Upscale comfort food with well crafted cocktails. A cool vibe and really friendly service. My only negative is that the booth benches are so low that unless you are over 6’2” - you will feel like you need a booster seat. I loved the duck entree as well as the pretzel baguette along with the old fashioned cocktail. Pretty reasonably priced for DC near the DuPont Circle.
The food was excellent. Our server was overly enthusiastic in a very fake and off putting manner.
I went to District Common for a Sunday lunch with friends, and I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. It was easy to find a table, and the service was excellent.
Met with old friends for brunch who were in town for the weekend. We all really enjoyed our meals and shared with each other. I liked absolutely everything. Our waiter was patient and the food came quickly. We lingered and caught up at the table and felt comfortable doing so. It was a great experience. We had a reservation for 11:15 and they sat us right on time. I will definitely go back.
We enjoyed our visit to District Commons. The waiter was very attentive and the food was great. The only strange thing was for how attentive the waiter was he brought my husband the wrong beer, twice. It was fine though. We enjoyed the booths in the back which are very private and quiet, perfect for a date, special occasion, or discreet business meeting.
The food was great but the service was even better. Everyone enjoyed everything. Definitely a great spot
Super reliable pre-Kennedy Center drinks and dinner!
Our server was great, the food was delicious, and the waiting time is minimal for food. Great place!
I don't normally leave reviews, but I have to this time. When I found out that my friends were coming to town, I picked District Commons at random because it was in the right location and had a 6:30pm availability for 5 (3 adults, 2 kids). I'm so glad I did. Not only is the restaurant beautiful, but our server, Michael, was AMAZING: friendly, accommodating, and wonderfully attentive. He's probably one of the best servers I've ever had (and I eat out a lot). Not only did Michael make us feel right at home and take great care of us - making recommendations on the menu, finding chicken fingers and fries for our youngest diner, and checking on us regularly - but our food was soooooo good (I'm still thinking of those crab cakes). AND, to boot, we received, not one, but TWO complimentary treats after our dessert - a plate of coconut macaroons AND another plate of several assorted bite-sized sweets. My friends and I hadn't seen each other in years, but, despite lingering, we were not rushed to leave and give up the table - to the contrary, as you can see, they not only allowed us to stay, but made it so we didn't want to leave! I can't recommend District Commons more highly, and I thank Michael for making our evening so WONDERFUL!
What a great restaurant. We keep coming back for an “every day meal” and always leave thinking we just had a a really special meal on a week night and feel spoiled. Great location, great food, amazing service. We’ll be back again soon.
It was good.
Both the roast duck and the brick-pressed chicken were moist and flavorful. The pretzel baguette was a nice way to start the meal. Great value compared to other restaurants in the area.
Food was average. Service was decent
This was a great brunch spot! Very convenient as it is right off the foggy bottom metro stop, so it is easy to meet up. I went for a birthday brunch with family and it was great - I had the coconut pancakes and they were delicious. Another person got the huevos rancheros and said it was very spicy but also very good. They brought out a nice complementary dessert for the occasion. I think the highlight was our server - he was very funny, attentive, and helpful. They do offer bottomless mimosas but $16 seemed a little steep, however it is D.C. and that was my only complaint!
Although we arrived at 6:40, we still hadn't been served by 7:10, even though the waiter was told we had a theater to catch and had to be out of there before 7:30. At 7:15, after flagging the manager, the food was rushed to us and we had time only to gobble a portion. According to my wife, the meatloaf was terrible. The fish special-of-the-day was adequate. We are not likely to return.
Incredible food and incredible service, start to finish.
I went to District Commons for my birthday brunch last Saturday.
The food was overly salty and out of our party of 5, 3 orders came out wrong. To be fair, the staff had no problem correcting the orders.
I chose the place because of the bottomless mimosa option, I had to ask 3 times for refills for the table and the mimosas were primarily orange juice.
I would not at all recommend the restaurant for bottomless brunch.
We paid around 50/person plus tax and tip.
The value and cost did not match up to me.
Our waiter did bring a nice birthday surprise which was very much appreciated, thank you.
Fish and chips were not crispy and borderline soggy. Service was attentive and not overbearing.
The Applebees style food would be better at Applebees.
