The food and ambience were wonderful.
Service was prompt and very friendly.
Wonderful people watching was a nice bonus.
So good! Started off with 1/2 dozen perfect, really cold oysters on the half shell, served with horseradish and an onion jam. Then we had a charcuterie plate that was beautifully accompanied with almonds, apples, honey, etc. Then some yummy sliders and cheesy arancini, that I just loved. Our server was great and she recommended a delicious Tempranilla. A very vibrant scene.
Terrible food, even worse service. I will never go back. Food was very very sub par for the price, and it was 15 min before I was asked for my drink order. Do not go here, you will be disappointed.
Great atmosphere and awesome play list. Food and drinks were on point. Very friendly waitress and bartenders. Will definitely go back.
I love District, the decor, the atmosphere, the music, the crowd, the food, the service.
Fan of the happy hour and their lounge area is my fav.
In love with this place.
We decided to go, because one time we saw a line out the door of people waiting to get it. We made reservations for Sunday Brunch. We got there at 11am. Every place can have a bad day. The food was so salty we could hardly eat it. The sausage was especially salty. Even the bacon, which I love, was too salty. We ended up eating the Cheddar Grits, which were good, the scrambled eggs, the mini pancakes. Every thing else was way too salty for us. Sorry to say. Hope you do better. The place was beautiful.
My son and I had a wonderful time at District. We were immediately welcomed and both enjoyed the atmosphere even though we are 31 years separated by age. The food was wonderful. We each shared 4 plates that came out in succession. My son enjoyed his moscow mule and I had a hard to find IPA. We will be back.
Got there early with my friend, like 10 minutes. Was not able to get the table and after waiting for 20 minutes, we just got seated at the bar. The place was overcrowded for a Thu night (conference crowd) but the service was great and food came out very quickly. Ambiance is great, especially the couches area. This was my second time. Will definitely return.
The staff at The District was sharp, accommodating, and offered great service. We actually ate there twice! I like the mixed seating inside and their menu offered something for everyone in our group despite a variety of dietary restrictions.
Birthday brunch was delightful.
Great vibe for drinks
Fun yet classy SF/Oaktown urban vibe with a really cool mix of casual and sophisticated, nicely set with high ceilings, great light contrasts with huge windows and reflective glass bar wall, all on a well located street corner in the Historic Old Oakland District. Great food, drinks and service. Sweet retro live entertainment duet on night we were there. It would be five stars on many reviews given I rate on a tough standard. We had a wonderful experience all around.
We were hoping to have a romantic Valentine's evening at District. Unfortunately, no. While we had a lovely sofa seat, the combo started up and the music was so loud that we could not hear the waiter, nor could we carry on a good conversation. The windows were open, so I had to keep my coat on the entire evening - I was sitting in a place where that breeze was coming right in on top of me.
Food was good - especially liked the mushroom pizza. Don't bother with the octopus, though - way overdone. Brussell sprouts were excellent. It was too bad that loud and cold made the evening unpleasant. I know that restaurant owners like it really loud; not patrons - we want to be able to talk without yelling "what?"
Great selection of brown liquors, the $1 happy hour oysters were on point overall nice hangout spot
Food was pretty good could be a little more interesting
Not too crowded, noise level reasonable so you can hear each other. Brunch food was SPOT ON despite it being a buffet.
Service was very, very slow
Great place for a group dinner. Will definitely go back.
District Oakland had a very nice set up for brunch, from the food selections to the different flavors of bottomless mimosas!
Food was amazing! We had the Ahi Poke, French fries, and grilled octopus. Would definitely go back.
Food was very salty, this place is more of a bar scene.
The service was awesome-the staff was experienced and attentive. The food was good. Drinks were great. The noise level was way too loud. We had a group and could barely hear each other. If they could address this, it would be perfect.
Brunch was great!
Had a great time with friends at the District. Great service, awesome wine and drink list. Prices are good for the downtown area. Close to Bart and bus, also great for walking if you work in the area. Cozy atmosphere for happy hour, small birthday gatherings, couples who want to chill. They play great music, but no dancing. I look forward to going back soon. District you give Oakland another check point, thanks.
Word to the wise. The brunch is a bit of scam. If come with a date, the bottomless mimosas and the bottomless brunch will be charged twice to the table. Share 1 plate if you can. Or you can get your $100 worth of brunch.
District is a nice neighborhood restaurant for Sunday brunch. Nice deal is the bottomless mimosas for $16 more. Sunday brunch is buffet only and the buffet was fine, but nothing special. No fruit, salad greens only, nothing made to order but sufficient meat and carbs, i.e. grits, biscuits, bacon, sausage, dollar size pancakes, scrambled eggs, etc.
