District Kitchen is a casual neighborhood restaurant located half a block away from Woodley Park Metro. Our mission is to highlight the Mid-Atlantic's best naturally raised and local ingredients and pair the creation with the best wines available, local draft beers and hand crafted cocktails. We strive to source the freshest seasonal and regional produce whenever possible, and our meals are prepared with the utmost care and attention by our talented culinary team. .

Food was excellent. Unfortunately after we got done with the food and were still looking at dessert menu (about 1.5 hours after we got seated), the person managing the seating asked us to leave because they had another reservation for our table shortly after.
First of all, there were still plenty of seating around (half of the tables still available at that point), secondly, it is not customer’s responsibility to manage the seating - we didn’t know what reservations the restaurant was getting, neither were we informed that we can only stay up to a certain time at the time we got seated.
Split a chicken tikka with a friend. Delicious sauce and basmati rice. Chicken was a little dry but did not detract from the delicious sauce. They have 1/2 portions which also appealed to us. Wine was very good. Service excellent. Desserts are made in-house. My friend loved her key lime pie. The bread pudding was fabulous and plentiful. Don't know if I would call it a special place, but would return if I had a friend staying at one of the two hotels near by.
Came for dinner with my husband and service was very good, I thought almost all the dishes were fine. We had a few smaller dishes- the tuna was good, the corn was tasty. The pasta dish was good but maybe too rich, the brussell sprouts needed to be cooked more and the asparagus was average (sauce was not the best on it?). This place is a good neighborhood place, saw lots of families and kids there. For a night out/date, not sure this is the place but can see locals enjoying it.
I so enjoyed the cozy, red-brick-and-mortar environment of this friendly, well attended Conn Ave haunt that I have to write to encourage others to try it. I arrived Wednesday evening this week by train from NYC, famished. Getting out at the Woodley Park/Zoo station, it was one of a small string of neighborhood restaurants. I walked into and out of every other one first because each was mostly empty. But District was lively, had a daily special— a burger entree with fries and beer at the bar for $17.
(Note to admin) I was disappointed to learn that Burger meant only a meat burger. Not a meat eater, I kindly expressed that offering a daily special only for some patrons was a mistake and to offer veggie burgers too, or change to a fish and beer at the bar.
I chose the grilled salmon, two six oz tender pieces on a bed of lucious fava beans with artichoke fried between, was delicious. It was plenty to satisfy my considerable appetite. What’s more, the waiter was tuned in and friendly; he helped me order a half salad that was not on the menu, and very fairly charged me $4. I can’t say enough how far such flexibility and good listening skills go with me. Who would not appreciate consideration like that?
As a result (I was in the area for days for a conference), I scheduled a lunch meeting there the following day with several professionals, and got the same waiter, which was great, and added a very personal sort of warmth to his service because we remembered each other. Super. Go eat at District. The food is wholesome and well prepared, the wine is equally well priced and well chosen and you can’t beat being served by staff trained—and supported—in pleasing the customer. What does tht say? You can trust the food. Not easy to feel in moderately priced restaurants today.
We came to District Kitchen on a beautiful October Sunday and enjoyed dining on their small front patio area. The inside looks nice too but it was an outside kind of day. We ordered brunch food: the tomato and burrata salad, tomato soup, ham & eggs benedict, and a bellini. The salad was ok and the soup looked good, but the benedict was served lukewarm and the english muffins were untoasted, with only a small amount of sauce. It was nicely presented but not delicious. We asked about getting bread to go with our soup and salad but apparently that's not a thing. So I had a pleasant outing here but probably will try somewhere else to eat next time I'm in the neighborhood.
Excellent variety of offerings. I enjoyed crab and corn bruschetta appetizer. Entree was sautéed halibut over vegetable medley. The halibut was excellent but the vegetables may have been better--fava beans, corn, onions, cherry tomatoes. Side dish of grilled asparagus. Finished with a few cheeses. Wine selection simple but well selected and fairly priced. Service was helpful and enthusiastic. Unpretentious decor belies the sophistication level of the cuisine. I will definitely return. Many thanks for a lovely dining experience.
