Anniversary. Used gift certificate 6 years old. Excellent Waitress Wine ‘Stewart’ Heather
Great romantic tasting menu. Fabulous wine pairings. Plenty of food. A taste here and a taste there, but the food keeps coming out. A bit more expensive than your everyday dinner, but worthy of the experience.
Incredible experience, lovely atmosphere, amazing food and perfect wine pairing! I definitely recommend it!
Overpriced food. They were flexible in accommodating dietary preferences but the noise level, the space, the ambiance all day this is not worth the money or the time. The staff were friendly. Overall, an average experience. I’ve had better food.
DOC put on a magnificent 6 course Valentine’s Day dinner that left my girlfriend absolutely speechless and feeling like royalty. I’ve eaten with them on multiple occasions and they’ve never failed to deliver incredible dishes with amazing wine pairings that you won’t find anywhere else in Portland. The quiet, intimate atmosphere is perfect for date nights.
Out of the six dishes we tried, we only found one of them to be impressive, which was a bit disappointing considering the price of the meal. The wine pairing was pretty amazing, though. And good service as well.
One of the most memorable meals we have ever had. Could well be the best restaurant in Portland, and that’s saying something!
DOC is an amazing culinary experience. We loved the wine pairing to go along with the 6 courses. Great food, beautiful ambiance.
The food and service was beyond incredible, and our server was very knowledgeable about the wine selection. The atmosphere and ambiance of DOC make for a perfect birthday dinner or date. They were also very accommodating for vegans!
We stumbled upon DOC looking for a restaurant near the airport on our way out of town. We expected a nice Italian meal. When the waitress told us they were known for their tasting menu dinners, we decided to go for it. While it took a little longer than we had planned on, it was definitely worth both the time and the money. She served us oysters and a very unusual but delicious soup, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. All were delicious, creative, and something we would have chosen had we ordered specific menu items. This is a restaurant to watch!
I will be returning in the near future. Really wonderful meal with attentive service.
We have eaten at DOC for years and have never had a bad meal or a bad course during the meal. The creativity of the chefs with local and seasonal foods always impresses us and our guests!
The wine pairings are spot on and offer such a wonderful complement to the tasting dinners. Heather was a delight.
Highly recommend to family and friends!
Can't say enough about the care given on a New Years Day. Thanks so much!
The meal was only alright, it cost me a couple hundred dollars, and I left still hungry. Very forgettable.
We ate at DOC for NYE. It wasn't our first time (in fact, we've been many times throughout the years), but it was the first time the wine service was subpar. We used to love the sommelier and looked forward to the pairing each time. On this occasion each wine was simply poured with little information about the winery, few tasting notes and no real connection to the food. It felt like an afterthought. A very expensive afterthought since each pairing cost as much as our dinner. On a positive note, the decor is lovely and the kitchen was very gracious in accommodating our dietary restrictions given that the menu was fixed. Overall, it was an "okay" experience for which we paid far, far too much.
Started out with server misleading us on the menu...that it was mandatory 6-courses, with no choices of items. We were told to keep flatware between a few courses and she poured wines without changing the stemware between some of the pairings. None of the food was outstanding, just good, therefore a poor value overall.
Great dining experience. Lacy did an excellent job serving up the decadent 6 course meal with the wine pairing. I prefer the earlier seating because it is usually less crowded . Not one bad course. It is a special treat with a talented kitchen crew. Thanks for an enjoyable evening.
My son and I throughly enjoyed dining here on Friday 12/28. We had the 6 course tasting menu: 1st course- bread with butter and olives and oysters, 2nd course- lemony roasted cauliflower and beet salad with goat cheese, supremes and hazel nuts, 3rd course- butternut squash risotto and pasta with a light meat tomato sauce, 4th course- duck confit and king salmon, 5th course- cheese plate, 6th course- walnut tart and
spice squash cake. There was more than enough food, we had 5 boxes to go. Everything was absolutely divine. They were able to accommodate my food allergy without any problems. Sean was a wonderful server. Highly recommend DOC. Grazie!
Been here on a date night before and brought my parents along this time. The ambience is still super fantastic- cozy and beautiful, like eating at a friends house if your friend just happened to be a great chef.
It's a small boutique restaurant with a twist. The menu text is right aligned, the kitchen is an open kitchen at the front and in the window where a reception desk would normally be located. The menu is small but all of the dishes are unique. We were a party of five and all our meals were outstanding. The portions are centered around the quality and the taste not bulk feeding :)
I would return and recommend.
