They said they can't access online reservations so they couldn't find my reservation and I could not collet points!
Our party showed up right on time then, the manager informed us that they do not honor Open Table reservations.
After some mild protest our party of six were seated at a table set for two.
The restaurant was at least half empty with several large tables sitting empty, when we inquired about the empty large tables, manager claimed they were saved for a group of 28 people on their way in, we would have to stay at our small two-person table.
We thought that considering the discomfort of a table too small, a huge group nearby, and the kitchen trying to keep up with a 28 person group, it would be best if we just left.
The manager seemed to have no interest in keeping us there. I can't rule out some racial profiling and racial discrimination either.
I/we will not be back to Dolo, far too many choices for our restaurant dollars.
They didn’t have a bartender working, so no cocktails... but were also out of Tsingtao. Nonetheless, the food was delicious and big portions, too!
Honestly one of the best meal experiences I have ever had. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great. Already can't wait to go back.
Synced Lee stated, this restaurant has no redeeming qualities. It was dirty, it was in disrepair, the service was awful, we went there because we wanted Chinese food but also drinks, but we were informed that the bartender had the day off. So much for that. One dish was good. But one was in edible.
Food was great and the atmosphere was very nice .
If you are looking for good / authentic Chinese, don't bother w/ Dolo, there are many other fine restaurants in the Chinatown area. Greasy, poor quality food; mediocre at best service; and, they are in serious need for a total update on the interior. Booth seating is very badly worn, many of table tops were damaged, peeling or missing wood veneer. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Their management / ownership should be embarrassed.
Decent Chinese-fusion food. Terrible service on a busy day. Had to keep asking servers to take order. Then everything (appetizers and entry) came at once. Had to hunt down a server to bring bill.
Food was good, the service was horrific. There was only few tables, and two servers on. The one we got sat us right away, offered us tea, and then vanished. After 10 minutes, still nothing, but we had selected everything we wanted to order. Spent the next 2 minutes watching the same server lean up against the bar, 50 feet away, remove his show halfway and scratch his foot non stop, then go to another table without washing his hands. Finally the other server came and took our order. I asked again for tea, and told him I had been waiting and when he asked who I told, rolled his eyes and muttered something inaudible and stormed off and returned with tea only after I asked HIM again, and only after he brought our drinks from the bar and our entrees. The check was tossed on the table quickly after clearing our table, without offering a dessert menu or another round of drinks, or even refilling our water. We were there for a special occasion, and there to order a full experience (and spend money), and they could not wait for us to go from the moment we sat down. I understand wanting to go home, I get that our reservations were for 9 pm (my son's play he was in ended at 8:30; what do you want me to do?), but don't take late reservations if you don't want to serve people late then. I have never felt so unwelcome at a place. Its a shame too, because apart from the jellyfish, which was too spicy for my son to eat, the food was really good. We will never go back.
I took my friend from dinner. The waiter was accommodating with us and help her on food/menu options. The food was delicious and the value was worth it. The place was crowded and noisy and had to wait for 20 minutes for our table. Overall, my friend and I enjoyed the food and service.
The food was fantastic and had a lot of flavor. It was fairly quiet for a Friday night, however if you have kids or other folks who prefer chill settings this is a decent spot.
Delicious! French Beef Tenderloin and Japanese Style Tofu were life changing.
Just so so. I had been back for a couple of weeks from a first visit to China and was hungry for Chinese food. I'm not sure this is any worse than other places in Chicago but was disappointed that it was nowhere near as good as the food I had enjoyed in Beijing. Quality of the ingredients may not have been as good as the flavors were not as intense and overall the food seemed greasier than what I had in China. I did like our server though.
Food was good. Excellent quality and service. Would recommend if you are looking for a great Authentic Chinese meal. Would go back. Very cheap eat with lots of food to share.
Delicious food, great variety, very good service. The walnut shrimp is to die for. The corn chowder chicken soup is also very good, as is the mango beef and fried rice. We always order a variety of dishes and share with our friends and family.
Very oily food. My stomach hurt that night. Terrible service.
Based on the reviews I expected to find a restaurant with great food. Unfortunately I was disappointed to find my food very ordinary. The place was dirty - chairs stacked on the patio with debris and TVs playing with inappropriate movie for a family restaurant.
Meh. Right out of the gate they didn’t have either the wine that I wanted or the beer that my husband wanted. The menu was difficult to understand. Lots of photos but what looked like an item that would be steamed rather than fried apparently was not. Maybe we were just unlucky. The restaurant warned us that the chicken dish that we were considering had bones but we had no idea that the pieces would be less than two inches and filled with tiny bones. Nothing had much flavor either. Just didn’t work got us at all.
