I returned to Doe Bay where I met my husband 30 years ago, and there was this lovely foodie restaurant. My husband was traveling, and this was our anniversary, so I ate for both of us. The risotto was amazing flavors of umami creamy nutty goodness. Every bite was amazing!
Thank you for a lovely dinner Andy. It was definitely the right move to order all the vegetables on the menu. Every veggie dish was treated with care and love, and the cashew cream and golden beets were my favorite. Thank you also for your help making our dinner happen in a bit of a hurry. We did make it to the ferry in time after all! You are wonderful, thank you for taking such good care of us, we're looking forward to next time, when we will order all the veggies again and all desserts on the menu too.
The food and service were excellent! The timing of the meal was a little slow as the kitchen got a bit backed up, but otherwise, everything was great.
EXCELLENT food, EXCELLENT SERVICE!
Highly recommended. The pork shoulder was one of the best dishes I've ever enjoyed. Everything about the experience was special. The drive to Olga in the dark to a place I wasn't sure about almost stopped us from keeping our reservations, but I am so so glad that we went. Most enjoyable.
Nice location and friendly place. We went around Thanksgiving, restaurant was a bit drafty with people opening the door all the time and heating suboptimal. Service was very friendly, food was decent was value was rock bottom, even for Orcas. Incredibly overpriced. Probably won’t be going back.
A perfect evening in every way! The view, the food, the service, the atmosphere. We will definitely return!
Outstanding, innovative, delicious food and drinks. We enjoyed our meal immensely. Prices seemed slightly high but overall experience was excellent!
They don’t have as many vegetarian and vegan options as they used to and they weren’t really able to figure something out to accommodate us.
Excellent food, friendly, helpful staff, nice setting.
I’ve been to Doe Bay Cafe a bunch of times over the years with a lot of different chefs. The last time I was there, in August 2018, the food was spectacular. But it seems there’s been another chef change. Our food was so strange with ingredients that were not meant to be put together. A thin and very overcooked, heavily pan fried piece of halibut sat atop a giant cold slab of tomatoes with strange ribbons of something (Apple maybe?) and was meant to be served with a caper hollandaise. A nicely cooked porkchop was served on top of some random large cut peppers and onions and grapes. Every dish was off the mark. It was very disappointing. The service was wonderful and our server was an absolute gracious delight but I won’t be back til there’s a new chef.
The halibut entree was expertly cooked to be crisp on the outside and moist and tender inside. The delicata squash peeling garnish was difficult to chew. The sauce was excellent. The cabbage salad was good, but for someone with a larger appetite. The chocolate mouse cake was moist and delicious. There were quite a few people there that night and I found it noisy.
Words can’t describe the experiences I’ve had here. It’s Heaven on Earth
The food and service is magically delicious. The natural setting is icing on the cake.
I think the cafe has yummy food but the value is not great - in that the portion sizes are rather small.
The food is generally tasty. We did not like the uncooked squash which was on the plate with the haddock. Who eats uncooked squash...not me anyway. The noise level was way too high we thought - we were seated next to a table of about 15 or 18 folks and that is just way too large a group for the size of the cafe. It just does not suit the ambiance. Had we known about that table, our little table of 4 celebrating a birthday would have made reservations at a different time. I guess next time we will know to ask. The service was great and we thought Andy did a wonderful job. Thanks Doe Bay, we will be back. Cheers!
Food was amazing! Super creative dishes and well seasoned, tons of flavor.
This was an outstanding and memorable dining experience. The food was superb and beautifully presented. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgable and adorable...everything was perfect. I hope to return some day...thank you.
Beautiful ambience and food was some of the best I’ve ever had.
We were a party of 6 on a Saturday night and everyone was thrilled with the whole experience. We are going back to enjoy the famous Doe Bay breakfast.
Every time I go to Doe Bay Cafe, I am taken aback by the beauty, care, quality, and love in the food and atmosphere. It keeps getting better and better. Love from a local!
Loved our friendly waiter. But menu was short and we were very they didn’t have oysters as an appetizer on our annual visit.
Had a wonderful meal at Doe Bay. Restaurant choices on Orcas were (in our experience) largely disappointing, including service -- Doe Bay was a refreshing exception.
We had their focaccia (never my favorite bread, but they did a good job) with a lovely spread of olive oil/ butter/salt and olives to start. I had an heirloom tomato salad with pesto and pistachios, my partner had house-made tagliatelle with pesto and sausage -- both were delicious with fresh, bright flavor. Drinks were creative and also very good.
Our server was fantastic.
Definitely recommend a meal or two while on Orcas.
Excellent everything, we were actually a part of six but they wee able to combine our two reservations and seat us outside. The food was fabulous and the service was great!
One of the nicest Cafe evenings in years of visits. Andy was gracious and helpful in serving us.
