Great service and great food
Unusual menu, but everything was excellent. Terrific& friendly service. Comfy setting.
Nice place for dinner- went for a ladies night and had a great time!
Woody our server was excellent and very patient with our party of 5 adults and 6 kids. We had a table next to the wine cellar which worked out great for our large party as we were the only guests in that space. The fried chicken is out of this world and the servings are very generous.
An impeccable dining experience. All of the food courses were flawless and the cocktails were unique and delicious. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Despite telling our server we couldn't linger as we were attending the theatre, the meal never felt rushed.
Many tables, spaced closely together, a real Manhattan dining experience.
Good place to go before the theater. Not so good if you really want to talk to one another, as the noise level is definitely energetic! Interesting menu. Delicious drinks. Amazing Brussels sprout appetizer. Good soup. Fettucini was tasty, but way over sauced. And delicious desserts. Nice wait staff.
the restaurant was very accommodating when we added a person to our party. We had a time constraint and they worked easily around it. The food was delicious.
Dobbs Ferry consistently delivers delicious dinner selections and outstanding service. A must visit for a Hayes Valley dining destination.
It was a great start to the evening, with a wonderful meal before the symphony concert.
Brunch menu was limited but tasty, service excellent. Good place for kids before matinee at symphony or opera or ballet
Wonderful service, great food, perfect for group gatherings!
All Staff Members were Warmly Hospitable; Food Beautifully-presented as well as Delicious.
Good place to go before the opera, great food and service
Great place for pre-concert brunch. My wife had the fried chicken and waffle main dish; I had the pork sandwich. Both were generously portioned and well-flavored.
Nice and quiet inside. Clean classic decor. Food was classic American fare. My husband ordered the fried chicken. I couldn’t find anything on the menu for my vegan diet so they created something special for me. It was delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive. Cocktails on point. Overall a great experience. It was warm and quiet. I could hear my husband talking to me without having to speak louder than normal. Only thing I would improve is the cleanliness of the bathroom. The bathrooms are shared with the sports bar and the one I went into was a little messy.
While the food was fine - the table next to us was clearly a friend of the owner and his wife - they spent practically our entire meal chatting with each other in VERY loud voices with their back to us and bumping into our table, never excusing themselves, etc. It was hard for us to carry on a conversation at our table. The fact that they were completely oblivious and the fact they were either the managers or owners made it all the more annoying. I won't say we won't be back, but if the owners have a "special" guest they are going to fawn over - perhaps put them in a secluded area and not next to regular guests.
The food is always good at Dobbs Ferry and it was nice to know there was no change in the quality after the change of ownership.
I've eaten at Dobbs Ferry several times before shows and always been thrilled.
Five of us arrived at 5:50 and had to leave by 7:30. Waiter brought menus and water, disappeared for 20 minutes before we could order drinks. Looked like he was overworked and understaffed. At 6:20 we ordered appetizers and entrees at one time and explained that we had to leave by 7:30. Plenty of time. Cold and hot appetizers and entrees all arrived together crowding the table. By the time I got to the hot food they were lukewarm and congealed.
We ordered dessert. One item came right away and at 7:25 the other two arrived. The hostess comped us the desserts.
We were dining here as a pre-show dinner.
There were five of us gals and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We had steak, tuna, squash risotto, salads, trout peroggis, and mashed potato side. They let us substitute mashed potatoes for veg side.
Very attentive service and they kept us to our schedule to be on time to the show.
It was so nice that they let us each have our own check. One person had an entree and no drinks. Another had wine, salad and entree. Splitting it evenly doesn’t make sense and I just hate discussing who owes what at the end of a nice meal.
Very good experience and we’ll be back.
Sunday night was quiet and had a room to ourselves.
Food is always great
We enjoyed the brunch menu. The food was definitely comfort food. We we having a late first meal and were hungry and left satisfied.
