About Dia de Campo
A blend of old school and new school Mexican meets West Coast fish house and raw bar.
Día de Campo owners Chef Tin Vuong and Jed Sanford’s vision for a Mexican and seafood restaurant set in the South Bay of Los Angeles. Located in Hermosa Beach, just a block off the sand and strand, Día de Campo is a modern surf lodge, of sorts, catering to those who want to disconnect, leave the day behind and gather with friends and strangers over flavorful food and drinks. The menu has Chef Tin paying homage to the array of Mexican and Latino food he’s enjoyed growing up in LA, mostly coming out of cocinas east of the LA River, while also taking inspiration from the fish houses, oyster bars and surf shacks along the coasts of California, Mexico, Hawaii and wherever the Pacific meets the sand.

Dia de Campo Ratings and Reviews
I’ve eaten here for happy hour and the drinks/food and service have all been great. We decided to utilize DineLa for dinner and were terribly disappointed with the food and service. A complete waste of $49/person. My fajitas comprised of equal parts hanger steak to onions and all items were served very spicy (no other option given). The waitress required we order all courses together.
Once again, five stars. Took our European family there for an authentic Mexican meal, like one that you'd get at a Hipster restaurant in Mexico City. Ordered two items from the "Mis Amigos" portion of the menu, a couple of starters and had a ton left over for five people. All loved the food and the drinks (especially the Mezcal Margarita)! Huge hit with everyone. This is pretty much one of the only restaurants we always take family when they come visit us in LA.
Its usually a bit on the loud side, but this last time the ambiance was perfect. A must if you are in the South Bay.
We've been coming for dinner 3 or 4 times a year.......2015 - great - we loved every dinner - food and service. 2016 - was ok. 2017 has been a little disappointing. Not sure we'll come back again. Shame. We thought we'd found a local mexican restaurant with really good food, good vibe, the kind of place we could come to with friends....
Delicious Mexican food!! Everything about it was great. Only down side was the annoying American pop music playing. I don’t know if they were trying to attract a younger crowd. But as a 20 year old, it really turned me off. Authentic music or even Latin pop would have sufficed. Anyways, great experience still and will definitely be back!
I was very excited to try this place after hearing about it from my boyfriend (he said the tacos were good) and seeing a brunch voucher for two on Travelzoo.
After being seated, the parties on either sides of our table were served with waters refilled and we still have not met our server. Finally, one of the waitresses poured us some water and told us that our server will be with us shortly with the champagne for our mimosas (included in voucher). What she brought was a flavored sparkling wine that did not mix very well with OJ, it also had a taste and you can tell that it was one of those that will give you a headache. It was not a real mimosa.
My girlfriend ordered the Dia Beni (which she enjoyed) as recommended by our server and I ordered my usual chilaquiles (it was awfully salty!). We informed her that I didn’t care for my food too much and she was more than happy to exchange it with something else. She comp’d the churros I ordered (nothing spectacular) and my friend ordered the tres leches (which she said was whatever).
Went for hubby’s birthday. We had a Travel Zoo voucher and were warmly greeted. The “Tots”are a must and the house aioli we delicious. For the bottomless mimosas, you get a full bottle of sparkling wine and a carafe of OJ so you can mix your own custom balance! We had the Dia Bene, burrito of the day and chicken and churros (their version of chicken and waffles.). All were superb. The restaurant can be loud at dinner but was very civilized at brunch. Service was lovely and we will definitely be back!!
Loved it! Food was delish, and we had a great birthday celebration. Excellent tacos and appetizers. We had a 8p res and they called about 10 minutes before that to say they were running late, which worked for us, but when we got there at 8:30 we still had to wait. The hostess was so nice though that it didn't matter that much to us. We were escorted to the bar and ordered delicious cocktails while we waited.
Food was great. Drinks were average which was a bummer. Food this good deserves a great margarita or cocktail and they just weren't good. Four of us had different drinks and none of us were excited about them. Would definitely go back for the food and just stick with a beer to be safe.
We go to Dia De Campo regularly. The food is really delicious (lamb braised taco machismo style is amazing) . We had some friends visiting from Sydney, Australia and they wanted Mexican food. They loved the food at Dia De Campo and raved about the Lamb Tacos, Chorizo Stuffed Dates, Guacamole, and the list goes on and on. Definitely recommend this place.
A new venue with great potential. Pleasant ambiance and an interesting menu. While the mixed cerviche was excellent, the prepared dishes, to our taste, had an unpleasant flavor. Perhaps we are too accustomed to the flavors of Mexico, and we were put off by a chef reaching for new frontiers of flavor.
Poor service in an empty restaurant. Server was busy talking with coworkers and so I had to go and break into their conversation to make my order. In fact, when we walked in, they were all in the back chatting as well. The hostess seemed annoyed she had to do her job. But there were TWO people in the entire place at that point. When we left, there were 8. “There’s your sign.”
The ambiance is very nice. The food was ok. The best thing I tasted was the Elote. When my dessert came out, i started to eat and there was a piece of wax paper in between there. I pulled it out of the dessert. I informed the waitress and she brought me another dessert. I was shocked that with a mistake like that, my dessert wasn't comped. Customer Service wasn't a priority!
My first time here, on a Wednesday night, and we found metered parking withing a few blocks. The restaurant was beautiful and our server was present and helpful. The menu is creative modern Mexican. I prefer vegetarian or seafood, cooked and without egg, and I did not find many choices. An adventurous carnivore would find lots to choose from. We didn't try the cocktails or dessert, but they sounded appealing.
We went here for brunch for the first time and found the restaurant quite nice. The food we ordered; Pork Chili Verde and Chicken and Churros were amazing. There Churros are so good; crispy on the outside and soft in the inside, we ordered it as a dessert after brunch. The endless mimosa's that came with our brunch was a nice treat. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Went to Dia de Campo for my daughter's birthday. The decor is Mexican / rustic with really cool art work on the walls and around the room. My wife and I had the margaritas and they great. Very unique taste but reminiscent of traditional style drinks. The black salsa and Guac was awesome! I had the lamb chimichanga and enjoyed it immensely. Again a very different twist on a Mexican restaurant staple. The atmosphere was a bit noisy but it was a fun loving crowd that was relaxing in a cool place. Defenitely a fun place for a date! Will go back!
