Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Stamford Ratings and Reviews
Went here to celebrate our son’s birthday. I ordered the brisket and pulled pork combination; my son and husband ordered the brisket and ribs combination and my daughter ordered steak. The ribs were so tough that they couldn’t eat them; the steak was so chewy that she couldn’t eat it and the pulled pork and brisket were so smothered in bbq sauce that..guess what...I couldn’t eat it. It was loud; the floor sticky and filthy. Took my daughter to the restroom and the vulgar profanities scribbled on the wall were absolutely disgusting. The only good thing about our visit was our waiter was very nice.
Son plays soccer at Chelsea Piers on Saturday evenings. We come most every weekend, often with friends and family. Hostesses, wait and bus staff are friendly. Service is super quick. Food is excellent. It’s not like I’m in bbq heaven, but for a place of its size it’s damn good. Make reservations because the wait can be a hour and a half on the weekend.
The wings are great. So is the shrimp boil. The pulled pork is very good. The ribs and brisket are better.
Corn bread is legit. BBQ beans with pork is also great.
Service was spotty at best- waiter did not understand my food allergy and did not remove an item that I am allergic to from my meal. They brought be a new meal. I had to wait 25 minutes and the hamburger was raw in the inside. The only upside was that they did take it off the bill.
We eat at this restaurant often. Great ambiance and the food is terrific. Overall, from management, to the wait and bar staff, the employees are very engaging and positive. That was not the case with our hostess last week. When we entered there were two hostesses at the greeting station. I told one that we had a reservation for 6:45 and we would love a booth if possible (I had also noted as such on OpenTable). One hostess (who was pleasant) looked and found us one. The second hostess, grabbed menus and with out saying a word, started walking away. Apparently leading us to a table. We followed. She put the menus on a table, never saying a word to us and walked off. Normally, we might not take notice, but, it was so uncharacteristic of the restaurant and the employees that we have encountered that it must be noted.
There is an extensive menu, but we always order the ribs. They are wonderful. Nice selection of sides and my husband was very happy with the beer our server, Chuck, suggested. Prices are very reasonable. I like the convenience of making a reservation on Open Table. There is a large parking lot--another plus.
Not bad - I would try it again. The steak that my daughter ordered was the best dish that we received - probably because it's freshly prepared. Most everything else is pre-prepared and simply assembled when you order it (makes sense - you can't smoke pork to order). Food was good, but nothing blew us away.
We all ordered ribs based on recommendation from friends (including my wife who had tried them before at Rochester, NY) and we enjoyed it, the sauces were really good. The side dishes were 5 stars worthy, the only downside was that the ribs were a little overcooked and weren’t as soft as expected.
We love Dinosaur, but this was our first visit to the Stamford location. Either it’s gone down hill or this restaurant isn’t up to the usual Dinosaur standards. Buns were burnt, the pork was fatty, burnt and gristly. No sweet potatoes. Service was fine, but the food was lousy. Won’t be back, at least to this location. :(
As usual service was excellent. Food quality of the special entree 1/2 fried chicken was cooked perfectly. Crispy flavorful coating, not greasy with tender moist chicken throughout all pieces, two legs a thigh and breast piece. Great value and quality. The 1/2 rack of house ribs of course did not disappoint, fall off the bone cook with a tangy slightly spiced dry rubbed...excellent. Overall a consistent meal. Mixed drinks a bit pricey for their size but again in general a great meal and great service.
Initially our service was poor, as in non-existent. Finally, a waitress not assigned to our table stepped up and took care of us, having noticed no one had even brought us water after we'd been seated for about 15 minutes. After that, all was well. Food was very tasty and served promptly. This is fun bbq, not fine dining, so go with the right attitude and know you're not leaving feeling hungry.
First time here was for a party in the private room. Food was amazing and served family style. Service was fantastic.
Second time went with three others. Took a while to get waited on (I believe they weren't sure who had are table.). Once we were waited on the service was fantastic again and the food delicious!
Cannot wait to go back.
An outstanding meal introducing my son's South African in-laws to the pleasures of an American BBQ. They were very favorably impressed, and their "braai's" (South African BBQs") are more grilling than long, low cooked, smoked affairs. The food was excellent and the service provided by Marvin was exemplary! Everyone enjoyed themselves and their BBQ!
First our waiter acted like he didn't want to work that day. The person that actually brought the food out was much more pleasant. I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs, the flavor was ok on the ones I could eat. The last two ribs was so brunt and hard I wasn't even going to try them. You can get much better BBQ at other places. This was not worth the drive to Stamford in my opinion. Will be trying Walrus + Carpenter in Bridgeport.
