If you are in Civic Center for a show, this is a good place to come before. Food is good, not fancy or unusual but solid. Portions are a good size. Service was friendly & helpful. Space is comfortable. Three had the seafood Gratin special, one had the chicken. All enjoyed their entrees. Salads were good. Chicken pate was tasty. Stopped for the soft serve "ice cream" after the show, this was tasty.

Horrible traffic made us an hour late but they still held our seats at the bar (we did make a point of calling.) Service was attentive as usual with the drinks made by Victoria spot on.

We enjoyed our dinner at Dobbs Ferry. Both the service and food were good and the staff was courteous. We have visited this restaurant several times prior to attending the symphony and its always a pleasure.

A favorite place to visit before a performance at the nearby Opera House, Herbst Theater, or Davies Symphony Hall. As usual, because they are very busy at this time, it can be a challenge to get the check so you can pay and leave. Otherwise, the place runs very well with your orders arriving at a reasonable pace. In short, you don't feel rushed.

I was delighted with Dobbs. Had not eaten there before tho walked by many, many times, on my way to City Arts and Lectures talks. The maitré d greeted me with my name
(never happens) because he'd memorized the names of the upcoming reservations I guess....no other way he'd know. That was quite charming. Our server was attentive
without hovering and the food came quickly and was delicious. This may be my new favorite place in town!

Came to this restaurant based on the reviews and was disappointed with my dinner, Had the special pork shoulder and split pea soup. The soup was the most disappointing, wondered if there were any split peas and the chunks of ham just didn't cut it for me. The pork shoulder were thin slices of pork that looked like ham. Very disappointing. But my friend had the spaghetti and meatballs which was very good.

Dobbs is on my regular rotation and a top pick any time I need some comfort food in Hayes Valley. It's easy to get a table here, the restaurant is centrally located, service is good, and the menu is reliable. Try the pork, the pasta and the pate!

Surprised that this restaurant has such high reviews. It is decent... 3 stars at best. The food was tasty, the service was not so great, and the prices were high for the quality of the meal.

Comment regarding OpenTable as it relates to restaurant: I had to look for a few different times for a reservation. Open times kept fluctuating. I had to settle on a later time as most reservations were booked. We got there 30 minutes early and the place was empty. Not sure why OpenTable showed no availability. We were seated right away so we were ahead of schedule for our event but needed to search for something else to do. Not a big deal but definitely a lack of communication between OT and the restaurant.
The restaurant: A neat little neighborhood gem. The bar and front room is vibrant but you sit close together so your experience is effected by those around you. The back room is nice but it loses the open / street scene the front room provides. Our service was good however it looked like the host and waitstaff were wearing many hats which gave the feeling of an under-managed work place. Food and drink were good. Prices are about average. Would go back if I had an event in the area but wouldn't be on top of the list.

My husband and I had dinner here before the symphony last night and it was really fabulous! We each started with interesting cocktails: mine was a grapefruit/ rum concoction and his was a Limoncello-Prosecco-based drink and both were very delicious. I had a wonderful starter with prosciutto on a bed of julienned pears and Belgian Endive and fresh basil. My husband enjoyed their bacon-y split pea soup. He had their beautiful scallops over risotto and my entree was their fresh pappardelle with a rich, meaty tomato sauce. I enjoyed a great glass of Zinfandel with my pasta. It was heavenly! Service was very good and the ambiance was cozy. I highly recommend Dobbs Ferry. Their prices are not outlandish by San Francisco standards and portions are generous. You will not be disappointed!

We have frequented Dobbs Landing since shortly after it opened, and before it the Blue Muse, as we like the location, prices are reasonable, and the main dining room has a nice feel and is usually quieter than many restaurants, so we can talk without shouting. But this time there was a large group occupying several tables in the main dining room (with toasts and such) -- the hostess wisely warned us, and we opted for the front. But it was noisy and busy as is usual -- so we were disappointed. There are several restaurants in the neighborhood with "party rooms" which could easily handle such a group without impacting other diners -- to bad that the group was not referred to one of them. The service was fine, and the food was good, so we were happy with the meal overall. Next time I will make the reservation by phone and ask about the circumstances.

Our party of four shared quinoa salad, broiled cauliflower and brussel sprouts and entrees of rigatoni , chicken and bass. We were so stuffed we had no room for dessert. Total bill was $176 including tip and well worth it. Excellent food, prompt and attentive service.

We tried something different this time (we are regulars at DFerry):
We ordered two starters, the house salad, very nice, and the split pea soup, excellent.
Then we had three appetizers instead of main courses: Chicken liver paté, superb and wonderfully smooth; house-cured salmon, very nice, and the Burrata, great texture, but a bit on the bland side. However, it was a very satisfying meal, and of course we'll be back. 'Tis one of our favorites in the Davies Symph. Hall area, and a fine prelude to a concert.

Sunday brunch has a very creative and delicious menu. Our group of four had several different entrees, and we loved them all. The service is always attentive, and they always ask if we're going to a performance (very good thing to ask). The only bothersome thing this time was the noise level. It seemed much higher than our previous visits. Otherwise we enjoyed our brunch. We always enjoy eating here!

Great restaurant. Wonderful service. Water glasses filled every 10 minutes. Portions very large. Food less flavorful than would have expected but good nonetheless. Spicy is not a word would use for the entrees we had (sea bass and pork leg). Wine list by the glass OK but not very large. Dessert menu looked good but didn't try it. Bar and front of restaurant extremely noisy, but not so in the back part. Very attentive to whether headed to opera, symphony or whatever. Will definitely return and recommend to others. Prices not cheap but not unreasonable. $100 for two with glass of wine. About par for SF.

We went for brunch because it was near where we were seeing a show. Our usual nearby favorite was booked. Having noticed Dobbs Ferry prior, we thought we'd give it a try. At 12 noon on a Sunday, they were out of a key brunch item that we wanted to order. Service was slow and a latte we ordered --and asked about several times, arrived as we were finishing our meal. Scrambled eggs were fine and the biscuit was adequate, --nothing special. I might give this place another try and order specialty brunch items to see if that ups the if the overall experience. Otherwise ho-hum.

Our first time at the restaurant. We were there for dinner.

The food was fresh and well-prepared. Recommend the split-pea soup, the house salad, the pappardelle and the bass. The roasted corn side was excellent.

Not the typical dessert menu but interesting nonetheless. We had the cannoli and it was good.

Our server was helpful and prompt.

I'm sure we'll be back when we're in the area.

The bar did not hav mint and thus couldn't make a mojito. I ordered a dessert wine which was on the wine list but the bar keep couldn't find any. The veggie patty could use some improvement. Maybe we'll go somewhere else next time.

We were going to a concert at the Symphony Hall and wanted a restaurant nearby.
We chose Dobbs Ferry after reading the great reviews and were not disappointed. The service was good and they asked when we arrived if we were going to a performance so there was no rush at the end. The menu was interesting and the food delicious, but very rich. Good choice of wines. Made a great start to a great evening.

I went for the first time to Dobbs Ferry before going to the theater, accompanied by my wife and sister-in-law. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. I had the pork loin and my companions has the sea-bass, which both were perfectly cooked. These dishes could easily be dry if overcooked, but they were nicely done and juicy. Service was efficient, but could have been a little more attentive. I would certainly recommend Dobbs ferry for pre-theater dining.