The service was excellent. Our waiter went out of his way to correct a problem. My blackened fish was originally undercooked. He took care of it right away and did not charge us for the dessert course. Once properly cooked, the fish was very delicious. Would definitely return
Great restaurant. Very convenient and appropriately classy as a pre-Kennedy Center dining venue. Our waitress was amazing. A classic, trained, professional waitress. Wonderful manner. She asked if we were attending a theater event, which we were, and said that she would bear that in mind as a time/goal that we needed to keep. The food was wonderful, and the wine selections superb. A little pricey, but you pay for quality, ambiance, and location. Excellent all around.
Really good atmosphere, it is more on the quiet side. All the servers and workers there were very nice and attentive. The food is a bit on the pricier side, but it very delicious.
This is a wonderful addition to the neighbor. I have enjoyed The District Commons a number of times, recommend it, and returned enthusiastically. This particular visit was not as great as others. The noise where we were seated was way above dinner conversation level. It was very difficult to even carry on a conversation. (Service was only okay.) I will, of course, return and hope for a better experience.
Was disappointed in food-found it only mediocre. For instance found trout pallid and bland. Crab cakes only mediocre also. Oysters were fresh and flavorful. Pimento cheese fitters interesting.
I am a regular patron of District Commons. It never disappoints me. The service is always great. The people are friendly and the food is delicious.
Went here to eat dinner with a group of colleagues, and it was not good. I had the skirt steak, and it was fine. However, a few of my colleagues got the meatloaf and it was super dry and nasty. Will not be going back here.
Food is consistently average. Not awesome, not terrible. Something for everyone. Service was excellent. Prices are a bit high.
Food was good, though a bit expensive for the offering. Service was slow. Supervisor stepped in to help.
We sat at bar instead of table and bartenders were incredible. The white mussels are outstanding and a must have dish! My husband got the pork shank and spaetzel which was a huge portion and so tasty! I had the shrimp and grits which was also outstanding.
The place is loud and crowded - and I enjoyed the bar seating I think more than I would have enjoyed a table (due to the noise volume).
This is a good destination if you're going to a Kennedy Center show. Service was lightning fast, and food arrived quite promptly. My biggest complaint...the noise. If you're in the dining area nearest the bar it is virtually impossible to have a conversation over dinner. And it's still loud even after the happy hour crowd shrinks.
Great spot for kiddos! It was a bit loud, but I did go on a Friday at happy hour, so should have known. Food was great, service was friendly and excellent. I have been before for lunch and have always enjoyed the food.
It was a business lunch, I was lucky the restaurant to have it at 2 pm. It was almost empty and quiet. The food was delicious as usual the Mediterranean salad and the pretzel bread were delicious as usual. The service was great and responsive. I will come back.
Great “Burger” guys!
Frequent visitor to DC. Wasn’t up to par today. Felt rushed during lunch. Member of loyalty club for many years - not I need the treats after lunch, there was no acknowledgement of being a loyalty member.
Disappointing this time. I've dined here many times and it's always been good to very good. I frequently get the fish and chips, and it is usually exceptional - big pieces, perfectly fried, flaky and tender. I got the fish and chips this time, and it was awful - small pieces, tasted like fish skin, somewhat tough perhaps because overcooked, didn't taste fresh. I don't know if they switched types of fish, fish suppliers, the recipe or what - but it was a huge let down. I would have complained, but that would have been awkward for a business lunch. My lunch companion also got the fish and chips, and I was embarrassed I had recommended it. I'll go back, but I doubt I'll get the fish and chips again.
Party of 6 - every menu item received - aside from the pretzel roll - was unsatisfactory.
My Wife and I were in DC to do the average tourist visits. After a full day at Arlington cemetery and the Mall area, we were exhausted. We did want to have a nice dinner, as our anniversary was this same week. District Commons provided exactly what we were looking for. The Food was spot on, and our server was as vibrant as anyone could be. Ross was over the top compared to the servers we have experienced at other restaurants. We live on a very tight budget, and dining at a quality restaurant is a rarity. We have been extremely disappointed at times when we explore a restaurant normally outside of our budget. When I pay premium pricing for a steak, I expect it to be as good as or better than I cook at home. This time was not disappointing at all. We sincerely Wish to thank the fine individuals at District Commons for our dining experience.
Very good overall
The food was fantastic! We had the skirt steak, shrimp and grits, and the pan fried scallops. Phenomenal!! Definitely recommend. Make reservations.
Nice atmosphere, food was excellent as was the service. The pretzel bread was wonderful.