Dolo was amazing! My boyfriend and I went to celebrate my birthday. We were looking around for good seafood and Dolo was SUPER reasonable with price! I had the crab in their home style sauce (kind of like a Cajun style sauce) and it was absolutely amazing. I wanted so much more but was too full. Their portions are great and the general ambiance is also great. I definitely recommend coming here for special occasions or just to eat some delicious Asian food!
I made the reservation to try dims, but they didn't offer it when we came. Food was just ok. Servers didn't know much about preparation of food, type of fish in entrees and anything else we asked. I guess there might have been a language barrier. Anyway, I wouldn't drive out to come here. It's like any other fine dining Chinese restaurant anywhere in the city.
Absolutely perfect food and service.
This is an authentic Cantonese restaurant. If you look around the restaurant, you will notice that most people there are actually Chinese. We ordered off the menu, but after ordering we realized that everyone was ordering lobster. Apparently there was a lobster special written in Chinese ok the wall. Since our meal was so delicious the first time, we came back for the lobster which was also superb. One of the owners (and bartenders) even stopped by our table and sat with us to see how we were enjoying our meal. I haven't had Chinese food this good in a long time.
Too crowded, too noisy. In spite of having a reservation, we waited 45 min. Good food but not that different from other Chinese restaurants. I was expecting something more upscale. It is ordinary room with tables close together and noisy. not good for a relaxed dinner.
We were looking for something authentic for our first visit to Chinatown in Chicago. We arrived and service started out good, but then our waiter disappeared between appetizer and entree. We then soon discovered that there was a restaurant wide party scheduled as younger people started pouring in. Food didn't taste bad and portions were plentiful, but in the end gave us both stomach aches. Won't be going back any time soon.
Would not recommend trying this place unless you're into feeling very ill that night. Although the service was good, they did talk us into ordering the most expensive items on the menu. The items we did receive were a chicken dish that was 60% bone and 35% fat and a noodle dish that was completely deep fried and drenched in sauce. Something about the food gave me an immediate migraine and weird feeling throat, followed by a very rough night indeed. We ate little for the $70 we spent and tossed the leftovers the next morning.
This place is fantastic! I brought guests from out of town, and they lived everything about it. Jason does a great job walking newcomers through the menu, asking what they like/dislike, and making personalized suggestions. Highly recommend!
food as good as before, but the plate is not so clear this time.
Hadn't realized that they only served dim sum on weekend brunches, so that was a slight bummer since that was why we went, but we should have checked. Service was a little slow for a non-busy Sunday, but still friendly. Food portions are large - i was eating my delicious leftovers for two more meals after!
The portions were reasonably generous, but the food quality was just okay. The beef dish was inconsistent, with some gristly pieces that were just not chewable.
Our service was not very good in spite of coming before the dinner rush. Our server wasn’t attentive and we were left without water for much of the time. When we commented on the gristly beef, our server just shrugged and walked away (language barrier?). The bartender agreed to take some of the price off the ticket, so that was nice.
Jason is a great host! All of the food we ate were authentic Hong Kong Style dishes!
If you are looking for a great Chinese restaurant, look no further than Dolo!
We will certainly be back!
The Walnut shrimp had way too much mayonaise. Otherwise the shrimp were fresh and good. Interesting that a child's birthday party was going on in the main dining room with about 150 guests. We still had good service, though it was a bid odd of a setup for a Saturday night.
Food was great! Ordered 5 dishes and they were 5 for 5. Staff was great with recommendations. We will be back.
Amazing service and really good food. Flaming short ribs were actually served flaming.....A new go to in Chinatown.
Delicious. Salt & pepper enoki mushrooms unique, in our experience, among Chinatown restaurants.
We couldn't have been happier with the service, food, and custom craft cocktails! We trusted staff to recommend our food and drinks and only one item was on the regular menu. Excellent!
Friendly staff that help my date and I pick out some good food. Wishbi would've known about this place so I could've taken my out of town friends here. Would recommend this place. Side note. The mapo tofu would've been awesome with some extra heat.
Will not be going back. Had high expectations based on reviews, but the service was terrible. Sat unattended to for 30 minutes, so I left. The green tea I did receive was hot.
Delicious feast for a group of 5. Lots of choices, loved what we ordered, the drinks were great. Service was a little slow due to a large large party. LOVE DOLO!
Food was seasoned well. The service was great and they were very friendly . Would definitely go back
We came here after a concert at the CSO. The food was quite good. They have a large assortment of seafood dishes, and the two we had (Szechuan Seafood Eggplant Casserole and Shrimp with Garlic Sauce were excellent, as was the Baby Bok Choy. The Beef with Spicy Oil appetizer (served cold) was disappointing. The waitress was not as familiar with the menu or the drinks as she should have been. But overall a good experience and we will return.
