   Disappointing. Took my mother in law for a belated Mother’s Day, the initial greeting was fine however we were shown through the nicely laid out restaurant to a tired room at the back which was not set up and had no atmosphere at all. We weren’t asked if we would like anything other than tea or coffee, we assumed this may be asked later, it wasn’t. No hot water served with the tea (bags). The food was ok, but the staff changed and the service was atrocious from that point. No smile, too busy standing talking in the kitchen to check on people, had to go and ask for a box then the bill. We asked to take away the remaining cakes and were given 3 take away sandwich boxes, what kind of establishment that serves afternoon tea doesn’t have suitable boxes ready? No goodbye, the waitress was too busy standing chatting and the reception staff too busy on their mobiles. Abysmal won’t be going back.

   Terrible service from the moment we walked in the door. Food was awful and very poor value for money.

   Afternoon tea was served in one of the lounge areas rather than the restaurant. It was very relaxed and pleasant. Sandwiches very fresh, scones warm. Everything was very tasty.

   Very disappointed with whole experience. I booked in advance and also communicated with hotel via email to which they replied so I know messages were received and read. We were a party of four, one of whom is in a motorised wheelchair and needs a quiet area which they knew about. I arrived early to ensure all was set up- couldn’t be further from truth. The advertised room ‘The Dobson Restaurant’ was full with a noisy conference lunch so we were being put just outside in a casual seating area. It was too noisy so we then were taken to cocktail bar as further from conference, however the seats were low and tables high and we had to push two small round tables together to house the afternoon tea. We couldn’t see each other over the tea/coffee pots and cake stands, my friend in the wheelchair towered above everyone else. We had to have our plates on our lap but stand up to pour the tea or coffee. There was music playing which we asked to be turned down. So the set up was not as advertised or expected and they had plenty of opportunities to tell us that we would not be in the usual restaurant and we could have gone the following day instead. The food was nothing special, mass produced cakes and average sandwiches and a plain and fruit scone each. For £90 for 4 people it was nothing special which was what we hoped, we have all had better elsewhere for a similar or lower price. If it had been in the correct location and they had prepared in advance a space for our disabled guest we would have been much happier. But still expensive for what it was, we would not recommend.
