District - Oakland Ratings and Reviews
The food was fine, but the poor service ruined my dinner. I waited 20 minutes for the server to take my order, and finally had to flag her down and asked her if I could order. She never once checked on me to see if I was satisfied with my dinner, and I had to repeat the same 20 minute wait and request process for the check.
Food was very good, interesting combinations especially cauliflower & kale salad. Crowd was diverse. Service timing was off and server did not know the wine list. Food was worth the wait and price but we probably won't drive across the east bay for a second time.
I really enjoyed my time at District! The Southern-style brunch food was delicious. Specifically, the biscuits and country gravy. Finding a great mixture of the two in California is hard, but these were just right. The bread pudding was also fantastic with the caramel and whip. Service could be slightly more attentive, but it didn't put a damper on our good time during brunch. The place was packed, and that's for a great reason!
Sunday brunch was a bust. Staff was very friendly and attentive but food was bad and overpriced. Cold eggs, cold potatoes, cold biscuits from buffet despite being first guests in the door. Coffee not yet brewed, and no tea on the menu. All for $22 plus $5 for the coffee. Too bad.
The District-Oakland is in a wonderful place and I loved the music that was playing. The wine I had was good. They need a new menu, more comfort foods. they need to remember that people are drinking and you need food to hold all that alcohol. It is a great place to come.
Did the buffet lunch; food flavorful and fresh tasting, with the exception of the sausages and some weird mystery curry (unlabeled). No fancy coffee— just drip, which is a shame. Overall a pleasant experience and would go back for brunch. Not really suitable for kids.
I attended Sunday Brunch 11/12/17 with 6 other women to celebrate my friends birthday. I only reserved a table for 2 but the Manager was nice enough to accommodate the last minute change. Jason the host greeted us and was attentive and polite. The food was great and the bottomless mimosa were Awesome!!! We arrived at 11am and left at 2:30pm. We had such a blast we didn't even realize so much time had gone by. The staff went above and beyond to make my party feel special! The level of service exceeded my expectations and I will definitely return. The bday girl left saying this the was the best idea and the best bday ever!!! The other Patrons were friendly and I was really impressed with the effort put in the make us feel at home. I love this spot!! Great job you guys!!! I really appreciate such a wonderful experience!!!
I had an awful experience here. Went for a friend's birthday dinner with a party of 7. We ordered drinks and then were left unattended for an hour even though we informed staff multiple times we were ready to order. We finally decided to pay for the drinks and leave to have dinner elsewhere. When we got the bill, gratuity was included and there was no apology whatsoever for the awful service. I would never return.
The service was aweful, we were seated 30 minutes before someone (bus person) came to our table and we had to ask for water. The waiter came over to tell us they were really busy and short staffed. The first thing we ordered they were out of. There were a group of young men at the bar and they were extremely loud in a already loud place! None tried to make amends. The place should have a big sign that says "no one over 25 is welcomed!". The food was ok.
We had dinner with our son who lives and works in Oakland. This place was perfect with great background music, excellent drink choices, and variety of food options. The ambiance was relaxing and comfortable...The table was ours for the evening and there was no rush to leave for another party after us.....definitely will be back...
Really enjoyed our meal at District! The food was excellent, and the service very good. We went on a Monday evening, so things were slow and quiet. I could see how a busy night could impact service and ambience (noise level). Still, a great find in Oakland and we will go back!
I made the reservation a week before and I emailed them and called everyday leading up to my reservation to change to a bigger table because I was expecting more then 8 people. I walked down to the bar and it was closed but I could clearly see kids running around and adults drinking at the bar. The employees acted like they didn't see me standing there at the door trying to get their attention. I stood outside for about 5 mins until I decided to call while I stood out there. A female answered the phone and I told her I was outside and I just wanted to see the area we would be in or if we could get a bigger table. She ignored my question to come inside. I asked her again and at this point I was annoyed that she wouldn't let me look at the place.
I was the first one to show up and the last to leave. Food was gross and drinks we overpriced for "happy hour" I have a feeling 18 black people isn't what they wanted in their bar. We could all feel our server didn't like us or try to engage in conversation , she kept rolling her eyes every time we ordered something else. I was just over it. I walked to the rest room where I could hear OUR SERVER calling our table the black table or all the black people !!!! If you aren't business professional and black they don't want you in there. We spent over 500 on the bill with a big tip!! I won't be coming here ever again!!
The Sunday brunch at District is fantastic. The first time I went I was a bit hesitant because I heard it was a buffet. Buffet makes me think lesser quality. This is certainly not the case with District. Their ceviche is delicious! Biscuits and gravy were on point and do not miss their greens and homemade spicy chicken sausage. The food is quality, the staff were great and they didn't skimp on the mimosas. :)
Food & atmosphere were not an issue, the service & wait staff that started off amazing, but crashed & burned at our expense. After poor service we were told that the bar wanted to comp shots. Little did we know the waitress was included in this round of drinks but we were billed for her shot with gratuity included because of the 7 person party.
Of course the restaurant wasn't supposed to know about this.
It's unfortunate because we were with family, celebrating a birthday and late Mother's Day gift.
Not sure I will ever recommend this place to anyone.
