Doc Crow's Southern Smokehouse & Raw Bar

Fantastic food, definitely a lively crowded bar scene
This is my can't miss place for when people are in from out of town. It straddles the nice/casual line perfectly. It's in a cool part of town, on Whiskey Row two doors down from the Old Forester Distillery one way and a half-block from the Yum Center the other. I've been there 50 times and it hasn't missed once.
Something for everyone but uniquely Louisville. Best shrimp and grits in town and I tell everyone. The Could Be Cursed cocktail is our new favorite tiki/rum drink. We will be back.
A bit pricey. Good quality food. Portion sizes on smoked meat sampler was surprisingly small. Fresh oysters good but $3 EACH was crazy-my bad not asking Market Price. Good bar selections. Slow service. Restroom out of toilet paper-on a Thursday at 7 pm
Excellent atmosphere, wonderful food & drinks. Excellent service too!
The oysters and ribs I ordered weren’t anything special, very average. Service was slow even though the restaurant was almost empty.
Took a medium sized party there for a work dinner and everyone enjoyed it, would definitely recommend. Noise level gets a little loud and when you're in the back, sometimes takes a bit for drinks.
Our server was pleasant, attentive, congenial and perceptive. She did a great job.
Best restaurant in downtown Louisville! Great food, service, and atmosphere. Everyone in my party loved it.
The food was ok but the service was lacking. We ordered our dessert when we ordered our meal and the dessert, with ice cream, was brought out too early.
Great food. Loved everything we ordered. Would return
Nice dinner at Doc Crows! Always consistent, love the lively atmosphere, fun location. We did an Old Forester tour and then dinner with a small group. Great service!
Always a great time here to celebrate, bring visitors, or local get away.
A must try anytime in Louisville!! Once you try it you will be back again!
Very warm sitting next to the kitchen area...I would recommend asking for a table further in the back of the restaurant. The brisket wasn’t good, even after the waiter said it wasn’t her favorite...but the hush puppies, MAC & cheese, sirloin, nacho app and everything else was pretty yummy! Not a good wine selection...I know it’s a bourbon/beer place but just sayin.
Visiting from California. Sat all the way in the back of restuarant. I waited over 5 minutes and was getting ready to leave before waitress came. Others were attended to immediately and had water poured. After that everything went well. Had ribs and when finished I had to ask for wet wipes. The area where I sat were only 3 other small parties at tables.it wasnt busy.
Enjoyed the lunch we had at Doc Crows. Wish she’d had dinner ther the night before as they have a good menu at reasonable prices. The food was great. Our service was excellent.
Group of 10. Enjoyed our experience and the food very much. Would recommend for large groups as there were many dining at the same time and the wait staff appeared well positioned to care for all.
Great Server, Great Food, No Pappy Van Winkle available
Great bourbon “list” but actual availability leaves a bit to be desired. I guess that’s what you get from a high volume restaurant. Shrimp and Grits were good but they should call it Grits with Shrimp—bowl of Grits with 4 shrimp on top. BBQ Sampler was exactly that— a sample! If your hungry, pick something else. Hindsight is 20/20–next time in Louisville, will pick another spot to drop $100+.
The brisket was outstanding. Pulled pork was good. Service was excellent. The restaurant needs some acoustical tile. It was way too loud.
Food was super and service was just outstanding. Very attentive staff and friendly!
Fantastic! Have had several meals there in the past several years and can not complain about any of them. The food is great! The service excellent! And they serve the BEST Maker’s Mark Old Fashion! Get yourself a reservation and have a great time. Or, just show up, the wait is worth it! Thank you Doc Crows!
The food and service was outstanding. The only problem we had was deciding what to eat and drink. We love visiting Louisville and we always put Doc Crows on our list of to do's.
We really enjoyed Doc Crows. Since I had made a reservation, we only waited about 5 minutes. I strongly suggest making a reservation.
Everyone in my party was very happy with the food.
The only complaint we all had was that it was very noisy. We had a hard time hearing each other.
Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Would definitely go again.
Awesome, enjoyed the good.
If you like raw oysters and smoked meat, this is your place! Lots of fun and you'll leave stuffed!
I’ll definitely return when I’m next in Louisville! A thunderstorm was pouring rain, so we showed up an hour early for a 6PM reservation, and they accomodated us with an open table. I ordered a Bangarang, a hot concoction that reminded me of smooth cider; perfect for a light warm up on a cold day. I had Shrimp they were that perfect. My SO managed to polish off all of his Baby Back ribs, but was defeated by the giant Baked Potato he ordered. He said leaving the two fluffy potato bites on his plate in favor if getting a share of my Key Lime Pie for dessert was a fair trade. We had tickets for Hamilton, so we ordered two coffees to keep us awake past our normal bedtime, and they were as strong as Alexander Hamilton’s ambitions, with a much smoother finish. Our only quibble was that we were seated in what is a widened, dark alcove in a hallway between the bar and the dining rooms. It was noisy and there was a constant stream of traffic by our table, both staff carrying huge food-laden trays aloft (by one hand! so skilled) and patrons headed to and frm the bathrooms. Next time, we’ll request a table in the back window-lined dining room and give the 5-star review Doc Crow’s deserves.
I wasn't really "wowed" by the place. Decent food. Nothing that just blew me away. We ordered the "mild" wings as an app and they came out blazing hot. Our lips were burning. Grilled Chicken sandwhich didn't have much flavor. Chips were kind of eh. My husband had brisket sandwhich which was good. I wouldn't make special trip downtown for food there.
Always a great time, visitors in from out of town also got to partake
Good food and service. Truly southern cuisine.
It was just OK. Doc Crow's was recommended to us for barbecue. For me, it was just average. My dining partner and I shared their sampler dinner that contained pulled pork, brisket, and 1/2 rack of ribs. The pork was very good. I didn't have much of the brisket, and the ribs were dry. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable about bourbon, which my dinner partner enjoyed. However, service was very slow, and water and after-dinner coffee refills we not offered. Given the number of restaurants in the area, I would probably not return. It wasn't awful, just average.
I do not feel the food was that great. We were seated at the back and there was a party of apx 17 men and 1 women and they were very loud and then the F bomb was let flying, and there were family's seated back there and no one seemed to want to do anything about it.
Service was very good and fast. Food was also good; pulled pork very good but beef brisket was a little dry. Cheesy grits and fried okra were delicious.
Great food and great whiskey selection...food was amazing and the service was impeccable!
Always great food. Little pricey for lunch. We had a party of 8.
The service was extremely slow and we were there before it was busy. The brisket was the fattiest I’ve ever had and dry. My colleague felt the same way. Apps were good. Overall, we were disappointed and underwhelmed.
Everything about the evening went well! Our server was exceptional - knowledgeable and helpful with food suggestions. The drinks were great and our meals exceptional. Shrimp and Gris creole! Mercy!! And the oyster apps and mussels - the same. It was one really good experience!
