Distrito Taqueria Ratings and Reviews
Overall the experience was fantastic. I went with a group of friends and I have to say that the menu may come off at first as a challenege on what to order, however you cant go wrong. We ordered atleast half the menu and shared. Everything was flavored perfectly well. The waitress we had was very accomodating to our table. Looking forward to returning.
My husband and I dined at Distrito for our 7 year anniversay. We ordered the Frida tasting menu and were very happy with our choice. The waitress worked with our subsitution requests and there was plently of food. We left feeling like the value for the food was amazing! I HIGHLY recommend!
the duck mole and hangar steak tacos were delicious. other dishes were also very good, though the desserts were a big disappointment. service was pretty good, but dishes were delivered to the wrong people--second time in one week for me at two different jose garces restaurants... hmmm... two data points is a trend?
A splendid experience. The whole evening was wonderful. Our waiter helped us greatly with his knowledge of the menu, as it was our first time there. The noise seems overwheming, but I never found it a problem to speak to or hear my wife when we were talking. It's bright, it's fun, it's delicious. As a result, it is spectacular dining moment.
O.K......Listen up folks.....Can somebody say YUMMY! This was my 4th visit to DiStrito and I never tire of this place. I think back to the day my girlfriend had to drag me into the place because I told her how much I hate Mexican food. Well let me tell ya' don't deny yourself a visit. There is so much to choose from and it's all very good. Like the duck moles and the short rib huraches. The District will make you smack your mama. The plantain is crispy on the ouside and tender on the inside. The drinks are delicious. This is Mexican like you've never had before. Go for it!
This was the 2nd time that I have dined at Distrito...first time we got a selection of plates - this time we went with the $55 chefs tasting. The food was very good, as it was the first time we were there. Chef Garces is very creative with flavors and presentation. The only negative that I have is that the service was a bit too fast for a chef's tasting. Each 'course' of the tasting was brought out together. The problem that we had with this was that, particularly for the hot dishes, it was difficult to enjoy each plate to it's fullest because we felt rushed to get to the next one before it got cold. I've had the tasting at Tinto, and the service was paced perfectly to allow us to enjoy each dish...
Pretty good food, but NO MATCH for El Vez!!!! The service and staff were great - friendly, knowledgable people! Thumbs up for that. The CARNITAS were very dry and sorely in need of a sauce! The LOS HONGOS was outstanding! QUESO FUNDIDO was basically a huge pile of cheese you has to search thru to find a piece of duck or.... anything other than cheese! ESQUITES was just OK. POBLANO was dry!
Overall - need MORE vegetarian choices!!!!
I admit to a fondness for Garces restaurants, and this one was a peak experience! We had the tasting menu, and my entire party loved every single dish. The service was friendly, solicitous, informative and unobtrusive, all at the same time. The flatbread with wild mushrooms and truffle oil and crema was amazing, but no dish disappointed. The level of flavor, texture, temperature and eye appeal was completely satisfying. And the freshness of the margaritas made with fresh lime instead of a mix and a choice of excellent tequilas was a treat. The tiny dessert, a cream cheese flan, was exactly the right size, texture and sweetness. Noisy, but manageable. We left in a cloud of contentment. The chairs were particularly comfortable. What a treat!
The food was good, some of it very good, and the service was attentive but not overbearing. The margaritas were delicious and there were some fun bits of decor to spark conversation. I would eat here again if I happened to be in University City, but I wouldn't make a special trip for a meal here.
I've dined at Distrito several times now- I'm afraid that my last visit was not so great- the food was good, but the service was definitely lacking. The server just seemed unfriendly and she never really was attentive. Given the high standard that Jose Garces sets at his restaurants, I was disappointed- I've eaten at all of them several times now.
This was arguably the best meal I've ever had in my life, and hands down the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. We got the tasting menu, which was more than enough food and was pretty reasonably priced for the exceptional quality. Our server was knowledgeable, helpful, and very friendly. I can't wait to go back.
DiStrito was very good indeed; every dish was delicious and the service was pleasant and attentive. My one complaint: the pricing of some dishes (eg the lamb chops: for two small chops, with not much else on the plate, $22 seemed excessive, although they were delicious).
We had the chef tasting menu and I also had the drink pairing. It was very good and the drinks were properly matched. The waitstaff were very friendly and spent time explaining our courses some of which were non-traditional offerings. It was a tasty and fun evening. I would recommend the Jicama salad and the guacamole - unbelievable!
It was difficult to hear the waitress when she explained the tappas style of ordering. I didn't see anything on the menu that gave that explanation, but it might be a good idea to include something like that. By the time the waitress explained it, we really didn't have time to discuss much among ourselves. Other than that observation, we had a great time, and the food was really good. Thanks!
After everything I heard and read about this restaurant, I was expecting great things but was thoroughly disappointed. The nachos were good but it went straight down hill from there. The hamachi taco that everyone raves about tasted like a glorified fish stick. The kobe beef taco (special that night)was tough and chewy. The hamachi cevice was good but I thought the presentation was so poor that it looked like something inedible or for the very brave. I don't even want to mention the enchiladas. Really didn't want to temp our luck anymore so it was "check please." Yes, maybe they were having an off night, but with Jose Garces reputation, you are not allowed to have an off night.
The food at Distrito was amazing... I would definitely recommend it to friends!! One thing that we didn't know prior to going is that most menu items are served tapas-style to be shared. Our waitress recommended that our party of two order 5-7 items, we ordered 5 and it was way more than enough. Next time we'll order 3 and hopefully have room for to try their desserts. Drinks were expensive at around $10 each so two rounds of drinks accounted for almost half of our bill which was $90 total. The food is priced well though -- we're looking for a reason to go back already!! We love Mexican food and this meal was a cut above the other trendy Mex places in Center City.
Each dish they brought to the table was even better than the last. the tastes were just superb. Hadn't been for a while and in a way it was good because I had forgotten how excellent the dishes were. A friend who was visiting from England and in our party just couldn't believe it.
Our 2nd visit and we loved it just as much! The food is outstanding!!
The only thing I'm not crazy about are the drinks...and I like drinks. The sangria is terrible...really, terrible. The waiter actually warned me about it the first time, but I did not believe that sangria could be bad. It was...bad. The margarita I had (pineapple) was only OK.
