Love the food at Doc Crow's and did not disappoint on this visit. Spicy pork rinds appetizer, greatest Old Fashioned, pork chops, mashed potatoes and side salad were all delicious and a good value for quality of food and quantity. Our server - though very pleasant - was not attentive at all. Waits for everything were way too long and failed to capture her attention more than once. And they were not busy until about the time we left. Also, the food runners are clueless. Just drop the food off in front of the wrong person every single time. If you don't know from the seating notes, then ask. Or put in middle of large table that only had two people. But every time just plopped it down in front of the wrong person. Irritating. Also, had an issue with the lighting. It was very very bright - like daytime or lights you leave on when you're cleaning. Totally ruined the atmosphere of these otherwise cool venue. I know it sounds hypercritical but I was asked to write this review, otherwise I would have skipped it. Plus, I love the place and want to make sure they stay on top of their game so they're around for a long time.
Was super bummed by our experience here. Both of our meals were very cold and disappointing. We were comped for the food but super disappointed.
Doc Crow’s never disappoints. The oysters are always delicious and the bbq is just great. And then there’s the bourbon. Oh the bourbon. If you like whiskey of any kind, this is the place for you. The service is always great and knowledgeable about whiskey. We come here every time we visit Louisville!
Always a great place to go for good food and bourbon before University of Louisville home games!
Food was great. Service was ok. They looked to be working short on help so that could have been part of the issue. Enormous bourbon list. Great location.
Our waitress seemed to not care about her job, and this led to one of the worst experiences we have had at a restaurant in a while. She was slow to bring out drinks first, and slow to refill. But she continued to walk around, visit other tables, and not look at us as she walked by. We are used to people checking on us after we receive our food to make sure we got everything we needed. I saw her look to see that we got our food, and turn around. She caused our food to be cold by the time she finally checked on us (my fiancé had to literally stop her again from walking part us) due to us missing toppings for the chicken sandwich and ketchup for my burger so that I could actually eat it. Also, he was missing his fries. She said it would be a few minutes on the sweet potato fries. She didn’t bring out the ketchup until she brought out the fries. About 20 minutes AFTER we initially received the food.
I wish we had the waiter behind us. It was a guy in a long sleeved red plaid shirt. He sounded AMAZING! He recommended items to his guest, offered advice if they wanted it, and was very attentive to their needs. He also checked in on his tables often.
We showed up for our reservation and they closed early “due to inclement weather” amd didn’t notify us. So a $33 Uber ride there for nothing.
Excellent place for pre game dining before a ball game. My favorite is the beef brisket, but everything I've had has been good. Service was excellent.
Ribs were very good, fall off the bone. Brisket and pulled pork also very tender.
Took Cindy for her birthday. We got there early and they got us seated in the bourbon room in about 10 minutes. We got our drinks then our oysters and then our meal. We decided to go ahead and get desert as well. It was very good.
Super unprofessional staff.
We went to the Bourbon Room before dinner and enjoyed the atmosphere and the drinks. Highly recommend stopping for a drink at the Bourbon Room. Doc Crow’s had a fun atmosphere but the food dis not stand out as anything special. Maybe we made poor menu selections.
We had the place mostly to ourselves and got extra special attention from the bourbon expert, John, who guided us through several selections of bourbon. It was a real treat! Will definitely go back.
Always a pleasure.
Loved Doc Crows. We really wanted good barbecue. The whole family loved it.
With the temperature being chilly outside, it was a bit chilly inside.
Josh our server was super nice and helpful. The food was good and drinks as well. Service was very quick!
Friendly service. Relaxed atmosphere. Great food. Incredible bourbon selection.
Loved the menu and the service
Our first time eating there. I did not disappoint. The pork BBQ was outstanding, and the cornbread was to die for!! My husband got the mile high nachos with brisket and pork and was enough for 4 people!
