It’s such a shame to see how far the Garces empire is falling. We’ve eaten countless meals at so many of his restaurants. Tonight’s meal was awful. I felt too bad about Jose’s situation to even complain. The soda was flat, the guacamole with crab used to have limp crabmeat. When it came today, I asked, again, for crabmeat, because they must’ve forgotten, and just sprinkled some cheese. I was informed that what I thought was cheese was the crabmeat. In there defense, they brought out some extra. The short rib huaraches was burnt, and it appears they changed the tortillas used for the tacos. As for the tacos, the carnitas were tasteless, and had more onion than meat. The overall quality of ingredients seemed much lower. I’m hoping it was just a bad night, but it was unacceptable.
Waiter was pretty inattentive. He never returned to the table and anytime we needed something, we could see him standing in the back talking to another waiter.
My enchilada was good, a little pricey but still good. My friend got the flatbread, which seemed like an attempt at combining a cheap amount of ingredients into an over-priced entree with little consideration of actual taste.
The $5 margarita was good though. Probably the only thing I would get here again.
Great food & drink! Service was only sub par because they seemed short staffed, but our waitress did her absolute best to tend to us and worked SO HARD to make up for the shortage. I would definitely go back!
I had been here a few times before. This time the upstairs was closed and it was so loud that my friend and I gave up trying to talk. Next time I will call to ask about room before making a reservation. The food was good and a little pricey as usual but the noise made it an unpleasant experience.
AMAZING! I can still taste those tacos. The interior decor was so creative. I loved the ambiance, but back to the food. I’ve been looking for a “reasonable” taco spot in Philadelphia and this is it. Oh, and those $5 margaritas for HAPPY HOUR?! AWESOME!! They were strongly than expected thus, making them delicious. If you haven’t been, you’re overdue!
Excellent! We went to Distrito for my daughter’s 21st birthday and could not have been happier with the choice. The servers were friendly and helpful, the drinks were great and being vegetarians we had plenty of menu options. The food was fresh and flavorful. The nachos were excellent. All in all a good choice. Will definitely revisit.
Enjoyed the Happy Hour Specials. Especially, the veggie nachos and traditional frozen margarita!
Great tacos, great service.
I love their Margaritas! The food was very good. Service was great. I have been here several times and am never disappointed.
Lunch date, the restaurant is very nice as far as the decor is concerned. I felt that my chicken tortilla soup was salty and my mahi mahi tacos were a little bland. My date had the enchilada and two tacos al pastor and he felt his food lacked flavor.
We weren’t served. We sat for over an hour and the food never arrived.
Two different sets of parents and a small baby for a graduation and our waiter did a great job accommodating everyone and making sure we were constantly taken care of. Great food great place!!
The food was delicious. Excellent choices. Great atmosphere and wonderful service.
As always, tasty, creative and fun experience. Great spot to go with a group. Perfect for sharing too
Everything was wonderful except our server, who seemed annoyed and unhappy to be there.
So accomodating and such a fun atmosphere! The food and drinks were great!
Cinco de mayo
Food was great but guac is more made and small portions for price
Party in corner of room was just so loud- couldn’t hear across just a foursome table- too bad. Food is always top Notch!
The tortillas in the taco were stale! An easy fix for stale tortillas is to quick fry them -- too complicated apparently for Distritos. Waiter's comment on hearing of stale tortillas: 'No way'. Not helpful.
Be sure to have 4 people to do a booth for the best experience.
Mediocre food at best. Expected far better. Fajita veggies were overcooked and mushy and consisted primarily of onions, with very scanty amount of peppers. Salad was flavorless.
We gave Distrito a second chance. The first time we sat upstairs and it was very loud. This time, we sat downstairs and it was ridiculously loud. Music was very, very loud; there were 6 or 7 TV screens on. Ridiculous. We won't be back.
Delicious tacos (especially the carnitas and fish) and the steak fajitas were over the top scrumptious. Skip the so called home made ice cream as it tasty store bought. We went on Friday night and the place was packed (reservations highly recommended). Unfortunately our waiter was a bit sleepy and we waited 10 min for menus and he forgot our margaritas . Of note, the place is VERY noisy, but we will return as this is our fav mex in Philly
Yesterday was our 4th visit to District. The food as always was very good. The service though ok was lackluster. My biggest problem was that it was so loud that we couldn't talk to each other.
One of my personal favorites to take guests visiting Philadelphia and UPenn! The atmosphere is great and the food and service are always awesome!
The hostess staff were not professional or helpful. I had requested a booth and they informed me additional 10min wait, I was ok with that. They then placed us at table and said booths were only for large parties. There were 4 open booths at that time, no parties filled those booths the entire time we were there. The hostess then said we can take the booth that was dirty after the staff cleaned it, left us sitting at a table with our menud and told us to seat ourselves! Very rude and not professional! Food and wait staff were excellent though. Recommend retraining of hostesses though!
Happy hour margaritas were excellent, not watered down or "mixy". Chips and salsa were so so, but food was good. Jicama Salad was very fresh and very tasty. Will definitely go back!
My girlfriend and I decided to have a date night, so I surprised her with tickets to see a movie she had been waiting to see and a surprise dinner date. We were in awe of the ambiance and the energy that this place emitted. We are both huge fans of traditional Mexican food, and it didn’t disappoint. The fish tacos were absolutely stellar. The rice and beans were cooked to perfection, and the service we received was warm and welcoming. We will definitely be returning to this place in the very near future!
Kate was awesome, perfect addition to our date !!!!
Interior is lovely - really great vibe and atmosphere. Service was generally good, although our apps got to us before our drinks. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Food, however, could not make up for ambiance and service. Fish taco was disappointing (all of us agreed it tasted like a frozen fish stick). Vegan chorizo was very very salty. Other tacos were okay, not great, and really small for the price. Excellent fried plantain and excellent soup. The sangria had a medicinal quality to it, but the other happy hour drinks were fine.
One of our favorites restaurants in University City. Food and service are always great!
One of our favorite restaurants in University City....walking distance near campus and great menu and dining!
Service was iffy. We felt very rushed, as the kitchen closed an hour after our reservation. Food was fine
I was very disappointed overall. It took us forever to get our meals and when they were finally delivered they were served cold. I expected a better experience because I've been there a number of years ago and at that time it was great. I was surprised to see the quality of the food and service level decline so much.
Overrated, overpriced. Good if you don't really like Mexican food, but not authentic
Good service, a bit noisy with mostly U of Penn students.
Food BLAND!!!! I’ve eaten Mexican food at many places and this was about the blandest I can recall.
Presentation very good but both my wife and I were disappointed by how unremarkable the taste was.
When Distrito first opened it was delicious. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has greatly declined. It taste like college cafeteria food instead of high end fusion Mexican My soup tasted like Campbell's tomatoe, thinned with chicken broth, with some overboiled tough chicken and a crazy amount of tortilla strips. Everything was bland and salty.
We used to live the food. This time, everything was so over salted it tasted like a practical joke.
