Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Stamford Ratings and Reviews
Made the reservation for a team dinner as my European colleagues had never had barbecue. They were so excited! Sadly, I feel that Dinosaur BBQ left much to be desired.
We got to the restaurant a little early and decided to have a drink at the bar. We let the host (also our server) know and he said we could be seated when ready. After being seated it took quite a while for him to take our drink orders and even longer to take our food orders. I actually had to flag him down.
We finally ordered and got all our food. It was delicious per usual except we didn't get any cornbread. I didn't say anything, but it was quite upsetting that no one got any and we told them how good it was.
Needless to say, our European team were somewhat pleased but aren't excited to go back as it didn't live up to the high expectations we promised them.
It was my hubby 50th bday. All he wanted was to go there. He's been there many times for business lunch. I was really happy with the sweetheart deal. Meal for 2. I was very pleased with my bill. It is our plans to come there at least 3x a month. Food was delicious!!!
Second visit to this location, numerous times at the one in Rochester. Food's always been great, never found an item on the menu I didn't like . This one's located in a nice area, plenty of parking and easy access from I95. We took friends for their first visit and they enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. It is noisy, even when it's not packed, so it's not a place for a romantic dinner but take the kids.
hostess was great. Asked if we wanted a booth or table . Sat at our table and waitress came right away. Took drink order got drinks ,we needed more time to decide. 5 minutes later our order was in . Simple 2 orders of pick 2 combos both wings with mash potatoes and fries with a a rib/chicken combo with fries and mash an a 3 combo meal of chopped bbq/brisket/pork belly with mash and Mac and cheese. 25 minutes later food came and that was the last I saw our waitress until 20 minutes later when I stopped her from walking by. No drink refills or to see if we needed anything. could have walked right out she never would have noticed. I eat a lot of bbq from down south and not even close a little disappointed
As long as you know what to expect, this is place is a good place for occasionally having lunch with friends. The service is pretty slow on average, and it's quiet loud in here so if you're thinking of having a business lunch or if you work and expect a quick lunch, be forewarned. My favorite thing to order here are the BBQ'd chicken and Dino poutine and for the sides I like BBQ fried rice or their Mac'n Cheese. The ribs and pulled pork are sometimes good, but I would stay away from the brisket, it tends to be on the dry side. I think the place used to be better when it first opened, but the quality/service have gone downhill since about a year ago. Maybe this is due to their aggressive expansion plans.
The ambience was cool, very southern comfort and rustic vibe. The service was VERY POOR, unfortunately, I think we got stuck with a not so great server. She was NOT friendly, not warm and inviting by any means. I had asked for one of the appetizers to come with with onion relish on the side and she responded with "really", very attitude-y. Then proceeded to continue to ask me why and if I was getting it on the side why just not get it at all. Maybe because I wanted it in moderation... VERY RUDE. I don't think she smiled once, she really ruined the vibe for us to be honest. The appetizers were great, our meals were average, most of the meals were cold.
Disappointed by service and customer service. We made a reseveration via Open Table, upon arrival the host didn't act like that reservation meant anything, and offerred us a table in the bar area. Ok, we can deal with that. We get settled in, got drinks, service is slow, the bar tender is waiting on us, as well as having to deal with his own customers at the bar. Ok, we're not is a terrible rush. We all traveled for a birthday dinner and everyone is set to order their signature offering, "Ribs". It's now 30minutes after we got seated, and finally we are placing an order. The first person of our group asks for 1/2 rack of ribs. The waiter looks at us, and says, I'm sorry we're out of ribs. What? are you kidding? Oh- we've been out for the last 2 hours. Really, and no-one had the curtesoy to inform us, when we sat done. Or perhaps the host could of mentioned something. Very very disatifised with the service and experience. In their defense it was a holiday weekend, but we had reservations for 6:45. Running out of ribs 2hrs before peak time, is poor planning on their part. Secondly, their menu does have a disclaimer about running our of meat products. That didn't make anyone of us feel any better. For now Dinosaur BBQ in Stamford, is off our list of places to go to, or recommend.
Only criticism is that for the "Wild Card" beer on tap (an awesome Lawson's Sip of Sunshine Double IPA), we were not told of the $10 per pint price. Probably would have bought it anyway, but given the price premium, we would have liked to know the ticket price.
Reservation made for birthday dinner. Arrived with desert in hand and requested to have the ice cream sandwiches put in the freezer, was told by hostess and by waiter that "it's at your own risk"
Food poor, brisket was very fatty, cornbread was dry, my ribs were tasty, macaroni and cheese poor, crunch cole slaw good. Waiter not attentive, and in fact when dinner was completed, the check was put down before we could ask for the desert to be brought for our birthday dinner. My son actually bussed the table and brought over desert plates for us.
Desert brought to table, and I know understand what "it's at your own risk meant" Ice cream was placed in refrigerator and was half melted. We ate a couple bites and left.
The good news is I mistakenly left my cell phone there and when I called back was happy to hear it was retrieved and kept in safe keeping for me. Sorry for the poor review, was absolutely expecting more. Maybe because it was a Monday night, service and food was off?
Went for my mothers bday she was excited .. But i mean i got there at 3:45 for my 4 pm reservation and was told it would only be a few minutes... Had family wait in car for a.c cause we werent allowed inside... At 4:30 asked again about how long they thought and employee told me this is usually resolved quickly that this was a first. At 5 i started to get annoyed and at 5:30 after being told nothing and being one of the few families left in the parking lot i decided to leave and make the troop back to yonkers ny. At 5:38 when i was on I95 i received a phone call saying they would be closed for the rest of the evening. Love the restaurant but sunday was a real screwjob. Thanks
Dinosaur BBQ serves good but not great ribs in my opinion. Food is reasonably priced, and sides are good. Service is good and noise level was okay other than the tables scraping the floor when they were cleaning. It was only about 8:00 and they should have waited until the end of the night to perform these tasks. The moving tables sounded like nails across a chalk board and was very annoying, and it seemed to go on forever.
I have nothing to say bad about the food because they were all delicious. My only comment was on how they handle in coming guests considering that there are 3 hostess . I made a reservation for my dinner. Granted that my date and I arrived 30mins earlier than my reservation and I was told that we will be seated close to our time but I was surprised when they prioritized people who walked in after me. I only noticed this after 15 mins of waiting. And when I came up to they all seem to have forgotten that I was waiting for my table. There were a lot of tables avalable.
Was disappointed. Everything had a little hot kick to it... Even Mac and cheese. Sides were not great. Best thing we tried and we tried a lot because we we're hoping to use This place to cater a wedding, was the BBQ chicken. Unfortunately everything else did not meet expectations.
Wait staff though did a great job.
