About Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Troy
The Syracuse-based barbecue phenomenon plunked a sprawling roadhouse with all the familiar back-road accoutrements into an abandoned meat factory. Unfinished wood-beamed ceiling, burlap bag curtains, scattered country bric-a-brac, and an enthusiastic greeting feel worlds away from the city. The roll call of devotees includes area families, couples on casual dates and groups of RPI students.
Though fried green tomatoes and punchy boiled shrimp start things off right, the smell of smoking meats quickly adjusts the focus. The smokey-sweet pork ribs gently release from the bone and the Texas brisket, a touch dry, gets a lift from a topping of tangy cured jalapeños and a dash of hot sauce. It's even safe to venture from red meat with the truly moist and tender chicken, brined then smoked for deep flavor. With the exception of the cakey corn bread, sides keep pace, with tangy Creole potato salad and sweetened baked beans the standouts.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Troy Ratings and Reviews
I took my son and a friend. It was one of my son’s birthday presents combined with a concert afterward.
We were immediately welcomed by our super helpful and friendly server, and absolutely everything we ordered was just delicious. So much so that we had a tough time not eating every scrap and were stuffed!
That’s an observation, not a complaint!
We look forward to coming back.
This was my first time. I had a good time. The food was good. However, waitress forgot my salad. I was there for the live band, but your sound equipment wasnt working. PLEASE give Peter Annello another opportunity to play. I will come again. Thank you kindly!
We went on a Sunday at 2:30 and it was pretty busy. The hostess asked if we would like to eat inside or on the patio. We said patio and were given direction on how to get there rather than being taken there. Upon finding our way there we looked and found out there were no tables open. We walked back through the restaurant to the hostess desk and informed her there were no open tables. She looked at us and said "Oh" grabbed two menus and walked away expecting us to just follow her I guess. We were seated and even with the poor start the food made up for it. I would recommend to ask for BBQ sauce to be put on the side rather than on the meat. Sauce was good just a bit to much of it for my taste. We will definitely go back again.
Our server, Tanya, was excellent! However, the food, not so. Way too much pepper...much more than normal. The 1/4 chicken was overcooked. This is not normal. Maybe the kitchen was having a bad day?!?! Hopefully next time we come back, things will go back to normal!!
The service at this restaurant was absolutely terrible. We dined there this past Friday night with our two grandchildren 10 and 8 years old. Our waiter was friendly, took our order then disappeared. We had no napkins or silverware. When he brought the children their sodas he just put two soda bottles down on the table and left. We had to flag him down to get glasses and straws. Meanwhile people are being seated and served their meals before we even got our appetizer! It took a half hour for the appetizer to arrive, nachos! Still no silverware! We had to wait another half hour for our food to arrive, then had to wait for him to get our silverware another 5 minutes. Meanwhile people who came in after us are leaving! He never gave us a bucket for our bones and had my granddaughter's order wrong. Our table looked like a garbage dump! Since he never gave us towelettes, we were piling up dirty napkins all over the place! Unfortunately, the food was good and the other employees we had contact with were pleasant, but I will not be returning for fear of getting the same type of service.
We were seated in the bar area. As our drinks arrived the band began to play. They were not very good and VERY loud.
Our server was very gracious and found us a table at the opposite end of the dining room so we could hear ourselves speak.
The food was delicious and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. Just be careful about the music.
Our original request was for a special occasion, one of the main reasons was to be close to the band stand. The young lady proceeded to seat us halfway in back no place close to the stage. I had to get into a conversation and asked her if she read our request "no" she replied. Just then another waiter broke into the conversation and found us a good table. We had a great time after that little thing.
I love the food here and it didn't disappoint, great BBQ and great RIBS. My only complaint is that service is always very quick and rushed, never enough time to relax and have another drink.
On this night our server was particularly surly, a smile and conversation would have been nice.
