We've been coming here for years, every 2-3 months usually before catching a show at the Fox. Food is always yummy, which is why we keep coming back, but the service has gone downhill. It took us 15 minutes just to be seated, since there was only one waitress who apparently was also the hostess, serving tables across the restaurant. I didn't leave a review when we came last month but twice in a row with the same issue... they need to do some hiring and staff appropriately. Last time we waited 15 minutes to ask for the check, which is not fun since you're trying to talk and have fun but when both you and your husband are trying to stare down the wait staff so they can bring you a drink, so you can order food, and 15 minutes just to get to ask for the check... I literally had to walk to the other side of the restaurant to hand them my credit card because we had to leave for the show. The food is awesome and the wait staff that are there know what they are doing and are good at their jobs, there just needs to be another person on staff during busy hours. The good news is the food is delicious, the drinks are great, and the food comes out quickly once the order is in.
Seating is different wish they had just normal tables instead of end tables.
Fun for brunch if bottomless mimosas are your thing...the food not so great, but it will do the trick to help with the alcohol.
Great location in downtown Oakland. Very fun and vibrant feel. Good tapas menu.
Very good diverse food. Very good waitstaff! Affordable wine
It is a very nice space, good food and extensive wine menu. Service was not too attentive, and music was unnecessarily loud, especially as the evening progressed.
Despite our reservation, they didn’t have a table and had to wait 15 min. Food is good but not as good as the last time I visited. Also annoying that food comes out “as they get it ready. So in our table of four one person waited 15 minutes for their main course and the other 3 sat and got cold. Our appetizers and wine were good but they forgot one that we ordered (so did we!) and billed us for it. That was when we realized we never received it. Not a sorry or anything from our server.
This is a good spot but it is pricey. Not sure it will remain on my list of local favorites.
We celebrated a friend birthday at District and it left such an impression on all of us! The server, Torii, was amazing and made my friend’s birthday one of the best she’s ever had! The food was also amazing, the oyster happy hour being our favorite! Would recommend this to anyone looking to celebrate an event or just chill with friends!
Service was bad because they were short staffed. Servers were overwhelmed and rude.
Made a reservation, table wasn’t ready until 1 hr later, had to return 2 drinks to the bar as they tasted horrible
Fun and tasty
Had a bit of a wait to order a drink but the staff - starting with the bartender - really went above and beyond to make up for it. Will definitely go back but just not on a Friday night during happy hour.
We were seated at a table but never received any service. Waited about 20 minutes before we left
our service was poor. we went on Restaurant Week Oakland and we felt our server was trying too hard to impress with her knowledge of the menu, but did not listen to what we wanted, which caused us confusion about our ordering.
The food was fine, but the poor service ruined my dinner. I waited 20 minutes for the server to take my order, and finally had to flag her down and asked her if I could order. She never once checked on me to see if I was satisfied with my dinner, and I had to repeat the same 20 minute wait and request process for the check.
Food was very good, interesting combinations especially cauliflower & kale salad. Crowd was diverse. Service timing was off and server did not know the wine list. Food was worth the wait and price but we probably won't drive across the east bay for a second time.
I hosted my cousin's 37th birthday, it was so fun. The music was jamming, the food flavorful, and the drinks were tasty. Overall a wonderful experience...
I really enjoyed my time at District! The Southern-style brunch food was delicious. Specifically, the biscuits and country gravy. Finding a great mixture of the two in California is hard, but these were just right. The bread pudding was also fantastic with the caramel and whip. Service could be slightly more attentive, but it didn't put a damper on our good time during brunch. The place was packed, and that's for a great reason!
The food and wine pairings were delicious. I love the atmosphere. Our waitress was a little over bearing with the directions on how to taste the bourbon, but other that, it was fabulous!
Didn't catch her name but the sorta red headed server was absolutely wonderful clearly loves her Job and had a wonderful knowledge of whiskey. Also great happy hour the oysters were great
Very friendly, helpful staff. We probably lucked out on a pretty quiet evening, I would bet this place can get noisy. Excellent food, knowledgeable server - Thank you!
Great happy hour! Love you That they do weekends too. Super hip spot
loved the table we sat at which had a turn table in it
Always a good time here. It was crazy busy, so the food took longer than usual, but our server did a great job of getting us drinks. Food was delicious as usual too.
Sunday brunch was a bust. Staff was very friendly and attentive but food was bad and overpriced. Cold eggs, cold potatoes, cold biscuits from buffet despite being first guests in the door. Coffee not yet brewed, and no tea on the menu. All for $22 plus $5 for the coffee. Too bad.
Disappointing small portions you had to buy several of anything to start to feel satisfied. Menu not clear about size of dishes so it's a guessing game - not pleased we had to eat again right after our concert event :-(
The District-Oakland is in a wonderful place and I loved the music that was playing. The wine I had was good. They need a new menu, more comfort foods. they need to remember that people are drinking and you need food to hold all that alcohol. It is a great place to come.
We stopped here for a pre-game brunch and had the best time! Great service, awesome food, and excellent drinks! Would recommend making a reservation, as they fill up quickly.
Did the buffet lunch; food flavorful and fresh tasting, with the exception of the sausages and some weird mystery curry (unlabeled). No fancy coffee— just drip, which is a shame. Overall a pleasant experience and would go back for brunch. Not really suitable for kids.
I attended Sunday Brunch 11/12/17 with 6 other women to celebrate my friends birthday. I only reserved a table for 2 but the Manager was nice enough to accommodate the last minute change. Jason the host greeted us and was attentive and polite. The food was great and the bottomless mimosa were Awesome!!! We arrived at 11am and left at 2:30pm. We had such a blast we didn't even realize so much time had gone by. The staff went above and beyond to make my party feel special! The level of service exceeded my expectations and I will definitely return. The bday girl left saying this the was the best idea and the best bday ever!!! The other Patrons were friendly and I was really impressed with the effort put in the make us feel at home. I love this spot!! Great job you guys!!! I really appreciate such a wonderful experience!!!
Had a great time. Great food and drink! Alec was awesome! Would go again.
Excellent brunch, the menu doesn't really change, and that's a good thing!
I had an awful experience here. Went for a friend's birthday dinner with a party of 7. We ordered drinks and then were left unattended for an hour even though we informed staff multiple times we were ready to order. We finally decided to pay for the drinks and leave to have dinner elsewhere. When we got the bill, gratuity was included and there was no apology whatsoever for the awful service. I would never return.
I brought a dozen of my colleagues here and we had a really nice time mingling on the couches rather than sitting still at a table. The food was easy and filling, while the wine list and cocktails rocked.
The service was aweful, we were seated 30 minutes before someone (bus person) came to our table and we had to ask for water. The waiter came over to tell us they were really busy and short staffed. The first thing we ordered they were out of. There were a group of young men at the bar and they were extremely loud in a already loud place! None tried to make amends. The place should have a big sign that says "no one over 25 is welcomed!". The food was ok.
Great food and great service. What more can you ask for!
The District has more of a Lounge feel then a restaurant. Food was tasty but staff was a little overwhelmed with keeping up with buffet trays being empty. Mimosas were good and quite a variety too. Service was good and pleasant.
We had dinner with our son who lives and works in Oakland. This place was perfect with great background music, excellent drink choices, and variety of food options. The ambiance was relaxing and comfortable...The table was ours for the evening and there was no rush to leave for another party after us.....definitely will be back...
Food was good, yet was brought out at staggered times which is not what we requested. Made dining a little awkward because they're small plates...