I have eaten at DOC many times over the years, and I have felt it was among the best restaurants in Portland. Their food has always been creative and interesting. This is why my experience this past Sunday was so disappointing. Apparently they have only recently been serving Sunday dinners, and they offer a fixed three course meal that could then be supplemented with a la carte selections. The food was so mediocre that it was hard to believe it was the same restaurant. After an uninspiring opening course of a Kale Caesar salad, a pasta dish (chicken ragout) was served at a tepid temperature, with sauce that could be rivaled by supermarket offerings. The final course was a braised beef short ribs that was good but not of the exceptional quality I have come to expect from DOC. The three course meal took nearly two hours to serve, although the wait staff was, as usual, extremely courteous and professional. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing meal made all the more so by the fact I had brought out of town guests to DOC with the promise that it would be an exceptional experience. If this were the first time I had ever eaten at DOC, I would never go back. As it is, I may return for a non-Sunday dinner, but I would strongly caution serious foodies from going on a Sunday with the expectation that their experience would be acceptable.
Our server Heather was wonderful. She explained each dish and the wine serving she paired with it. The food had excellent taste and a fine presentation. The atmosphere was relaxed, romantic and comfortable.
It was ok, staff was lovely and very nice, food was well prepared and delivered timely, but not necessarily to my taste. Price was high for what was offered, in my opinion.
Creative, professional, excellent all around. Worth the splurge.
Wonderful ambience with sophisticated food and friendly servers who explain everything and make accommodations for food preferences.
Small portions, food was pretty mediocre for the steep price.
Friends in town
Food was underwhelming and non contextual
Meat dish was uninspiring , pastas were the best course
Desserts were overbearing
We went for the prix fix Sunday Supper, served family style. There were three courses plus bread (dessert extra). The dishes presented at our table were just barely enough for two. The problem was, there were four of us. The portions were pitifully small, and we are not big eaters. We could have ordered extra sides, but at $35 per person we expected an ample amount of food. After spending $267 including tip, we left hungry. It was embarrassing since we were hosting for a birthday. Ambiance, service, food were all good, but nothing spoils a dinner like not having enough to eat.
I really enjoyed our dinner with my girlfriend. Staff was so nice and friendly. Food is creative and tasty.
Food was excellent. It’s a very cute place. It was a little bit loud despite being cozy., probably more because of the echo rather than the general vibe they go for. Serving sizes were very small. Each shared course was similar in size to what another nice Italian restaurant might serve for one.
I have been to DOC several times but this was a disappointing visit, tasting menu was poor and only one of the first 6 plates (3 courses) was memorable - the pasta with mushroom. Main course, salmon was good, flatiron with smoked vegetables was almost inedible, the vegetables were so over smoked they were charred and left a bitter and lasting aftertaste. Given the cost of eating here I will be slow to return as there are so many similarly priced alternatives in Portland area where I'd have a higher confidence of a dependably good meal. (We did let the wait staff know about our view on the flatiron dish and they said they would let the chef know....).
Great place go every year for anaversary recommend to everyone
the food was excellent but the restaurant was empty except for one other table and our table was scolded for being too loud. honestly that one interaction kinda colored the whole experience for us. we were a table of 6 and by no means were we roudy or drunk or anything like that, just talking and laughing and trying to enjoy our long expensive meal. you’d think that when you are at a small restaurant for a nice occasion and having a 6 course meal there would be some allowance for jovial conversation. No one was yelling or inappropriate in any way and when we were asked to be quiet it felt really surprising and inappropriate and made us all want to leave.. don’t go there i’d you think you might have fun 😮
The best food and wine I've ever encountered, over and over again. The service is exactly where it should be: very present but not intrusive.
I'm not knowledgeable about wine, but at every visit the wine pairings make me say, "I never knew wine could taste like this!"
I'm definitely a DOC groupie. Definitely worth the money for the tasting menu and wine pairing.
Everything was delightful from the moment we entered. The lighting and music created a warm atmosphere, the service was thoughtful and attentive, and the food was absolutely amazing. Each dish was original, yet comforting, and expertly crafted. We're happy to have found such a gem - will be back!
Amazing. The way they do the tasting menu is fabulous, when the whole table orders the tasting menu, no two dishes are the same! All places should do this...especially with food this good.
Super impressed with the venue and the generous servings of really delicious food. Being practically in the kitchen you really get the sense they are doing it for you
A simply perfect meal. I've been to DOC before for business and was excited to come back for an anniversary dinner with my husband. An extraordinary meal. The quality of the food, the presentation, the combination of flavors and textures--everything was so happy-making. I look forward to our next visit.
