The upstairs was closed for a private party - it was incredibly loud downstairs - the chocolate ice cream had a very spicy taste - our kids were bothered by it and when we discussed with the waiter - he had no idea. just really, really loud - could not hear people at our own table -
The food was good, it was fajitas and burritos. I had the shrimp fajitas - would I go again sure - it was a fun atmosphere, loud and dimly lit. A good time with friends - #happyhours
Their Bartender/Waiter was awesome, very friendly, I wasnt sure what drink to choose from their menu so he whipped us up something original and it was hands down 1 of the best drinks I ever had, I believe he said his name was Zack he had a awesome Steven Adam's Mustache 😅
As always, the food was good and the margaritas were excellent! Still a favorite place to go with friends.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING
Good food, nice people, and good college vibe.
Hadnt been in years. Still yum and fun. Service was top notch. Margaritas with heat were exceptional.
all time favorite!
Everything was good up until the very end when it was quite hard to get a hold of our waitress after asking for the check and to go boxes. Otherwise, yummy food. Excellent al pastor tacos.
service was friendly and very good. Food was tasty and our servers recommendations were on point.
Always had good food but since being sold to another restaurant group, they have made improvements - better menu, children’s menu, seating is more thoughtfully arranged. Would suggest that anyone who hasn’t been there lately should give it another try.
Food was disappointingly awful. Service took too long.
We had reservations no waiting. Two floors plenty of seating even if you don't have reservations they can probably squeeze you and easily We sat right down, very accommodating, food came out quickly. By the way we had fish tacos and Carnitas and they were amazing.
Actually this was the worst Mexican food I ever tasted. Server could not get order correct and brought food my guest was allergic to.
Very sorry I brought my guest here for was was supposed to be a special occasion dinner.
Been here many times in the past, the place has changed quite a bit over time. The change has been for the worse, the service was mediocre at best, the food tasted like Taco Bell and the ambiance was drab and boring.
I think if you've never been to distrito in the good old days you would probably think it was perfect. However we used to go there when it was a hotspot and that it is no longer. However if you're going to grab a quick beer and a taco it's the place for you. The music was extremely loud we could barely hear each other and we were the only two in the restaurant other than a large party in the private room at the time. The server did turn it down for us and made it a lot better. We ordered five different things and everything came out all at the same time. Nothing was particularly hot but not cold enough to send back. We had the shrimp ceviche which was very good and tasty. The rice and beans side was very good too. I found the mushroom flatbread a little bland. They used to use truffle oil on their pizzas which gave it a unique flavor and this was kind of tasteless. But it was a beautiful looking Pizza. Mind you it was on a corn tortilla crust and I felt that you almost tasted the crust more than the toppings.
I think the ambiance and the food and the prices are great for college students and for a quick bite. It certainly is not the dining place it used to be in its heyday.
The service was very friendly and we have no complaints about that.
Excellent food and service - most innovative design and a cool and fun place - best margaritas and lively bar! It is the jewel of University City that is accessible, fun, and affordable.
Food would uninspiring, bland, too salty, drinks we’re too salty. You name it it, it of sucked. Place is run by a bunch of uninterested 20 somethings. It has definately taken a nosedive.
Myself and 6 friends went for my birthday and had the best time. Our server was a sweet heart and the managers were very attentive. The food was even better. We left so full that we could barely walk. Thanks, guys.
We waited at the front even though we had a reservation. It didn't look like there were enough people working there at lunch hour for a restaurant with the reputation Distrito is supposed to have. Service was not very attentive, it took a long time to get some things. I asked the waiter what foods were really spicy hot and his answer was kind of all over the place, so I said, how about you tell me what is NOT spicy. Same answer. I asked about a soup and he said it wasn't hot but it was. I mean, that's not really a big deal, people interpret that differently and he said some of the chefs put more spice in than others. But then most of the food was just average, we had a group and everyone agreed. I was also surprised that when the burritos came they were wrapped foil and in this basket type thing with nothing else--like it was cheap take out. I was disappointed that the fajitas didn't have any vegetables at all. It was just chicken and a ton of fried onions. The chicken was very good and so were the chips.
Staff was great - went out of their way to accommodate our large group while remaining friendly and fast. Everyone involved with the place was a delight to deal with.
Service was great and the food was awesome. Will definitely go again
It was great! The only issue was there was one waiter working most of the second floor so she was very delayed getting our orders (understandably). The manager was able to step in and grab us some drinks while we were waiting, and we were in no rush so it all worked out.
nice Mexican food, the selection is not too broad but it works well; good price/value ratio. Waiters are friendly.
Always enjoy eating here. Sat on the ground level for the 1st time, definitely less noise than upstairs.
The food that night was just okay. It has been at least a year since I was at Distrito and I remember it being better last time. There were 3 of us and no one's meal was great. It was okay but there are so many good restaurants to choose from in the area, I wouldn't rush back. The margarita, however, was very good as was our server!
One of our favorites for everyday dining and works also for a special occasion birthday celebration!!!
The best tacos and churros in University City and maybe even all of Philadelphia. 10/10 recommend
Christina waited on our table and the service was exceptional. Her service was impeccable and will definitely be coming back again because of it! The food was also excellent. We ordered the Poutine fries at the recommendation of Christina and were not let down. We practically licked the plate clean! And the frozen margs just topped off an already great meal with exceptional service. 10/10 would recommend.
We have always loved the food and the ambiance here. This time it was a little off. My niece discovered a piece of plastic in her enchilada and it seemed like it was still frozen/uncooked in the center. They did take off a couple of items from the cheque to make up for it, but it ruined the experience a little bit.
Mahi mahi still the best in the city. They seem bigger now. HUGE PLUS! Mushroom flatbread always amazing also. I think something a bit spicy would take it to another level. I had it with crushed red peppers..yum
They were especially accommodating about the noise. Being someone with hearing aids, I greatly appreciated it.
The margs are weak, the tacos are good, and th noise level is deafening. Come here with someone who bores you.
Excellent Friday-night get-together; my wife and I were visiting our son for UPenn weekend. Vibrant environment, great food; would recommend you put this place on your 'must-visit' list
Great choice for birthday celebration or to meet friends for weekend meal.....our personal favorite is the Chipotle Chicken!
First things first, the food is really good! Very fresh and reasonably priced. FYI the chips are the super thick ones. Im more of a cantina chip gal, but the salsa was delicious.
Okay, the restaurant is right off Penn campus. If you aren't in college prepare to feel old. Its a lot of 18/19/20 year olds in big groups being rowdy. It is super loud upstairs.
My suggestion is, if you are over the age of 23, and want to be able to talk to your dining mate(s) ask to sit downstairs. It seemed much calmer.
One of our favorite Philly restaurants. Always have a good experience.
One of our favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. Literally dine there with friends nearly every week!
The food was mediocre- I expected more flavorful dishes from a Garces restaurant.
Best nachos ever! And that quesadilla!! Yes!
