New owner surely isn't paying attention to this formerly fabulously-run restaurant. So sorry to see this happen. Owners need to give this place their undivided attention and rely on the amazing staff to guide their hand. There are a lot of great spots in the neighborhood to frequent before a show that it will be easy to venture someplace else if the changed vibe persist.

Great place for pre concert dinner, food is OK as opposed to outstanding, but the place is mellow, not pretentious, very relaxed and comfortable....

Great place! staff is very friendly and helpful. Made sure we got out on time for the show we were going to and didn't feel rushed. The food was delicious. We enjoyed cocktails, appetizer "Bites", Three of us had the Chicken Scarpariello and ate it all and would get it again! #4 had the pasta and loved it. We savored a nice bottle of wine from their wine list. A wonderful evening and already planning on a return trip!

Our 3rd time here and also our last. The food is wonderful. Our foursome had a burger, duck, ravioli and halibut. We were all happy with food and service. so why won't we be back? We get home and see that we were charged a $20.00 corkage fee on an already overpriced bottle of wine we ordered. If we had brought our own bottle, it would be ok. This just felt like an underhanded, disrespectful trick. Now we can't recommend this restaurant.

We ate at Dobbs Ferry before going to a New Years Eve event. The food is delicious and menu varied. The service was very attentive. We were taken care of with plenty of time to make it to our other event on time, without feeling at all rushed. We definitely will be back.

Dobbs Ferry is a neighborhood gem. Nice hidden jewel in a sea of restaurants in San Francisco.

Overall, a mediocre experience. The food left much to be desired and the service from the bar was slow. The service was probably the best part, but because the menu is so limited and the food that does come out isn't very good, I wouldn't go back to this place or recommend it to others.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service. Reviews were solid, but mixed. Our experience was good from the moment we sat down until we left to the ballet. Waiter asked right off if we had a performance, we did. Appetizers (we got three to share - beet salad, arancini, and goat cheese fondue) were delicious and the right size. Perfect for a group of 4. All entrees were also excellent (raviolli, meatballs and pasta, pork, halibut). Service went along at a perfect clip, so we got dessert. Apple hot pockets and brownies were a hit. We have eaten at lots of places prior to the ballet or opera and this will be our new go to. The combination of service, food and reasonable price for the area can't be beat.

Family dinner before the ballet. Quite disappointed that the waitress was obviously very sick with a cold. The table next to us she ended up having a coughing fit and had to leave an get water.

Kind of ruined the whole experience.

What an amazing pre-ballet dinner with my 9 year old niece. The children’s menu is wonderful! The seasonal pumpkin soup was silky and sumptuous. Waiter was attentive and mindful of our 7 pm start time. Special little touches like four cherries in the Shirley Temple and of course the soft serve with endless fantasy toppings —- yummy! Such a special start to our fantastic birthday celebration. Pasta to die for. Highly recommended!

Very disappointing lunch. We waited more than 1 hour for our food (sandwiches, salads) with multiple assurances "it's on the way out". When the meals finally arrived, the first ones were served 7 minutes before the last ones came. Never got ice tea refills. Some salad ingredients were missing.

Service was very nice, not very crowded. Of the four of us, everyone's food was okay, just okay, rather bland. Been there once before and thought it was very good and was eager to go again. Now I think I'll try a new one next time.

A girlfriend and I took our four kids here prior to seeing the Nutcracker. We all had great meals and the service was fantastic. You know it's a hit when children and adults are all happy! We loved the cured salmon, arancini, beet ravioli, scallops and tagliatelle especially.

I dine here fairly often and hence, I consistently find the food and staff of high quality . Very dependable for timing your meal if your post theater/jazz/Nourse, etc. Menu changes enough that there are go to's to revisit and also new additions. It's also very pleasant to have a quiet conversation with friends and don't have to yell to be heard across the table.