Wonderful experience. Excellent food, lovely outside dining space and our waiter mentioned that it was the perfect night to witness bioluminescence. So after dark we found a place and experienced this amazing phenomenon. Dinner and a show!
We love Doe Bay Cafe, but it didn’t seem quite as good food as usual. Maybe it was the focus on the wedding. But the service and ambiance was great .
The noise decibel was very high, the server did not even off us a chance to order drinks and the food was moderate to poor. the pasta dish was mostly oil. They did, however repair it upon request.
We had a wonderful dinner at Doe Bay Cafe. Our server was great. Food sourced locally and combined in interesting ways. Would definitely go again.
We have been here twice before for breakfast; both times it was great. This time my wife and I made it our anniversary dinner date. We arrived by boat, anchored out front, and paddled in to shore. The atmosphere is wonderful; perched on a rocky point overlooking the bay, surrounded by fir trees. We had drinks, apps, dinner and dessert. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and poignant, without being overbearing. All of the food was great, and my porkchop was probably the best one I’ve ever had. It was seared crispy and browned on the outside and cooked just right to retain its moisture. If you can eat here - do it.
I reserved through OpenTable and arrived just in time but learned that our table wouldn't be ready until 15 minutes later. :-( They were caught red-handed for overlooking this reservation. No matter, we were patient and enjoy our dinner experience. The dishes were hit and miss. Choose your dish wisely. Oh yeah, overpriced for the dishes, IMO. Cheers.
We had a great experience at the cafe. Beautiful plates of food - all farm to table. We had a glitch with Open Table that we went to change our reservation from 6 to 7 people and couldn’t. We showed up and had to squish into a booth with 7 :(
One of the better places to eat on Orcas Island. But, the Inn at Ship Bay is much better and nearer Eastsound.
The Doe Bay Cafe is a fun place to go, primarily since it’s part of the legendary Doe Bay Resort. But, the restaurant itself is just average in every way. On can easily surpass the quality of the food at home, and the menu was not all that interesting. One reason to go to an expensive restaurant is to find something that you cannot experience at home. The Doe Bay Cafe did not offer such an experience. The restaurant was too loud, the service a bit slow, and the price was high.
I had moderate expectations going in to Orcas Island for the first time in general. I suspected that it would have little offer in terms of great food and atmosphere for great value. However, the island blew me away, as did Doe Bay Cafe. My favorite part of our visit, dinner at Doe Bay Cafe presented a well-rounded menu of creative flavors and fresh local ingredients. The plating was classy yet approachable. The wine list was concise yet well-rounded. The service was attentive and friendly yet non invasive. I can't wait to go back and would recommend over literally any other restaurant on the island.
I hate to write this review because I am very fond of this place - the food is delicious, considered, flavorful and usually a delight. I also hate to write it because I know there has been a labor shortage on Orcas this year and it has been a problem for many businesses. HOWEVER: we made a reservation for dinner, were seated on time and...35 minutes later our cocktails arrived, 50 minutes later we had to ask for the bread to be brought to us (which they charge for) and one hour and fifteen minutes later after 2 reminders our appetizers were served. There were no updates provided, no apologies given, no comps made.
Doe Bay Cafe plays pro ball in terms of their food - the service should be of the same caliber. It is unprofessional and rude to assume diners should wait seated for over an hour to be served, and if this happens (which we all understand does from time to time) the diners should be given fair warning and compensated for it. At a minimum in any fine dining establishment (our bill was over $200 for 3 adults and 2 children after all) I would expect a round of drinks, free apps, free bread (???) and a sincere thank you for patience waiting. Not one of these things occurred - which is, in the end, straight up inconsiderate and does not reflect the professionalism the food deserves.
Doe Bay is not a formal establishment. But it is priced as a gourmet establishment and if patrons are asked to pay the price they deserve far better treatment. Frankly, i would expect and typically receive far better treatment at any of the lower priced restaurants on the island.
Step it up, Doe Bay - or you’ll lose customers fast.
Outstanding, attentive service with a smile. Charming, rustic setting. Farm to table menu. The pasta dish was favorable as was the fish dish. The only regret was having only one fish dish that was black cod, and not my favorite fish. I was hoping for halibut or salmon.
We had a great experience dining at Doe Bay Cafe. I had been to Doe Bay before to stay and soak but had never had dinner there. Both the service and food were impeccable and exceeded our expectations. I had a friend in town from Denver and he was equally impressed. Molly was our server and she was friendly, warm, and attentive. We would definitely return! Thank You.
Food was very innovative and delicious. Ambiance is casual with the feel of a remote camping site. View is not as interesting as other parts of Orcas Island, but the food and service more than makes up for it. Definitely worth the drive but make reservations far in advance as they are very busy!
Everything was fresh, interesting and fabulous!
I really loved everything. The food at time was not my flavor or sensibility. But some of it was to die for. I suggest you go and enjoy it for yourself and come to your own personal conclusion.