My favorite neighborhood spot for a delicious, reliable, fairly priced meal. I miss the Caesar salad (it's one of the few vegetarian ones in the city!), but the beer and orange salad is tasty, well-dresses, as has humboltd fog; it's a real winner. Our first server seemed a little distracted but a more familiar one took over and it was perfect as always. Thanks!
The evening started out well but quickly went downhill. The service alone warrants one star. There were long periods of time between meals where we were waiting on our server. I started to look around and noticed she was virtually the only one in the room with a sense of urgency. Expect she was essentially the only inside server and was even behind the bar mixing the drinks! This place would do well to hire more staff. The starters were delicious. The main course - we both had halibut - was nothing special. The fish was slightly over cooked and had little flavor. The vegetables were fresh and tasty however. The desserts felt like they were prepared days ago and kept cold - cremeburle and key lime pie. Not a great exeperience.
My uber driver recommended District Kitchen so we gave it a try. The food was outstanding. My husband ordered the paella and said it was the best he'd ever had. I had the shrimp and polenta - OMG I was licking the plate. Nice casual food and atmosphere. Recommended
My first experience was a very positive one. I met a client here for a first time meet -n- greet meeting, as District Kitchen is near her office. The waiter was very friendly and informative. Never had to look for him. I had the house special for the day, and though the halibut had to be replaced with salmon, it was incredible - fresh, visibly appealing and unique flavors. Casual and quiet atmosphere. I will definitely come back to check out dinner and maybe brunch!
District kitchen is a really great local spot for brunch as well as dinner. Highly recommend the breakfast egg sandwich, the brioche bun is incredible and the ingredients are all really fresh. My partner ordered the eggs Benedict which he said was a bit salty, which could have very well been the ham used. Great coffee too! It's nice and quiet, great service and never too crowded. This is an awesome neighborhood spot that I will definitely be returning too.
My friend and I met here for dinner before a conference at the nearby Marriott. We loved the food and service. Because the restaurant was filled with our conference participants, the space was very full and very noisy. It was a bit hard to talk over dinner (not a big deal for us, but be warned if you are looking for a quiet place to do business over dinner). We split the roasted beet salad (it was excellent) and the brussels sprouts (OMG - SO GOOD). She had the half order of salmon, which she said was perfect after a long day of travel. I had a delicious chicken with basmati and roasted vegetables. I'm on a tough, restricted diet (GF, DF, and more) and was able to find plenty to work with on the menu. Also - the wait staff were extremely friendly, patient and accommodating even though they were overrun that night. I highly recommend the District Kitchen!
In DC on family vacation and starved for good food without an attitude until we found District Kitchen! Amazing Paella and muscles, fantastic fries with the hanger steak. So good and friendly we went back the next night. Yummy salmon in a sambucca broth, great spicy shrimp, voluptuous heirloom tomato salad. Brownie Sundae was just that. There is a quote on the board from Julia Child, "People who love to eat are always the best people." That is how they treat you in this delicious and refreshingly original restaurant.
This place blew our expectations out of the water. We were in a rush to make a show and had asked the Chef to prepare some appetizers to be at our table when we got there as soon as the doors opened so we could eat and run. UNFORTUNATELY for us, the craft cocktails and beers were TOO good and we had to order a second round. Lol
The food was seriously unbelievable. The atmosphere was cozy but chic. The whole place was a knockout and a true gem for that neighborhood.
We can't wait to return. The Chef is a magician. Ask for the octopus appetizer. I've never had anything like it. The tuna poke bowl and the fried soft shell crab were equally as good.
There was absolutely nothing we did not love about District Kitchen.
The service was terrible - it was just two of us for dinner and we were kept waiting for over 15 minutes for drinks, dessert, and our check. The waiter then proceeded to leave a dirty wine glass (not ours) on our table, and then the manager spilled a ton of water on my purse and didn't apologize.
Second time to District Kitchen and will be back again! This time, brought it my coworkers and they all had a great time. Server was attentive & the food was delicious. 3 of us got tuna poke (amazing). We all shared the sweet & spicy cauliflower, roasted brussels sprouts with pecan and vanilla maple syrup & roasted street corn (the best!!). We had a Vegetarian in our group who got the Potato Gnocchi, really excellent choice! Overall, great dining experience.