Everything was just delicious and the service person was knowledgeable, smart, and friendly. The only problem was my martini...wayyyyyy too much vermouth. The lady at the next table had the same problem and returned hers. Overall, the place is great and not too crowded in the Hayes Valley area.

I did not enjoy my two course dinner at Dobb’s Ferry. The split pea soup was very watery with small pieces of bacon fat floating in the soup and the Halibut had a very mushy texture and didn’t taste good. I decided not to have dessert after my experience with the first two courses.

Hot Neighborhood with several dinning options. Dobbs Ferry fits in well. Not over the edge.
Going to Opera, Ballet , etc in area, a must for service. Service that is not rushed but lets you get to the show on time. Good food, excellent service.

or just stop in for dinner if you are in the neighborhood with no place to go.

We've been here before for Happy Hour and enjoyed the ambiance. We decided to come back to try the restaurant. We weren't disappointed. We were dining early to go to the opera, so the noise level was delightfully quiet - only a few other tables were occupied. We had the house salad and pasta - tagliatelle with garlic shrimp. The salad was crisp and fresh with a tangy dressing. The pasta was fresh with a light sauce that enhanced the shrimp, spinach and pasta. For dessert we enjoyed delicious soft-serve vanilla ice cream with our choice of 3 toppings. We should have had triple of the home-made chocolate sauce and eliminated the other 2 toppings. All in all we had a wonderful evening.

Met friends for dinner in San Francisco at Dobbs Ferry. I had been there before as it’s in the Hayes Valley neighborhood, close to the opera house. Food ok, service should have been better. Also, quite noisy as many at the bar were watching Monday Night Football on tv.

The waitress went out of her way to make surer the orders from our smaller group got in ahead of those of two large tables traveling as a group.

We appreciated the concern and attentiveness.

We enjoyed our lunch and thought the menu had a good range of veggie, brunch items (two waffle dishes!) and just solid sandwiches.

My friend and I love this restaurant, so much that we call it "our place" when referring to it. It can be your place too. I have been here at least 8 times and it never fails to please. Our most recent visit was before a matinee at War Memorial Opera House for brunch. We enjoyed the chilaquiles and they were best I have ever had. The homemade chips and the rojo sauce were the perfect compliment to their homemade chorizo - I wanted to lick my plate. Serving sizes are reasonable, not huge, just perfect, leaving room for dessert. At the suggestion of our server I had the apple pie turnover with their homemade soft serve ice cream and caramel sauce and it didn't fail me. My friend enjoyed their cheesecake from which I stole a bite and it was light, creamy and delightful. The service is always incredible, attentive but not too attentive and always with a smile. Whenever I get a chance I recommend this dining spot. Reasonable prices, eclectic, interesting and incredible food and wonderful service. Their menu is always changing (please bring back your burrata and bacon sandwich) so you'll never get tired of this eatery. I've already made my reservations for my next visit.

This was our 2nd visit to Dobbs Ferry and it was so different than our first visit - a complete disappointment. The host acted like we were interrupting his busy night when we checked in early for our reservation. Not the greeting we expected. He then took us to a terrible table when the reastaurant was 80% empty! We had to plead to get a decent table. It just went downhill from there. The waiter was slow to take our order, never checked back (missed opportunity to get another glass of wine). The food had obviously been sitting admit was lukewarm when delivered. Our first visit last year was fantastic - 2nd time and last time was terrible. If you want a quick drink this place is fine but avoid having dinner here!

We eat here often before shows. The service is unfailingly good: efficient, friendly, accommodating. The menu offers a variety of interesting, well-conceived dishes and the food is well-prepared. Most recently, I had the arancini appetizer and the duck leg. The arancini were fried perfectly - crisp on the outside, meltingly creamy on the inside - and served with a wonderful light sauce faintly flavored with anchovy. The duck was also perfectly done, flavorful, tender and moist beneath a fairly crisp skin. My friend had the halibut, which she liked very much, and particularly appreciated the kitchen's flexibility in substituting it's sweet potato hash for the side the dish came with.
