Ditka's Restaurant - Wexford Ratings and Reviews
Had a 7:30 reservation and was served our main course at 9 PM! We went for the local restaurant week special. Management seemed annoyed when I asked to substitute a salad (admittedly the special was a set menu), but then they proceeded to run out of THREE "set" menu items. The manager blamed food and service issues on the "special event". We were offered coffee, but the manager did not seem concerned about our experience. Basically, we got the impression that we were more of a nuisance than a real customer . Whether I was there for a "restaurant week" special or a business dinner (which I am a lot!!), I expect good service and food from this upscale establishment. Disappointed.
Thanks for being part of Restaurant Week! We loved the restaurant. The meals offered were absolutely delicious! Our server and the support servers were professional and just right. Even though it was very crowded, it was acoustically intimate. Lately I've noticed so many places blast music over the noise of people talking in restaurants that are not designed to absorb the cacophony. We were able to talk quietly and hear each other easily. Thanks for that! i look forward to coming back soon!
I am not one to complain and appreciate wait staff as I was one... BUT this was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant!
The waitress basically was to busy to serve us, stop and check on us, refill drinks or remove dishes from the table
She offered suggests from the menu... such as our fries are great wit malt vinegar... food was delivered - we asked for the malt and she never returned
At 6:30 we sat
Order was taken promptly
My husband received his salad in about 10 mins
I ordered an appetizer as a meal - she specifically ask “as a meal” I respond yes please bring out with the meal
At 7:20 pm (almost on hour later) She brought my meal out sat it in front of me and said everything else will be out in a minute
Waiting 5 mins ... 10 mins ... 15 minutes
As I stare at my food... getting more angry as it gets cold,no one returns, checks or updates on the delay
Stirring there waiting watching g people who came after us with other servers promptly receive course after course - complete meals - and we had one getting colder by the minute
I sat there staring at the pathetic pieces of toast cover in a slice of deli cheese ... bruschetta?
We have now been there one hour - seen our waitress twice ... I have a meal sitting in front of me ... no one else does - I went and asked for the manger as we were going to leave but did not want to walk out on the check -
20 minutes later my families food arrived - cold, and underwhelming
They forgot my husbands fries - when brought they were cold and soggy anyway -
no more drinks ... freezing cold meals and she NEVER came back...we had no malt vinegar, ketchup, refills
No on cared our meal was cold or our experience was poor ...
The manager arrived after our food - he was kind, nice and attempted to perform service recovery.., but it was too late
The food was average at best and highly over priced
It was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant
Our evening started with a wonderfully attentive server named Chuck. His service was great throughout the evening. We were there for a special family event. We had a party of 5 and the dinners ordered included the crab cakes, three different sizes/kinds of steak, and a lobster ravioli. I had the wedge salad which was great. Each of the dinners was truly delicious! The steaks were perfectly cooked. The crab cake was pretty much all delicious crab (no filler). The lobster ravioli had a wonderful sauce accompaniment. As sides, we ordered the burgundy mushrooms (YUM!) and french fries. We tried two of the wines (an unoaked chardonnay - Sisters Forever - that was great and a red... I can't remember the name of it....but it was very good). Overall a little pricey for Pittsburgh but a wonderful dining experience. We ended the meal with a delicious chocolate cake that was big enough to share. Delicious dining experience.
Christmas eve dinner, so there was a limited menu.
We ordered 2 wedge salads that were nicely presented and tasted great.
My dinner was ordered as crab cakes and baked potato. Our server returned to
advise us that they were out of carb cakes, so I subbed a strip steak.
Our server returned a second time to advise us that they were out of baked potato.
Oh well. Steak was OK, nothing special. Could have prepared that at home.
While we are regulars, we went to Ditka's for the Christmas eve special. We thought that the food was mediocre at best that day. My prime rib was 50% fat, and there was too much waste. The service was also below what we have come to expect. Having been to Ditka's on numerous occasions, we were disappointed this visit, and we expected a better value for a $120.00 tab.
Food was very good. The salmon was delicious, and the crab bisque was absolutely wonderful. The service was okay...the waitress often left us sitting and waiting...other wait staff came to our aid. The restaurant seemed like it may have been a little short staffed.
This is probably the 4th or 5th time I've eaten at this location (which used to be an Atria's). I like the ambiance and have been seated in all areas of the restaurant, including the private dining room. When it became Ditka's, I had reservations about the quality of the food and the overall dining experience (I expected a "bar and grill" atmosphere). However, I was pleasantly surprised at the menu and the service.
My experience yesterday was an exception. I was looking forward to ordering the meatloaf stack which is one of my favorites. To my dismay, when requested it our server told us they were out of the meatloaf yesterday. We got to the restaurant at noon and there were only 6-8 other tables occupied in the main dining area. So it isn't likely they ran out that day. How do you not order sufficient inventory when you've obviously run out the day before (or knew that you didn't have the required number of portions based on order history for the following day).
In any case, I ordered the chicken madeira - which was good - but our order didn't get to the table until an hour after we arrived (and at least 45 minutes after ordering). A staff member stopped at our table to tell us that the kitchen had messed up our order and they were re-doing it but that occurred only 7-10 minutes before the meals finally arrived. They didn't charge us for the second glass of wine but the faux pas we experienced when the restaurant wasn't busy were surprising.
Despite this less-than-stellar review for this visit, I will continue to dine here. I like the restaurant, the location, the service and the menu.
