About Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Newark
The Syracuse-based barbecue phenomenon plunked a sprawling roadhouse with all the familiar back-road accoutrements into an abandoned meat factory. The roll call of devotees includes area families, couples on casual dates and old friends alike.
Though fried green tomatoes and punchy boiled shrimp start things off right, the smell of smoking meats quickly adjusts the focus. The smokey-sweet pork ribs gently release from the bone and the Texas brisket, a touch dry, gets a lift from a topping of tangy cured jalapeños and a dash of hot sauce. It's even safe to venture from red meat with the truly moist and tender chicken, brined then smoked for deep flavor. With the exception of the cakey corn bread, sides keep pace, with tangy Creole potato salad and sweetened baked beans the standouts. Delivery available from 11:30 Am until 8:00 PM

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Newark Ratings and Reviews
Had a problem this time. Plates were greasy and sent them back. Also I was given a gift card from a friend for $25.00. When I presented it, it came up as only $10.00. Got my friend on the phone and she confirmed $25.00 with her confirmation number which she had placed on the phone. She said on the phone when you order a gift card It has to be $25.00 and up not $10.00. The manager is suppose to follow up on this and get back with me. I was there Sunday and today is Wednesday, no call back yet.
Arrived a few minutes before our reservation at 2 for lunch and there was a line out the door and around the side of the building. They were completely overwhelmed at the check in. Apparently a Disney show just ended across the street and people had reservations but the line out the door and confusion were to much for me to handle so we left. Disappointed!!!
Took several of my colleagues out to dinner while on business in Newark. Uber driver stated not a great neighborhood on drive but clise yo Devil's stadium. Food is clearly the best BBQ around! Love the Wango Tango Wings and pick 3 meats! Everyone raved about the corn bread! Service was exceptional!
The waiter was friendly and helpful. Food was dry and hard. Meat was STUCK on the bone and over-doused with sauce. The waiter forgot about our table. We noticed that the table next to us was also left without service for a long time to the point that they asked to be moved.
Service was excellent and very attentive. Got the ribs and they were off the charts good. Juicy, tender, meaty and very tasty. The sides were excellent as well. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a casual, high-energy place and will definitely be returning here in the future.
Big fan of Dinosaur BBQ, but this wasn't as good as usual. Ribs were burnt, brisket was flavorful but on the dry side, and the pulled pork wasn't as well-seasoned as it should be. But, sides were good, drinks were good, dessert was good, and service was good. Maybe it was just an off day.
Friend and I had a craving for BBQ so we decided to drive a half hour to Dino BBQ in Newark. Service was good but the food was terrible. Ordered salmon fritters, ribs and a half chicken. Salmon fritters were 3 pieces, a joke. The ribs were probably 2 days old judging by how tough and dry it was. The chicken was passable. Just a very disappointing meal all together. Have been to Dinosaur in Brooklyn and Rochester and it's been excellent every time but Newark was beyond disappointing. Won't ever go there again.
The service was awful. The hostess was rude. I was with 6 team members for a business dinner. It took 1 hr. To get one round of drinks. They brought random plates of food that we didn't order and told us it was all they had because they were out of most food. The manager yelled at us when we shared our unfortunate experience there. He said he had to tend to someone who fell and was bleeding all over the floor. We will never return or recommend it. I hope they learn from this experience.
When I think of a bar-b-que spot, I am thinking chicken wings and fried catfish, not fried green tomatos and jerk salmon. The appetizer sampler is a must (deviled eggs, chicken wings, fried green tomatoes and shrimp). If I ever end up back there, I would order that as my entree. The jerk salmon sounded good, but there was a lot going on. Since it comes with rice and beans, you don't really need the two sides that it comes with. The beans and rice alone was good, but with the flavors on the salmon it wasn't a good combination to me. The place was packed, so don't take my experience as a way to judge it (then again, it has a great location). Review the menu before you go and if you see something you like, take a chance.
my 3rd time here-really a PruArena, next door, bar&cold food comes in 5minutes-the combo platter=17.95!corn muffin tasted wierd and stale, not heated at all0brisket had lots of fat all around the slices-the pulled pork told my guest, too sugary-I know Senator Cory Booker got this restaurant next to the Arena, but it has become really a bar-even when my guest and I went to the cell phone store on Broad st.,she said Happy Hour only!
