Usually eat here before theatre.
It's very loud which limits conversation.
My companions vegan mash came to the table cold. Staff quickly remedied this with gentility and apology.
My omelette was tasty and the right temperature. I recommend tho the vegan meatless loaf dinner, my usual choice.
This time I chose from the brunch menu.
Wasn't a great meal but being brunch it's not like fine dining.
If only the noise of music was not so loud the ambiance would be more condusive to
eating with a companion.
Delicious!!! One of the better restaurants I have been to in a long time. Had dinner before seeing “beautiful “. Food and drinks were fantastic. Service was good. Will definitely be back.
Good atmosphere, nice place, and the food was pretty good (I appreciate the well labelled vegan options) but not on par with the best restaurants in the area. I ate the vegan burger and aspects of it were good - the patty, vegan mayo - but overall it was a little dry and average with unimaginative elements like a far too large and stiff piece of lettuce on the small burger.
Bowl of Zen - amazing!!
Good food at good prices. Generous prices. Very noisy.
Food is good but the service is ssslllllooooowwwww. We were there at 5:00 - almost empty restaurant. Waited quite a while to be greeted and much longer to receive a drink.
Food was bang average. Service was decent. Super loud, weird layouts.
But most importantly, really average food. We had to return one dish as it tasted really bad.
We selected District Eatery for a work lunch because of the menu variety. Those who had the vegan/trendy food options (zen bowl, charcoal flatbread) enjoyed them; those who chose more traditional (piri piri chicken, chicken sandwich) did not. The food took a while for lunch.
Admittedly I found it a little difficult to locate on the street as other than a big scripted sign above the restaurant (that's really hard to read from under the restaurant), there were no other signs on the door or windows. The food was good but a little light on the key flavours in the menu description. A lot of items had sesame seeds and as they are a major allergy, found the menu a little challenging to navigate although they did accommodate as much as possible. BIGGEST ISSUE: upon arrival of our first guest, they crossed off the reservation. When the next two, then one arrived, they said they didn't have a reservation for us yet our first guest had been seated at a table in the back while we sat waiting for her in the front. UGH!
We are vegan and appreciate the many vegan options on the menu. Food and service was excellent.
The service was impatient and very rude. She looked upset when I request some changes to the plate for dietary reasons. She seemed in an urge for my party and I to leave the restaurant. I am dissapointed about the service.
we were going to the theatre and found this restaurant to be very conveniently located. it was a busy and vibrant atmosphere which we enjoyed. the service was very good as was the food. the food was a bit slow in coming but we had lots of time so it wasn't a problem. we would go back again
we all enjoyed our dinner. My food sensitivities were handled very well and my dinner came exactly as I ordered it. We will return to this restaurant in the future
The service wasn't great. When I asked for a meat replacement, I was told that the veggie option wasn't tasty and then told there was no other option. It was a mediocre experience overall
From the moment we entered the front door, we were greeted with a friendly hello. Wait staff were great. Very engaged. Made recommendations. She even double checked for allergies. Overall a great experience. We have visited 3 times now. My wife and I have made District Eatery a favourite destination for pre theatre date nights. Thank you very very much.

Good menu for many different types of diets. Those with no restrictions will also enjoy.
Service was very slow, waitress never came back to ask how our meal was, so we sat with a spilled dressing container for the meal. The portion size was smaller than the last time I went.
The menu was wonderful and very inclusive, my boyfriend and I absolutely loved all the options for our very different diet preferences. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious, very unique choices. Our drinks were quite special as well, specifically the rhubarb-fennel gin fizz.
We did struggle to get our servers attention throughout the evening, from the almost ten minutes it took to be directed to a table to struggling to order another round of drinks. She was perfectly pleasant when she did serve us, just not attentive.
My go to for making a reservation last minute and for an easy place to hang out. The fish and chips was ok, not the most amazing, sangria was good. The service wasn’t too busy but our waitress wasn’t always around and she wasn’t that friendly
Attended for a business lunch with 3 people, including myself. I had a vegan option - "meatless"loaf, one had a vegetarian option - pasta, one had a meat option - club sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I personally really liked the meatless loaf. The loaf itself was tasty, although the gravy was a plus. Roasted veggies and mash were outstanding. Seating was spacious. Ambiance was open, bright, perhaps a little on the loud side for my taste, but didn't impede conversation, although the restaurant wasn't full to capacity either. Service was good. I don't get downtown much, but would definitely go back if the opportunity arises.
Really enjoyed my later afternoon food here!!
District has a healthy take on fish and chips, that I really enjoyed along with the vegan kale Cesar salad.