Waitress forgot 7 year old's lunch. Not good. She had to wait while others ate and that's not good for 7 year olds. On the other hand, restaurant was kindly accommodating in creating 3 different checks for the 8 of us.
Great place for pre-opera brunch on Sunday morning. Waitstaff was understanding of opera timing and got our food and check to us quickly.
Absolutely a gourmet dining experience !!!! The chef was incredible and the waitress was delightful !!!
Small menu but everything is well executed. We especially recommend the chicken liver pate, and the Manhattan clam chowder. Servers are attentive, and prices are lower than other restaurants in the neighborhood offering similar quality. This is our favorite pre-opera restaurant.
truly enjoyed our experience and our food. At first, we worried about the limited menu items since we are watching or food intake, however, we were both pleased with our selections
Fabulous dinner and conversation with local family!
Not much difference from our last review. Very convenient to the Symphony Hall and the Opera House. Food is delicious with generous portions (they are happy to split an order for two to share.) Service was excellent! Definitely a go-to place if you are in the neighborhood.
Odd.....main dishes come with starch and meat, no vegetable. For example their roasted chicken was meat and mashed potatoes.......not a colorful, inviting plate plate.
Our go-to restaurant for dining with friends. Not only is the food very good and generous, the cocktails are top-notch, and Dobbs Ferry has one of the few comfortable dining rooms in the City, where one can actually carry on a conversation. The staff are always professional and welcoming.
Excellent food and our server was amazing. She knew we were going to a show and kept us on track and out the door on time.
Some of our dishes were quite delicious (the tuna, the donut holes for dessert), but others were just okay. And the wedge salad was pitiful - small, wilted lettuce, and sour dressing. It was incredibly sub-par, and I can't imagine any Bay Area chef sending that dish out to a customer.
There was a huge difference in the portion sizes, so that some in our group were still hungry after appetizers and a main.
Dobbs Ferry has a nice atmosphere and has been consistently good in the past, but this visit was disappointing.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the service is a bit slow. As long as you are not in a hurry to make a show time, it's fine. The food was good but arrived as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp fo a while, lukewarm food but hot plate. I loved that many dishes were sized for sharing.
We arrived early for our reservation and were accommodated which was very nice. The food was good but not fabulous. We felt a bit rushed by our server despite the restaurant not being busy at all. The cannoli dessert was the best. Not too sweet and good crispness to the shell.
Not particularly outstanding. Nice place, service was slow. We went right after the opera so I expected a crowd. Food delivery was slow, starter came quickly but the mains took a while. No one came to refresh our wine glasses. Food was good not amazing. I had the fettuccine with meatballs, there was a big chunk of pork just floating in the sauce. I understand the meatballs were pork/beef but this was weird to have a piece of the pork not in the actual meatball. Again, the food was good but not really worth going back for.
The brunch menu is limited; had I felt able to rearrange some of the combinations (substitute bacon for fried chicken with the waffles, for example) I would have been more satisfied, but no one suggested that. My companion had a spicy bloody mary, which was delicious, and her tea and my coffee were just right. We split an "appetizer" of 4 "ricotta donut holes" which were rich. We both had the Eggs Benedict -- the only option, really, given the other combinations -- which were so out of balance with excessive fat that we did not finish them. Instead of Canadian bacon (relatively low fat), the chef "complemented" the already rich poached eggs and holondaise sauce with bacon so fatty as to seem to be like a pork belly cut. A whole wheat (?) muffin was okay.
The food was delicious! Service was a little slow but it did not bother us. Server was very friendly and efficient.
The squid ink pasta was outstanding (I'd get 2 next time and make it an entree), along with several other smaller plates. But, the vanilla ice cream was grainy and clearly suffered from being in the freezer too long, ending the meal on a sour note.
This is our second visit. Very convenient, goof glutton free options. Nice service. very convenient to the opera house. Good food and reasonable prices
Very good food at reasonable prices ... perhaps not including wine prices.
