Do Hwa Ratings and Reviews
Not a good experience at Do Hwa. We had a reservation for 11 people. Everyone was there about 5 minutes before reservation time, told they were “getting the table ready”. Ok, we wait at the small bar and get some drinks. 20 minutes later, I ask again. Still “getting the table ready.” Mind you, there are probably 25% of the tables in the restaurant open and our whole party is there. We ended up being seated 35 minutes after our reservation for no reason. Should have known from that point service would be horrible. After finally taking our orders, our food came out fairly quick and was really quite good. Lots of complex flavors and good options. But at our side of the table, we ordered the dinner for 4 and only received 2 of the 4 ordered plates. Waiter NEVER came back after taking our order. Literally, just disappeared. Bussers brought the food out and that’s all we saw. No more asking for more drinks or anything. When we were finally just ready to get out of there, we asked FOUR different people to bring our check. Finally got up and went to the bar and asked there and someone brought it by.
It’s too bad this place is staffed by a bunch of horrible servers and hostesses because the kitchen obviously knows what they are doing. Would not go back and wouldn’t recommend.
I was so looking forward to eating here after having dinner at so many ktown restaurants. We were expecting a new take on Korean food, but we didn't get that. Service is very hands off, only halfway through our meal did they collect the empty plates from the appetizers. I don't think they ever came around to ask how we were doing until we were done. Pancakes were greasy, soup was ok, bibimbop was standard fare. They skimp on the Korean side dishes. For the price, this is not an exceptional meal I'm sorry to say. The restaurant is very nicely decorated.
The redyaurant itself is a dark barn. The waitstaff is eccelkent. My server explained everything to me and all the condiments and how to eat the Bimbop once it was brought to the table. I requested a mild spiciness and they complied. I had the bbq pork Bimbop. Although it was delicious, I dont think it eas worth the price. For dessert I had the begniets. They were iverly dresses with way too much powdered sugar. I walked out with powdered sugar all over me. The raspberry sauce it came with was delicious. I doubt I would come back as the ambience and value factors are low here.
I've been here to eat multiple times and the experience was really terrible this particular time. The noise level was extremely loud so hard to have a conversation. The waitress messed up the order and didn't feel the need to apologize. We didn't get the starters that come with the BBQ until we asked for it. The tip was already included which was not appreciated.
Previous visits have always had excellent food but sub standard service. The latest visit we were told upon arrival that our (long reserved) table would only be ready in 45 minutes. After 30 minutes with little to no communication from the staff or manager, we were told that it would be at least half an hour and even that wasn't guaranteed. It seems that they have a pattern of being understaffed, undertrained and disorganized.
We had an 8:30pm reservation for 4. We finally got the table at 9:20 with only 3 chairs! Had to wait another 10 minutes for them to find us a chair! The food is interesting. We felt there was no need for dessert because there was already too much sugar in the beef.
Enjoyed the dining experience. Ordered the kimchi pancakes for an appetizer which were very good and came with awesome little side dishes of various tasty small plates of kimchi, pickles, broccoli etc. Ordered the tofu bibimbap as an entree, very tasty! Pricing is reasonable and worth the visit.
Excellent experience. Waitress was very helpful in selecting dishes from the menu. Everything came out promptly and all was delicious. One of our group was knowledgeable about Korean food and surprised at its authenticity. The spiciness of everything was just as our waitress said it would be. Overall, a really good and fun meal.
It was my birthday. The gentleman named Jose was a gentleman indeed. He showed us how to cook our food and told us about the different side dishes to come. This was my first time my friend and I ate Korean food. It was delicious. They made me feel at home by really celebrating my birthday. Thank you guys.
I like this restaurant because you can bring a nice sized group ( we had five) and grill your dinner at your table. It's a unique experience and the food is delicious. We brought three friends from France here and cooked Kalbi and Bulgogi, which was my favorite - well marinated and delicious. I also liked all the little veggies you get with this dish.
The waiter was great and he showed us some tricks for grilling our food. We also arrived just before happy hour ended so we got some great drinks at good prices.
First of all the servers were super friendly, welcoming, and helped with understanding the menu, and gave choices as we were beginners. The food was amazing, the starters could be more exciting, but I can't really tell other than that we chose steamed dumplings and they were okay. The meat on the other hand was AMAZING. We told the server we were in a hurry, and he helped cook the food right there. You could do it yourself also. The desert was SOOOO good. We chose the ice cream choice as the server suggested, DAMN that was good. We loved it both my husband and I. We're definitely going there again.
For anyone unfamiliar with Korea food this is the place for your introduction. Food is delicious, fresh and the staff is helpful if you want an explanation or a suggestion for food. I have never been disappointed and neither have the friends I have introduced to Do Hwa.
Good Korean food outside of Koreatown. The four of us shared the "Menu for Four" which was really a hearty tasting menu. My only quibble is the bottle of soju was a bit on the small side. Otherwise, we enjoyed every bite and then burned off a few calories by walking around the scenic neighborhood.