The food was okay because many of the items were overcooked. Like the plantains and chicken sausage was over cooked.
The food and drinks Are GREAT! Brought my nephews and they loved the food. That says a lot, since they are very picky.
Excellent food & service! Just cold room and too many TV’s for date night.
Need a place for date night. Hubby and I found District to be amazing. The service, food and ambiance was inviting and laidback. Enough noise to keep you engaged but not to much that you couldn’t have a personal conversation.
Really nice mommies night out with my friends. Loved the atmosphere. Not too loud, not too quiet. Food was good and affordable. Would recommend and return.
Amazing food and drinks, good vibes.
This has been one of my favorite places to go for brunch. I hadn't been in a while so I was a little disappointed that some of the food taste different. The plantains are my favorite and one of the main reasons that I go, but they were dry and my mom said the eggs were a little watery. I think they have a different cook. Other than that everything was good.
Please bring back the original recipe for the plantains
We like coming back here, the food is great but they need to hire more staff on the floor. We had to go to the bar to order drinks because there was only one girl serving all the tables?
Breakfast buffet and bottomless mimosas for $38?! I couldn't resist the offer and was not disappointed.
Been a number of times to District. Very energetic ambience in a great old neighborhood of Oakland. Food was excellent -- ahi tuna tartare with the large taro root chips very flavorful; had the warm burrata with stuff in it, eaten on the warm thick toast halves, amazing; great drinks from the bar. Happy hour prices on the bar food and a number of drinks can't be beat. Server was very friendly and suggesting all good things. Check this place out for sure.
District left much to be desired. I love a buffet and bottomless brunch, but I hate not having adequate options or feeling I got my bang for my buck.
Where do I start? The salad was plain. I feel they should have included more salad fixings and another dressing option. The chicken sausage was disgusting and unlike any chicken sausage I have ever tasted. A fried chicken or turkey bacon option would have been better. As someone who doesn't eat pork and had a vegetarian with our group, having collard greens without pork would have been nice.
The various flavors of mimosas were amazing. I enjoy every flavor.
I gave three stars strictly on the drinks and staff. Both exceeded my expectations and made the experience enjoyable.
It was our first time for brunch, but we have been there for many happy hour occasions. Brunch was great and the waitress was sweet
I don't write a 1 star review often - but this had to be done. We made a reservation ahead of time for 6 people - at the last minute one couple had to cancel so we did show up with 4 people, but this should NOT have gotten us the treatment we received. We were seated a bit early which was fine at a huge table for 8-10 people, which would have made even 6 feel a bit spread out. And that is where the good points end. We waited way too long to have someone come over and take our drink order. One of the gals asked the waitress if a particular drink was really sweet - and she said no- just a tiny bit sweet - it was super sweet "tasted like lavender bath bomb water!". We then started with appetizers of 6 oysters and an order of balsamic figs. Those eventually came, but we had no plates, napkins or utensils - and there seemed to be no one to flag down to get any. Eventually a bus boy came by and he got us some napkins and utensils. We waited way way too long for our drinks, as our appetizers were almost done when the drinks arrived. The oysters were lovely - but the 3 small figs for $9.00 was absurd and not that good. The small plates were brought after we were completely done with the appetizers. We had all been looking at the menu for sometime, while waiting for the drinks - and again it took forever for the waitress to come to take our order. At that point we had given up, we could see the service sucked, the food was too expensive to be waiting that long for it, so we instead of ordering dinner asked for our check and left. We went across the street to the pizza place and had friendly prompt service with good food. Sorry District, I don't know if you were just short handed or were intentionally ignoring us as we were short 2 people in our party -but either way we are not coming back.
We have had very good experiences here before and were excited to bring our friends who had never been. Service was totally fine (not friendly, but courteous and attentive). The food and environment though-woe. We ordered the oysters to start with, and they had obviously been frozen and were still hard in the middle. Didn't seem to make sense to order another batch, as they no doubt would be frozen also. (and is it cool to have oysters at these prices frozen at any point before serving?)
For dinner, my hangar steak was almost too tough to chew and was medium and not medium rare as I ordered. My friend got a pizza which she only nibbled on, as it was not fully cooked really. My wife's pork belly and other friend's bone marrow were excellent.
Next on my complain train (which means this must have been something as I have never written a review before!) was how freezing the temperature was (most everyone sitting with coats on) and how just unbelievably loud the music was. The four of us are partiers, and love loud music, etc., but this was so loud that even at our small table, we gave up talking except to the person right next to us. Can't imagine going back
