Welcome to the Cliff Hotel in Gorleston-On Sea, a hotel and restaurant with unrivalled views of the Norfolk and Suffolk coast.

The Cliff Hotel dates back to 1890 when the original hotel was opened, in 1915 the building was ravaged by fire and demolished. The old staff accommodation was renovated into a new hotel, the building that we currently occupy today.

We have a vast selection of dining options from our relaxed art-deco inspired MUSE restaurant, our vibrant bar dining area or one of the biggest outside dining terraces in Norfolk.

Wherever you decide to eat our menus will give you a huge variety of choice from fresh fish to steaks and grills. Alternatively we have lighter snacks and a range of classic dishes to delight all tastes.

The hotel is situated 2 minutes off the main A47 road, 17 miles east of Norwich. Nearest train station is in Great Yarmouth, a 10 minute taxi ride away. There are regular bus links to Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, the nearest bus stop is on Avondale Road. Domestic and international flights can be arranged from Norwich international airport.

Visited on 01/06/2025 and was very surprised at how bad the afternoon tea was. I gave the management over a week to recompense and rectify all issues raised. Not freshly made none of it was fresh or good including the stale hard sandwiches. I did get a pass the buck apology and agreed that it was not good and not the best of standards but still no recompense. Also that they look forward to welcoming us back but unfortunately none of my family or friends will be returning. Not paying good money for bad goods. Such a shame but no loyalty to long time frequent customers

The venue is lovely, done out really well and lovely views across the beach. The service was incredibly slow (it was not busy when we were in there), the staff seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves. The food was average, I would exect a little better for the prices paid. I will certainly use the venue again but likely not for food, just drinks... which you will receive, eventually!

Staff very attentive and helpful I had the Nut Roast and didn't enjoy it as much as other places that serve this dish. There was too much Pearl Barley in it which made it dry. Also, too little gravy. Vegetables were very good however. My partner had the Roast Beef which he said was good but the stuffing was awful. It too had pearl barley in it I believe and looked very processed. The Diet Coke was very expensive and the cost of the roast lunches was also a few pounds higher than other restaurants that serve better roasts. Love the hotel in general though and the parking was handy.

The view of the bay/harbour is probably the best in Gorleston. The food was a bit overcooked (chicken) and underseasoned (curry), but those things are to be expected in a place trying to appeal to everyone. The staff was nice and accommodated our seating requests.

The menu has changed and considerable reduced from 3 pages of choices to one page. On the bank holiday Monday we were told after we had all made our choices there was 4 items on the main courses they did not have! None of us really enjoyed our meal except for the battered haddock and pork belly. The seafood linguine was tasteless, the mussels were colourless and very gritty. The only saving grace was the mango cheese cake which was absolutely delicious 😋

Considering it was so quiet and there was a number of staff around, it was a long time before orders were taken. We even had to ask if they were doing table service. We weren't told what was unavailable at the beginning, only being told when we tried to order an item that had run out. Staff were not very aware of the surrounding - door being left open often and staff trying to get out the door to deliver food with full hands and other staff standing around not helping. It almost got to the point were we stood up to help the waitress through the door! Prices are fairly high, and while food was nice it's borderline worth the money, especially with the service being how it is.

Very disappointed with lunch today. Jacket potatoes tasted old and were hard. We then exchanged for a sandwich and the bread was hard. Have enjoyed many nice meals at The Cliff but not today. Waited 15 minutes for the manager to come and see us but nothing. Staff were very good and apologetic (not their fault). Won’t be rushing back which is a shame.
