful server. Thanks!
Honestly, I don't know why there aren't more patrons. Fabulous meal, good portions and great service. I know Ptown has an abundance of restaurants, but the DS is one of the best values and we will be back aain and again!
Came for the lobster, but that's only served on Friday's and Saturdays; left pleasantly surprised and satisfied!
We weren't familiar with the restaurant scene in Portsmouth, so we chose Dolphin Striker for its availability on short notice and good yelp ratings (and because it served lobster which was a must for my wife because I refused to eat again at the Cape Neddick Lobster (rotting) Pound.
The inside is charming, much like we see in Boston, but understandably we were concerned that there was only one other table of diners in a town where most other restaurants were booked solid.
After having learned that the restaurant doesn't have a live lobster tank and hence no lobster except on Friday and Saturday, we focused on the other menu items - all which looked to be quite tasty. And we were not disappointed.
The Halibut Oscar was superb with tons of fresh crab meat and a hollondaise that was not too rich or lemony. The Wellonington Cannope was devine and the steak tips were fantastic.
The pricing was quite reasonable and the service was personable.
I'd highly recommend Dolphin Striker. I'd just like to know why they weren't busy. They've got a great location right at the end of Bow Street.
Fantastic food, great ambience but the best part was the service. Highly recommend.
We decided to try someplace different for dinner and we're glad we did. The restaurant has a nice rustic interior and is nice and quiet. We started out with the cheese plate which had a nice assortment of three different cheeses and toasted bread. For our meals we had the haddock piccata and beef Wellington. Everything was excellent including the service provided by Anne. We were so impressed we made it a point to talk to the owner, Peter, who stopped by our table. We will definitely be back next time we are in Portsmouth.
Good food and great service. In the end worth the money.
Food was delicious, although waitress did not mention that the appetizer (tuna cerviche) my husband ordered was the same exact item that would be in his trio entree dinner. He said tuna was delicious but too much tuna!
Family dinner for 9 people. Great seafood. Everyone was very happy with the entire experience. The food and service were excellent. The room got noisy but overall it was great.
Very nice evening meal. pretty view out side window of harbor. Had haddock piccata, very yummy, as was my watermelon martini. My son had the burger, also excellent. Service was attentive and nice. Recommended!
Love the crab cakes with eggs benedict! The blackberry bellini was fresh and tasty!
Excellent food and service and the location in downtown Portsmouth is also nice. The manager/owner was very friendly and came over to our table 2-3 times to talk and make sure everything was OK.
Have not been here for a while. But thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and plan to return for other enticing items on the menu. Staff was warm and gracious, friendly and attentive. I guess we had forgotten how good it was - and definitely still is.
Our meals were excellent - I would highly recommend the beef wellington. It was cooked exactly as I requested. My husband had the seafood trio and was also pleased with his meal. Our server was very friendly and checked back several times to make sure we were pleased with our meals. The owner also stopped by our table and thanks us for spending our anniversary as his establishment. This is our 3rd year going to Dolphin Striker for a nice quiet anniversary celebration. It is worth the drive and we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant for VERY GOOD food and service.
Stopped here with my wife, son, and his girlfriend on a Friday night, our last night in Portsmouth. We were having trouble getting into other restaurants but found an opening here. Location is right down by the river, but not on it. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and able to make recommendations. The food was outstanding. We had mussels and oysters on the half shell as an appetizer. Average beer list, but sufficient. The fun part about this place is the Spring Hill Tavern located downstairs with nightly live music. It's a quaint little bar with the original Spring used to replenish ships back in the 1600's incorporated into the bar. Very cool! It can be cramped, but it's a fun atmosphere! This is the second time we've visited Portsmouth and we make it a point to come here.
We were greeted as soon as we walked in. My open table reservation asked for a side table as I have a hearing problem and I was given a great seat next to a window and did a lot of people watching. The service was good, the food was very good and they make great cocktails. Prices were less than you see at comparable restaurants. I would go back.
The food was excellent, and the service was friendly and attentive. The blackened salmon with pasta was delicious!
My wife and I have been going to the dolphin striker now for 7 years to celebrate our anniversary and absolutely love it. We actually almost went to another restaurant this year to mix it up a bit but changed our minds last minute... And we weren't dissapointed. Food and environment are great!
It was amazing. Our server was wonderful and extremely personable. It was a gorgeous night for watching passersby. The food was outstanding...from drinks to dessert.
The food is always superb, the service pleasant and attentive! The historic building, the neighborhood ambiance are hard to beat.
We had a very nice time and our server was very accommodating to our party!
Very good experience overall. Great atmosphere was spot on for the quiet sea coast dinner we were looking forward too. Food was excellent! It was a quieter night though and the staff seemed a bit less interested in the customers than personal conversation. Waited a while at for intial service then had to ask a different person than our waiter for the bill. All staff was super helpful and friendly though, would recommend to anyone looking for a nice meal.
always a great place to dine,, historic Portsmouth...perfect location...and great food...service is exceptional
Great spot for a late lunch. Great drinks and tapas. Enjoyed it!
My husband and I chose Dolphin Striker as the single Portsmouth restaurant that we most wanted to visit just before our move from York, Maine to Chicago, IL. My husband ordered the large lobster mac & cheese, his favorite, and it was delicious. I had the blackened mahi mahi, which is served over fettuccine. It too was delicious. We will miss this restaurant, despite having an abundance of good restaurants available to us in Chicago!
Best lobster Benedict ever! So good! We'll be back!
Great brunch options! Food was good, but the service was slow. Worth the wait.
Dolphin Striker is in downtown Portsmouth in the heart of the historic district. The building containing the restaurant is an old warehouse dating from the 1800s and has a charm of its own. We were there on a Thursday evening, and were seated in a bay window in the front dining room, which added to the charm of the restaurant as I could watch people enjoying their surroundings as they passed by.
My husband and I shared a salad, which was brought to us already divided - a very nice touch. He had the Haddock Oscar as a main dish and I had the Beef Wellington, and we were both satisfied with our choices. We shared a sinfully rich chocolate cake for dessert with our decaf coffee, since chocolate is always a great way to end a meal.
We have dined here many times over the years, and we have always been satisfied with the food and the service. Would definitely recommend, especially to visitors to the area as it embodies much of Portsmouth's past.
First visit. Lived her four years and not sure why we waited so long. It was a really nice surprise and would recommend checking it out. Everything was excellent!
We had a Limelight Deal to use at Dolphin Striker, which brought us there though we have eaten there before. The waitstaff was very attentive and my Seared Tuna Sandwich was outstanding. I don't eat a lot of fish, but this was excellent.
We went to celebrate college graduation. We had a large party. Our server was fantastic. They were plenty of options for the children and for the non-seafood eaters. The drink menu had something for everyone. We recommend a stop at the Dolphin Striker when you are in Portsmouth
Our waitress was slammed. She was very busy and not attentive. I was on a date with my girlfriend and it took 15 minutes for our drinks, only brought half our appetizers and my girlfriends steak was tough. The Maui Maui was incredible. Overall, I wouldn't return or recommend. High hopes, big let down.
We were sat by the restroom hallway and since there is only one restroom the traffic was too busy and distracting.