The Fried Green Tomato's were delicious, the waiter was friendly as well. The food could have been a little better. The cornbread was burnt and tasteless. I ordered a Cuban sandwich which had more to be desired, it was sloppy and unappetizing. Everyone had things on their plate that could have used some extra spice or flavor. Overall we had a good time.
I've been here before, and it's an excellent option before an event at the Prudential Center or NJPAC. I recommend a reservation, especially during NJ Devils' hockey season. The food is predictable, but always hearty and flavorful, BBQ. I had the catfish this time around: not the best I've ever had, but no complaints. My husband had the pulled-pork sandwich, and my son had a ribs combo plate. My sides - gumbo and greens - were excellent. The lemon ice-box pie was also very good, although it took an inexplicably long time for our server to inform us that there was no more pecan pie, and to bring our dessert. She was very amiable, however, and we've usually found the staff at Dinosaur to be quite pleasant and cheerful.
I was not impressed with this restaurant. The server informed us that they were out of pulled pork and we were also informed (after we ordered it) that the shrimp from our appetizer 'may not be served before our entree'. My brisket platter was a sandwich that was cold. This place is just ok and I won't be going back.
This was my first time here and I came because my sister recommended it. I was going to the Chaka Khan concert along with my best friend visiting from North Carolina. We stopped here for drinks and food beforehand and I must say I was very impressed. The food was amazing, the drinks had the right amount of alcohol to juice ratio and the prices were even better. I will be visiting again soon but this time with the hubby.
We went as a family after a devils members event. It was the second time there for 2 of us. Food was hot delicious and served quickly. Chic wings were awesome. Cole slaw side and catfish were very good too. Staff friendly and helpful. First time with kids and they enjoyed the BBQ experience. We will be back again especially when the prudential arena is only a few steps away
Granted it was Father's Day, but that was no excuse for poor execution. Our table of four watched people come, eat, and go all around us. Drink service was slow, we had to ask for silverware, and waiting 30 minutes for our appetizer to share. Then we waited an hour for our food. They were out of ribs, so our server told us we could sub them for chicken on our tres niños sampler, but we were given just brisket platters instead (no pork no chicken) and the sides weren't even right! We were so hungry we just kept it. Manager and server were both nice enough, but considering we sat at 7:05 and didn't get entrees until 8:45, and they were not what we ordered, they should have had a sense of urgency and tried to fix the problem in the kitchen. Our server said he would comp our food, then only 20% was taken off. Paid over $100 for the worst dining experience, tipped on original bill because kitchen messed up and I felt horrible for the server, but left feeling overall disappointment. We would consider trying another location because the food we actually got was great (despite not being what we ordered) but we will NOT come back to this location.
What food actually made it to our table was cold. Some of the food was dry and the texture seemed as if it had been sitting and two of our sides tasted sour.
We had food missing from our order that never was brought to us despite asking about it and somehow there was never iced tea brewed in the 80ish minutes we were there.
We barely ate the food that we did receive and ended up getting a second fathers day dinner at a drive through on the way home, instead, as we were left hungry.
Extremely disappointed, as I had heard great things.
We arrived early but could only be seated at our scheduled reservation time - that's what the hosted stated...so we waited at the bar. The bartender was very good and we were served right away...The hostess did seat us at our reservation hour after I approached her a second time, but her reply was curt; as was her attitude with everyone who entered; so she immediately put us off. Our server was pleasant and attentive...and it was Father's Day - still the place didn't appear to be overly crowded. The food - deviled eggs, ribs, mac and cheese, greens (better than expected) & baked beans were ok - average really. It did take an hour - after we were seated - to be served...that was annoying...not sure if we'll be back.
We went here before a show at the Pru. Food was delicious, drinks were strong and the price was reasonable. As a vegetarian I was worried about my options at a BBQ place, but I was able to get a portobello sandwich that was phenomenal. If we are ever back for another event - we'll be back to dinosaur BBQ.
