Really disappointed this time at Dilli Haat. We always make a point of coming here when we’re in Bournemouth as the food is excellent. However this time after our meal we were finishing our drinks and we were asked to leave as people were waiting outside for a table! We weren’t even offered a dessert. We did finish our drinks and left a £10 tip and the waiter literally whipped it out of my partner’s hand without even a thank you, he just wanted us out for the next table. We booked the table for 8pm and we weren’t there for a long period of time, as I say we hadn’t even been offered dessert. Not great customer service!

We first visited this restaurant at its infancy and were bowled over by the freshness, originality and care put into every dish. Sadly this has paled into ambivalence. We were sat at a tiny table in the passageway between front and back despite there being many tables available in the front. These were, we were told all reserved. They weren’t filled until long after we’d left. Our starters which were the highlight of our previous visit were onion bhajis, made way too large so the amount of crispy exterior was overwhelmed by a stodgy centre, fried potato cakes in chat which were flabby and flavourless. We had expected a zing of tamarind and for the potato to shine through but alas it was a plate of mush. We also ordered reshmi malai tikka which was over sweet and the chicken had a questionable texture. When I complained, I was told that only Indian people like that dish. At this point we were ready to walk but I’m glad we didn’t because we were moved to a table in the window and were brought a main of Methi Chicken which was superb. Fresh fenugreek took this dish to great places. Our basmati rice was cooked with such skill that each grain was long, unbroken and separate from its neighbours. So a meal of two halves but a final bill of £70 plus service seemed an awful lot for one chicken curry and rather too much disappointment.

This was our third visit to this curry house and we have always enjoyed it. The only criticism was that the table were at was wonky.

Very helpful staff explaining the difference between genuine Indian cooking and the Bangladeshi version that is offered in most Indian Restaurants. They made recommendations which I am pleased I followed. The food was lovely and good knowledgeable staff. I was impressed

Lovely food. Good value for money and excellent service. Noise level later on was quite high but it wouldn't stop me going again.

The starters were really nice. The main course was okay not the best. Still got Christmas decorations up won’t be going back sorry. We’ve been before not the same as last time as it once was
