About Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Harlem
The Syracuse-based barbecue phenomenon plunked a sprawling roadhouse with all the familiar back-road accoutrements into an abandoned meat factory. Unfinished wood-beamed ceiling, burlap bag curtains, scattered country bric-a-brac, and an enthusiastic greeting feel worlds away from the city. The roll call of devotees includes area families, couples on casual dates and groups of Columbia students.
Though fried green tomatoes and punchy boiled shrimp start things off right, the smell of smoking meats quickly adjusts the focus. The smokey-sweet pork ribs gently release from the bone and the Texas brisket, a touch dry, gets a lift from a topping of tangy cured jalapeños and a dash of hot sauce. It's even safe to venture from red meat with the truly moist and tender chicken, brined then smoked for deep flavor. With the exception of the cakey corn bread, sides keep pace, with tangy Creole potato salad and sweetened baked beans the standouts.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que - Harlem Ratings and Reviews
When we got there our whole party wasn’t there and the receptionist told us no problem the table was ready and to let her know. As soon as everyone showed up we were seated right away. The server was friendly and easy going. We ordered an appetizer and it was on the table 5 minutes later. Once we ordered the food it was very quick to come out. Food was very good. Kinda small portions but we got the sampler that came with 2 meats and 2 sides. Once we were done check came quickly and we were on our way. Didn’t feel rushed but was defiantly expecting a little more time at the restaurant. Defiantly would recommend.
Always heard great things from my Ithaca living sister who's gone to Syracuse restaurant several times. Thought wife, son & I from Bayside, Queens should finally try Harlem branch.
Our visit began on a late Sunday afternoon, unbelievably pulling into a legal parking spot right outside Dino BBQ...WOW, off to a great start! Our waiter was a cool, very polite guy. Food was EXCELLENT, nice size portions of the " Real McCoy". Enjoyed a drink (wife drove) which was reasonably priced. No room for dessert; we all left full. Overall we were very happy we finally did this and look forward to returning sometime soon. PS- this is a legit review, I'm not being paid for this. Steve
We were seated properly. Ordered our drinks which were very good however must have gotten mixed up because I kept getting the same drinks even though we didn't order them. Cut to the same appetizers again even though I only wanted one and then finally the food came out and everything was correct however it took a very long time. We were not in a hurry so that was good my son's love their food
I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at Dinosaur Bar B Que. The portion sizes are decent and the food was very tasty. I ordered the ribs which were very succulent and moreish. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good southern cuisine.
The brisket was recommend by all that I told I was going to Dinosaur for the first time and boy was I so disappointed. The food came out freezing cold I couldn't even eat it. When the waiter seen that I didn't eat the brisket she asked me if I wanted to take it with me and I said no throw it in the garbage.
The food was great as usual. However, I made a reservation for 13 people. & the table wasnt ready @ the specified time of 6:15p.m. (the maitre'd said we couldn't be seated because on 6 of us arrived @ 6:15p.m. & she was polite & apologized). Our appetizers arrived late 45 minutes from waiting at the bar & another waiting period for the entree (a long wait for a large group is fine , but not another 45 minutes!!! Waiter didn't provide water @ first & missed a couple drink orders, but nothing major. After only 2 hours @ the table & spending over $450 w/tip, the manager asked us to leave 2 accommodate other patrons. All of us ignored everything until that point because I told the water we would be ordering another round of drinks & possibly finger food. Being asked to move back to the bar, when other tables were opening up was uncalled for, even for a Friday afterwork.
Service was cheerful but slow. The space was kind of dirty, the tables sticky from the moment we sat down. The guy who cleared the table put his dirty, food stinky bin on the floor next to the table. He was nice, as I said, but that was sloppy. NEVER bring a dirty bin to take food to the kitchen. Carry it. I hadn't seen that in years and years. So thoughtless. The waitress was bright and cheerful to our party. I was happy that she and the other servers were happy. BUT THE SERVICE WAS SLOW to get to various stages. Maybe your understaffed?
The food was amazing. I'm still thinking about something so simple as their deviled eggs. EVERYTHING on my plate was delicious. The only negative thing I can say about my experience are the chairs. They are very uncomfortable after sitting in them for a while. Other than that I and my fiance enjoyed our evening at Dinosaur BBQ.
Went there Saturday Oct.14, with a "reservation" for 6. Once I got there the ppl in the front told us we had to wait because our table wasn't ready which made no sense because it was a reservation. We had to wait an hour which was ridiculous. One hour later we got our table and the waitress was very rude as we ordered our food she seemed annoyed, and was acting in a rush. Not only did we have to wait an eternity to get seated but the waitress didn't do her job properly which is to properly served the guests. After two people ordered drinks and were brought to them, I ordered my drink and she had the nerve to ask if we were "old enough to drink". And had to show her our Id's even though we were all 21. The entire time she had a bad vibe. On a happier note food and drinks were great
It was okay if you're in the neighborhood but if not, it's out of the way, really crowded, very loud and the cocktails were watered down. I would go there again only if I were in the neighborhood because the barbecue was good but I would not make a special trip.
the good: food was very good, we ordered way too much! Got the full rack with 4 sides to share with my GF, barely ate half of it. We'd had the appetizer platter for two first, so maybe that was our mistake.
the bad: service was up and down. jA few minutes after we sat down, without ordering, someone plunked down a single slider and a wing sampler, which we thought was an "amuse bouche"; turns out, waiter made a mistake and gave us someone else's order. We didn't get charged for it, but between the extra wings and the apps, I was full by the time dinner arrived.
the ugly: made a reservation for 7:45, and showed up right on time. Didn't get seated until almost 8:30. I understand places get busy, but 45 minutes is a problem in my book. Added to that, I'm diabetic, and I took my meds at 7:30 expecting to start eating in the next hour; by the time we got seated, my blood sugar was crashing, and I desperately ordered a Coke just to get some sugar in my system. For those who don't know, low blood sugar is life threatening, and leaves me sweating and shaky, which is not a way to start a meal.
