About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for outdoor dining
Welcome to the Cliff Hotel in Gorleston-On Sea, a hotel and restaurant with unrivalled views of the Norfolk and Suffolk coast.

The Cliff Hotel dates back to 1890 when the original hotel was opened, in 1915 the building was ravaged by fire and demolished. The old staff accommodation was renovated into a new hotel, the building that we currently occupy today.

We have a vast selection of dining options from our relaxed art-deco inspired MUSE restaurant, our vibrant bar dining area or one of the biggest outside dining terraces in Norfolk.

Wherever you decide to eat our menus will give you a huge variety of choice from fresh fish to steaks and grills. Alternatively we have lighter snacks and a range of classic dishes to delight all tastes.

Why not join us for a traditional Sunday roast or a quintessentially British afternoon tea?

Our food is prepared in our kitchens to ensure the best quality and taste reaches your table.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Overall it was a nice lunch meal, however due to the fact that I did not like the table given initially I guess the waitress got a bit annoyed and didn’t acknowledge us for drinks until I made eye contact with her as we were sat for half an hour with no menus (my boyfriend got up to get the menus from the initial table given) and being avoided considering we were there for our anniversary. The food was absolutely amazing, the waitress in training with long blonde hair was very polite and did her best. We wished a bigger table as what we ordered didn’t fit the table and we asked if we can drag another table next to us but we were told no, so we had to struggle eating with no space left. We appreciate the busy times, I myself been working in hospitality for the past 8 years, however to feel that the personnel got annoyed and not getting acknowledged for half an hour just because I refused to be sat at the entrance of the outside terrace wasn’t fair on the fact that it was our anniversary and that made everything awkward and uncomfortable.

We sat ouside as a hot afternoon. Haven’t been for a while and a lot of what used to be on the ‘lunch’ menu had gone which was disappointing. 3 of us had jacket potatoes and the other two sandwiches. Whilst very tasty, the potatoes were quite small. Found it quite expensive especially as we live in London and pay similar here.

It was a prom night so they were very busy, they still tried to accomadate all the other guests who were there. Meat quality was a little low, steak was supposed go be medium rare but was well done and full of gristle. Peppercorn sauce and chips were divine. So I think the price point was a little steep. But you are paying for the view and lovely environment. Your waitresses are very attentive and tried their best even with a hectic evening!

We were greeted and taken to our table. Service started well, however, once our food was served no one came to us to ensure all was ok or to see if we required further drinks. We sat for ages at the end of our meal and plates were not collected. We eventually had to get up to find someone so we could pay the bill. Food was not good. Steak was overcooked and cold and the seafood linguine had no squid in it and one prawn which was not even cooked through. We appreciate there was a High School Prom happening at the same time but had not been warned of this and so sat most of the meal with people standing around watching teenagers arrive and guiding them to where they were to go. The ambience therefore was not pleasant to have all that going on whilst trying to eat a meal. Prior warning of this would have been nice when booking the table or even being offered a table away from where everyone was gathering would have been appreciated.

Had brunch on Sunday June22nd sitting on the outdoor terrace. All food and drinks were lovely and presentation of the terrace is good. There seemed to be some work going on behind which spoiled the lovely view a tiny bit, but didn’t really impact on the occasion overall. Great location for eating outdoors and all staff were polite and professional. Would always recommend this venue for food.

Very poor from start to finish went here for breakfast arrived with no welcome just told to sit anywhere. My wife asked if the orange juice was fresh the young waitress said not sure well it’s out of a carton (didn’t really need to be told that bit). Choose the breakfast this was served with luke warm beans and luke warm hash brown. Portions very small just 1 sausage, 1 egg, 2 small bits of bacon and 1 huge tomato probably just to fill the plate up. No one even bothered asking if everything was ok at the table or when we paid at the till, just took the payment. Very disappointing would definitely not recommend far better breakfast available elsewhere inc Wetherspoons.

We had gone to celebrate our anniversary, however on arrival, we stood where it stated to be seated, but no one acknowledged us so we went to the bar. We were shown to our table which was on the terrace. Jared was our waiter and was very friendly and polite. However he told us that three of the main menu options were unavailable as they had been busy, this was a Thursday night at 6.30pm, not a weekend. We made our choice and the food arrived quickly. The temperature dipped and another young couple said they were cold and asked if one of the patio heaters could be lit, they were told the heater did not work and offered a blanket instead. While we were there food for another table was delivered to the wrong table. I not sure if it is poorly managed but menu doesn’t offer a large choice, so when this is even more restricted by options not being available it’s quite poor. It’s such a shame as it is a lovely spot and could have been so much nicer. I don’t think we would dine here again.

Booked for Fathers Day Lunch. Menu was good and meals selected - once meals ordered we waited for just over 45 mintues, then when asking supervisor on day, was advised she would check and was informed our was next to be plated - she said it would be 5-10 minutes - 8 mintues later our food turned up. so nearly 1 hour from ordering to receiving our food is a long period of time.

The cook was having a off day or did see my dinner we have been a number of times very nice food ,this Sunday it would seem food was cooked with all the care of school meals and covered up with gravy the stuffing was balls, could have used gun shot it would have gone through plate glass no problem, the lamb that my wife plate after uncovering the gravy was small and all fat, second school meal, the portion had got small, but food was cold, the cook was wandering about the the food hall to busy chatting up staff in food hall something gone wrong?