Our food was mediocre, and the service was terrible. It took a very long time to get our drinks and food even when we got up and went to the host stand to remind them we seem to have been overlooked. The restaurant didn't seem particularly busy or understaffed so it was unclear why everything took so long. A very disappointing experience overall.
It was very cold- we draped our coats over our legs-
Great food (I ordered smoke sampler!) and amazing variety of whiskies!
I appreciate the service and the portion size of the food given.
It was really crowded and pretty, even for a Sunday evening. Fortunately, we had a reservation, but it took a long time to get our food (short-staffed).
My husband and I went to Doc Crow’s on a date. We started on the bar side and sat at the bar - we got a few starters (crab cakes and fried okra) and drinks (hubby had neat pours and I got an old fashioned). The service, ambiance and drinks were an above average experience in our opinion. We migrated to the restaurant for dinner and wish we would’ve stayed at the bar. The restaurant was bright and didn’t have great ambiance. It was louder which was fine and the service wasn’t nearly as good. The food was great, however. We had shrimp and grits, a wedge salad, salmon, cookies and key lime pie. We will try something else for dinner next time but would gladly stop in for a drink at the bar again!
Incredible whiskey selection though with so much it can lead to confusion. Staff does a good job trying to keep everything straight. BBQ was excellent. Highly recommend
This place has more whiskies than you can count. Incredible tastes that you cannot find most places, some that you would actually need a time machine to enjoy... that said, its on Whisky Row so the pours are AT LEAST 2x what they are actually worth. Bring the charge card.
So delicious! We loved the BBQ pulled pork and St Louis ribs, the oysters and the shrimp and grits. The cocktails were excellent. Sequoia was also a great and attentive waitress.
It was very cold. We were sitting on the Bourbon room side. The waitress was nice but it took forever getting our drinks. We did not complain but she mentioned over and over again that the other side was really crowded and busy which was great but nonetheless we were waiting way too long for our drinks and then one person in our party was told they were out of a beer she had ordered and then had to wait even longer. Food was good.
Good food and service, Oysters were very fresh. Amazing Bourbon and Scotch list. We sat at the counter which was fun. My wife had a pulled Pork sandwich. I really enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits. We also liked our app of there home made chips and cheese spread.
This place can't make up its mind what it wants to be. They take reservations and offer a $2500 glass of bourbon, but the food is just okay, the lighting is awful (super bright!), and the employees walk around in raggy jeans and a hoodie? A big disappointment.
The bread pudding was the best ever! My son was very impressed with their bourbon selections
We had reservations but waited 20 minutes to sit then sat for 30 minutes with no one coming to bring menus or take a drink order. Waited another 15 minutes to get a drink. We sat along the wall where the Bourbons were on the shelf so constantly someone dragging a ladder over our table to get bottles. Said no tables were available from 5-7 but at least 1/2 the place was not seated at 6.
The bbq was average at best. Expensive place for very average food
Sure good and cold oysters !! The Casual Murder was wonderful.
The Oysters Rockefeller were so drowned in bechamel and cheese it was difficult to locate the oyster. The tomato bisque tasted like puréed tomatoes and barbecue sauce were the only ingredients, the grilled cheese with smoked Gouda was actually just Texas toast with a Kraft single inserted, mostly unmelted. The baby back ribs looked like they had been sitting under a warmer for the previous evening’s dinner. The Lima beans, which 10 years ago were my favorite thing about the restaurant, were undercooked, probably frozen from a bag, and topped with bacon bits. They somehow even managed to make the hush puppies bad, strangely both over and under cooked, gluey on the inside. The bourbon list is great though.
Very nice selection of spirits (bourbon, Japanese whiskey, scotch, etc.), including some very rare bottles, and the sampler (brisket, pulled pork, chicken) was reasonably priced. Brisket was dry, but pulled pork and chicken saved the meal and were excellent. Had a nice evening and would certainly stop in again if I’m in town 👍
Excellent food, service and drinks!!
