District - Oakland Ratings and Reviews
Did the buffet lunch; food flavorful and fresh tasting, with the exception of the sausages and some weird mystery curry (unlabeled). No fancy coffee— just drip, which is a shame. Overall a pleasant experience and would go back for brunch. Not really suitable for kids.
I attended Sunday Brunch 11/12/17 with 6 other women to celebrate my friends birthday. I only reserved a table for 2 but the Manager was nice enough to accommodate the last minute change. Jason the host greeted us and was attentive and polite. The food was great and the bottomless mimosa were Awesome!!! We arrived at 11am and left at 2:30pm. We had such a blast we didn't even realize so much time had gone by. The staff went above and beyond to make my party feel special! The level of service exceeded my expectations and I will definitely return. The bday girl left saying this the was the best idea and the best bday ever!!! The other Patrons were friendly and I was really impressed with the effort put in the make us feel at home. I love this spot!! Great job you guys!!! I really appreciate such a wonderful experience!!!
I had an awful experience here. Went for a friend's birthday dinner with a party of 7. We ordered drinks and then were left unattended for an hour even though we informed staff multiple times we were ready to order. We finally decided to pay for the drinks and leave to have dinner elsewhere. When we got the bill, gratuity was included and there was no apology whatsoever for the awful service. I would never return.
The service was aweful, we were seated 30 minutes before someone (bus person) came to our table and we had to ask for water. The waiter came over to tell us they were really busy and short staffed. The first thing we ordered they were out of. There were a group of young men at the bar and they were extremely loud in a already loud place! None tried to make amends. The place should have a big sign that says "no one over 25 is welcomed!". The food was ok.
We had dinner with our son who lives and works in Oakland. This place was perfect with great background music, excellent drink choices, and variety of food options. The ambiance was relaxing and comfortable...The table was ours for the evening and there was no rush to leave for another party after us.....definitely will be back...
Really enjoyed our meal at District! The food was excellent, and the service very good. We went on a Monday evening, so things were slow and quiet. I could see how a busy night could impact service and ambience (noise level). Still, a great find in Oakland and we will go back!
I made the reservation a week before and I emailed them and called everyday leading up to my reservation to change to a bigger table because I was expecting more then 8 people. I walked down to the bar and it was closed but I could clearly see kids running around and adults drinking at the bar. The employees acted like they didn't see me standing there at the door trying to get their attention. I stood outside for about 5 mins until I decided to call while I stood out there. A female answered the phone and I told her I was outside and I just wanted to see the area we would be in or if we could get a bigger table. She ignored my question to come inside. I asked her again and at this point I was annoyed that she wouldn't let me look at the place.
I was the first one to show up and the last to leave. Food was gross and drinks we overpriced for "happy hour" I have a feeling 18 black people isn't what they wanted in their bar. We could all feel our server didn't like us or try to engage in conversation , she kept rolling her eyes every time we ordered something else. I was just over it. I walked to the rest room where I could hear OUR SERVER calling our table the black table or all the black people !!!! If you aren't business professional and black they don't want you in there. We spent over 500 on the bill with a big tip!! I won't be coming here ever again!!
The Sunday brunch at District is fantastic. The first time I went I was a bit hesitant because I heard it was a buffet. Buffet makes me think lesser quality. This is certainly not the case with District. Their ceviche is delicious! Biscuits and gravy were on point and do not miss their greens and homemade spicy chicken sausage. The food is quality, the staff were great and they didn't skimp on the mimosas. :)
Food & atmosphere were not an issue, the service & wait staff that started off amazing, but crashed & burned at our expense. After poor service we were told that the bar wanted to comp shots. Little did we know the waitress was included in this round of drinks but we were billed for her shot with gratuity included because of the 7 person party.
Of course the restaurant wasn't supposed to know about this.
It's unfortunate because we were with family, celebrating a birthday and late Mother's Day gift.
Not sure I will ever recommend this place to anyone.
Nice looking menu, cute area. However, definitely a bar, with only a few tables, and mostly couches. They seem very understaffed (though it wasn't full, it was busy), and took 15 minutes to find someone to see if they had our reservation. We then ordered a 1/2 dozen oysters, drinks, and fries. We got our drinks promptly, and they were quite nice, and the fries perhaps 45 minutes later. However, After three times talking to the waitress, and 1.5 hours, never got the oysters. Not sure we'd go back unless they get a few more servers.
We came here in the late afternoon after a local concert and were blown away by the delicious dishes. Everything was tasty and inventive. We like small dishes. Among the ones we got were fennel salad, Brussels sprouts, beef sliders, lamb meat balls.
We ordered the house wine (1 white and 1 red) but were good.
We came in around 6pm on a Saturday evening and the place was mellow. It's a good space and I imagine that it's jumping later in the evening!
Wonderful, lively, eclectically diverse restaurant with a gorgeous bar, a FABULOUS wine/cocktail/beer selection, amazingly varied and comfortable seating, and delicious food. We were there during brunch, so it was a bit over-the-top regarding noise levels (LOTS of very happy people!), but the loud environment wouldn't deter us from going back for more delicious food & drink...see you again soon, District!!!
District was great as always. It is our go to restaurant before the warriors games. They have a big screen tv for the nights that the Dubs are on the road. The craft cocktails are always good but the bar can get busy so order two when you first get there so you don't have to wait for your second drink! All the food is consistent, but the pizza is the Best. The crust can't be beat. My wife is a pizza afficianado and this is her favorite pizza place-note: we have had pizza all over the bay area and this pizza is the Best. Sliders are delicious. This is a fun place if you go with a group and like to share food. Go enjoy, love the atmosphere!
There seemed to be some conflict with whether District is a bar with a restaurant or a restaurant with a bar. There was no dining room, the 2 top that we were at was wobbly and we were surrounded by bar patrons. There was a extremely long wait for drinks, the food was mediocre at best and we left after 2 small plates.
this is a bar not a restaurant.
Brunch was fun although they should've pre-planned for a larger than usual Sunday brunch crowd given it was the day before a holiday. Brunch is served buffet style and there was never a time when all of the food was available at one time (with over 1 hour prior to the end of brunch). WHO RUNS OUT OF BACON???? Uggggh. Both times that I went for a plate, I was left scraping for the left overs. The food is really good by the way. What made it tolerable is that the host doesn't mind pitching in and he made sure our table had plenty of mimosas (which always makes everything alright), and he does it with a smile. Our actual server....not so much. She was probably overwhelmed, but after seating us, she only stopped by our table to say that brunch was almost over (last call), and to drop off/pick up the check. All in all though, it's a fun spot and I'll definitely be back.
The food was good, but the restaurant was slammed, and so our server was overwhelmed, and didn't take our food order for over 30 minutes, then forgot a few second-round cocktails that were ordered. It wasn't her fault, but our service was lacking, and the restaurant was clearly short-handed.
