   My boyfriend and I went for Dine Out Vancouver. Overall, we had a positive experience. We both had the turmeric and dill black cod for our entree which was delicious. The rest of the dishes were good but not all that memorable. We weren’t too impressed with the desserts. They were very light in flavour. The service was great. The servers were friendly and attentive. We also liked the environment and ambience, casual and modern.

   Ridiculously long wait time for server to tend to patrons. Several tables were actively waving for attention. Table next to us finally had to stand up to ask server to bring his meal, which had been waiting on the kitchen bar for quite some time. I’m sure his food was cold. Ironically, when server did come by the tables she was anxious to take away plates even though it was obvious that people were still eating.

   My hubby and I have been to House Special over 10 - 15 times over the years. Usually we had a great time, and at times it was a hit and miss regarding to the consistence of the food. We along with our friend who celebrated his birthday were glad to see the quality of food this time was great, and we noticed a change on the staff on the floor and a bit in the kitchen. Please keep up the great work, and I even told the female server who appeared to be the manager about it. Thanks for the complimentary pandan ice cream for the birthday boy. Thanks and I wish House Special success into the future!

   Enjoyed the food flavours. Portions for entrees are not super large but it was delicious. Service was friendly; however the server didn’t offer water to me and I had to ask a couple of times. The ducked fried bread and the papaya salad was super delicious. I would get the chicken shredded next time. Prices aren’t cheap compared to other Vietnamese places...but it’s yaletown prices so it’s understandable. I would come back again if I’m in the area.

   Nice Patio. Delicious Pho. Smaller portions (except for the pho) and higher prices than a lot of other Vietnamese restaurants, but the quality and the taste of the dishes make up for it.