Our server was great, but the cooks could not get my wife's steak correct (Pittsburgh Blue). They tried 2xs without being successful so my wife went with a chicken option. The server was empathetic and tried to make it right. The serving manager came across as smug and had a few excuses.
Felt like we were ignored by the waitress (other then when she brought the bill, then she had time to socialize) and rushed by the server ( bringing one course out before half way done with the previous course). Considering cost of over $100.00 for two people for a dinner consisting of per-prepared food I would think the service would be better.( Thanksgiving Special )
Once seated, it took 15 minutes to get a glass of water from the manager, then another 5 minutes to get a menu and order drinks, 15 minute to get the drinks and place order. Waitress doesn't bring food some one else does so don't ask for another drink. From what I could see, Waitress had three other tables to wait on and walked within five feet of our table and never looked in our direction so I could get her attention. Not even half way through the soup and our salad was brought out. Had to ask for bread and was done with the salad before that came. Then half way through the salad the main course came out. I told the server (not the Waitress) to take it back and bring it out after we were done with the salad. The server rolled his eyes like this was a hardship for him to do. Main course came and didn't see the waitress till almost done with the meal. Finally ordered a second drink, this came at the end of the meal when I was ready to order coffee. I was here last year for Thanksgiving and it had more diners then this year. I won't be coming back next Thanksgiving.
My family went to Ditka’s Wexford for Thanksgiving dinner. We all had their Thanksgiving Special -soup, salad, Turkey - stuffing - potato - green beans entree & dessert for $36. The crab bisque was excellent as was the salad with leafy lettuce dried cranberries, goat cheese & Granny Smith apples. The main course was delicious, too. Just an outstanding experience.
We always go to Ditkas but usually visit the Robinson location. The Wexford location is not as good as the Robinson location. The servers are rushed, unorganized, not friendly and actually a bit rude. Recently on Thanksgiving we were seated promptly per our reservations but waited 10 minutes before Server approached our table. It then took her another 15 minutes to bring our drinks (no alcohol drinks just iced tea and soda) to the table. She took our appetizer order then disappeared for at least another 10 minutes. We got our calamari before she took dinner order. She didn’t fill our drinks. Appeared scattered. The calamari was not cooked properly. The buns were not done either. Our holiday salads were a mess of cranberries and apples dumped in a heap. The turkey and stuffing was good. The Robinson location is always on point and the entire staff is much more positive, efficient and friendly.
Comfortable, quiet atmosphere for our anniversary dinner. Small snack sample before meal was nice touch. Server was very nice and for most part attentive. Although, my soft drink did sit empty for a time leaving me wanting more. Main course was delicious and cooked to our liking. I almost finished my filet with crabmeat when I encountered a small hair on my plate. Doubt that it had come from my person but I i talked myself into thinking that it may have as I didn't want to put damper on occasion for my wife as she had suggested your place for our anniversary date. Staff should be trained to be sure that this cannot happen. Sharable side of macaroni with bacon sounded like a great pick but seemed prefab and was not very good. Dessert was delicious.
Second trip to Ditka's as last visit was in Sunday and Dad wanted prime rib. Room is comfy and pleasant in a generic way. Started off with the highlights of the meal: Coach's Manhattan (highly recommended, even at $14) and a shared plate of fried calamari - clearly fresh, lightly battered, piping hot and enhanced with hot pepper rings - they disappeared!!!
Dinner was standard steak house fare. Everything is a la carte and what one would expect, but nothing more. My petite filet was well seasoned and cooked but I have never needed a steak knife to cut broccoli before. Now I have. The baked potato we shared was massive and delicious, especially the coarse-salted skin! Dad was underwhelmed by his prime rib - nothing wrong with it, just didn't live up to the raves of friends. Service was competent, pleasant and unobtrusive. We each enjoyed a glass of the Smith and Hook Cabernet (blend). Very tasty and easy drinking. I generally feel like a schmuck paying $15/glass for a wine that retails for $21 a bottle and this time was no different. That's better than the 300% of retailed charged for a few of the 'Great Bottles of Wine for $30' listed in the menu but not by much.
We were greeted with a smile and escorted to our table. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and checked on us in a timely manner. Since this was our first time at the restaurant, the manager came over to our table with a special artichoke/parmesan crustini--very nice gesture. The best part of the dining experience was that our various courses were timed correctly so that we had ample time to enjoy each course before the next one arrived. This is not something most restaurants seem to have mastered. The food was very good, also. We will definitely return to enjoy again.
One of the best steaks I've had in years I had filet mignon my husband had prime rib melt-in-your-mouth juicy steak not overspiced. My broccoli got cold sitting at the table but they warmed it up for me nicely. Service was excellent. Restaurant was clean and spacious. A little on the expensive side but worth it if it's a special occasion.
Delmonico requested as medium plus. Waiter sold me on medium, as they are cooked at very high temp. Meal came to the table and the waiter suggested we cut in. The cut looked like a medium rare, but I figured the outer edges would be at least medium. Wrong. Closer to medium rare or rare and not at all warm. I held off eating any and planned to ask for a little heat. Waiter never returned until wife was already finished with meal (which was good). My side dish never made it to table and when it was delivered by manager, he offered to take the side off the bill and sent us out a nice dessert. No discussion of other aspects of meal and I was ready to be out of there. The reheated delmonico was not bad as a leftover for the kids.