Would highly recommend
Dinner before theatre.
Server was not very attentive
Love the mushroom toast!
Reasonable drink prices. Menu had a good variety of gluten free and vegan options. Food was tasty. Service was lackluster.
Great vibe, nice bar area and the bartenders were great! Food was delicious and the cocktails are fun and tasty. House wine is good and $1/oz.. no complaints there
Went on a recommendation. Food and service were both great. Server went over the menu when we asked for suggestions. Very helpful and what we chose was delicious Restrooms are in the basement. Ladies room needs some work. Only 1 of 3 stalls had functioning locks.
food takes a really long time to come but it is very tasty.
We went for a gluten free vegan experience. Nice surprises. The best was the pulled cauliflower!! Excellent deserts also. Stir away from the coffee/espresso...
The food was amazing! Very creative and absolutely delicious. I had the naan nachos and would definitely recommend getting them. My friend and I did a little tapas style dinner and shared every dish we got, which is what I recommend doing. You can eat any man or ap by yourself but there are so many good things and they are all so different so I recommend sharing. And it’s not just vegan food they have food option for every diet which is great! In terms of cost. The food was worth it’s price. My friend and I shared two mains and an appetizer, which ended up being 22 dollars (minus alcohol). This is my second time going and I would 100% go again.
I ordered a gluten-free grilled cheese that arrived on regular bread. I'd already taken a couple bites before confirming with the waitress that it was, indeed, gluten-free, to which she replied honestly that there had been a mistake...
She promptly returned the sandwich to the kitchen and brought out the sandwich on gluten-free (much smaller portion than the regular version!!) and was incredibly apologetic. Prior to the mishap, she asked if she could get me a second drink and I said no, thanks. When a second drink arrived, I assumed this was as an apology for the sandwich mistake; however, both the sandwich and the drink I didn't order appeared on the bill.
Luckily I'm not Celiac (just sensitive to gluten), but I believe this could've been handled better. The food here was pretty good but small portions for the price and sub-par service.
Food and ambience was great, our female server (Jade) was by far amazing. However, the male server that night was extremely rude to my fiancé and I, after getting the manager involved he talked about us to other customers. Very poor service on his part. Restaurant would prosper more without him.
LOVED this place! Special shout out to our waitress who brought my daughter’s raspberry soda with a sparkler!
Fun spot with a creative drink menu. Good food at reasonable prices.
Amazing food!! They are so creative with vegetables and some unique ingredients. Service not as good but would definaely go back as loved the food.
Great menu. Delicious food. Healthy dishes. Vegan options. Great prices. Good ambiance. Would highly recommend.
Remembered this as Hush. Pre theatre dinner enjoyed and would do again the flank steak was excellent also the flourless torte
Overall good. The grilled cheese is good, the Mediterranean flatbread less so. Good options for vegetarians and the staff was quick and efficient.
Went for Summerlicious. The choices were very limited, and too similar. We were disappointed a number of times. When we close our preferred drinks, 3 of 4 were told they had run out last night. 2 out of 4 were not able to get our 1st choice off of their already limited menu. There was 3 different times that plates/glasses were dropped and broken in the kitchen. One of those times was directly on top of a food order. The wait staff was also understaffed and overworked.
Overall, we were disappointed with our dining experience at the District Eatery. Three of us had the Summerlicious menu and one person ordered off the regular menu. There were lots of vegetarian/vegan options which is great, but the food was somewhat boring overall. It took about 45 minutes to get our appetizers and when they finally came, they did not seem particularly fresh (eg. the hummus on the trio plate came with a "skin" on it - likely from being under a heat lamp for too long). The protein plate was ok - the steak was probably the tastiest thing we tried. The chicken karrage salad was ok (chicken was tasty - kale salad was somewhat boring). Initially when we ordered, we were told that they had run out of the vegan cheesecake (which was fine by us - that's not what any of us wanted). However, when the desserts finally came (another long wait after the entrees were done), we were told that they no longer had any berries and cream (I'm not sure how a restaurant runs out of such simple ingredients), so they brought a vegan cheesecake instead for me. I never wanted that in the first place and I wasn't impressed that they just presumed what I wanted instead of the dessert I ordered rather than asking me for my 2nd choice. I asked for the chocolate torte instead and it was ok, but not great. Overall, we were all disappointed in this dinner experience - it certainly seems to be overrated when I look at other reviews.
We booked the table on the rooftop patio, but we got it in the restaurant instead on the patio.
The second thing was quality of the food, we ordered curry and district bowl, the both dishes were dissapointment, totally unseasoned, in the first one you could barely taste the curry sauce.
