Día de Campo owners Chef Tin Vuong and Jed Sanford’s vision for a Mexican and seafood restaurant set in the South Bay of Los Angeles. Located in Hermosa Beach, just a block off the sand and strand, Día de Campo is a modern surf lodge, of sorts, catering to those who want to disconnect, leave the day behind and gather with friends and strangers over flavorful food and drinks. The menu has Chef Tin paying homage to the array of Mexican and Latino food he’s enjoyed growing up in LA, mostly coming out of cocinas east of the LA River, while also taking inspiration from the fish houses, oyster bars and surf shacks along the coasts of California, Mexico, Hawaii and wherever the Pacific meets the sand.

Food took far too long to come out and when it did it was cold. Chips and salsa took 30 minutes.

Drinks were delicious and the decor was adorable though!

Went for my wife’s birthday and the place didn’t disappoint. The service is friendly and super quick. Food is delicious - my favorite were the Birria Tacos and the drinks are not too bad. 100% will go back.

Issac, our server, could not have been more wonderful. He checked on us the perfect amount of times, like he knew we were ready to order, ask questions, etc. the tequila selection is perfection and love the ambiance. Happy hour food is delightful and we all had a great time.

Great place to bring friends or take a date. Ambience was fantastic, drinks were great, and the food was amazing. The only thing was that the service was slow(ish) and we had to flag our waiter down multiple times. Beyond that, would totally go back and recommend to a friend.

I love their tacos! Highly recommend the crispy avocado taco! I love their guacamole too, the portion size is perfect and their chips - OMG so good. I also recommend their 'pick your pepper' margarita - I always choose Chipotle! Friendly and helpful staff members too!

Great ambience and vibe in this mildly lively spot. Good authentic Mexican fare; good beer selections. GREAT service (esp during pandemic). Extremely clean bathrooms too. Good choice for date night, family get together or after work crowd

The bone-in carnitas are typically amazing. This weekend, it was very, very dry. Otherwise, the food was good. The service industry is definitely still trying to recover. Our waiter had no idea of the tequilas on hand but that is not unusual. Just make yourself a cheat sheet. Our food was delivered and he never checked back with us. We requested the check from another wait staff member. He never circled back around hence the very low tip.

Overall great ambience, not too busy so the chefs had all the time in the world to perfect each dish. Starting off with the drinks my michelada looked like I got it from a dive in bar luckily the sangria my gf had was very tasty. For starters we ordered the grilled octopus which was very nice not super chewy, the guacamole with dungeons crab was ok it definitely needed some seasoning and lime. The ceviche mixto had the same issue it was under seasoned and needed lime. The oysters were yummy but they were on the smaller side. My favorite had to be the street corn which is hard to get wrong it was sweet and well cooked. As for the main dish we had the lobster tumbado the rice and beans seems to come out of a can they could be a lot more authentic and fresh made. The lobster itself was really good. Overall liked the place but probably wouldn’t come back.

During brunch hours right before dinner menu switch…they took our orders and we kept waiting and waiting, turned out they forgot to put in our orders. Now because of the menu switch, we were just left with chips and salsa and oysters. My little one didn’t get his food and not too happy about leaving a 2 year old hungry. Did the restaurant do anything to take care of us? Nope, just a apology and that they are busy. That’s no excuse. And also if you get a reservation with them, expect still to wait 30 minutes. Not to be a jerk as I felt bad for our waiter/bartender, but this place sucks and I definitely would reconsider coming here again. (And I never leave ratings or reviews especially, negative ones, they must have really done something wrong right?!)

The food was incredible! Cauliflower and crispy avocado tacos are recommended along with the birria. The margaritas were not amazing. Too few utensils (because they have double the tables?), and drinks took forever. Plus, table by the street means that you also have the boys from the to-go order crowd. Overall though, we would take out from here every day!

Excellent, unique Mexican food. Several very good ceviche items and the pastor for two is one of the best dishes we have had in a long time. And the margaritas are terrific.

Our waiter forgot to put our food order in. It was only until we asked two other servers that they had realized he didn’t put our orders in an hour ago. We were told 10-15min and our food should be here. The manager visited our table and professionally apologized. An hour later two plates came out, but it wasn’t what was ordered. We decided to cut our losses and leave. The drinks we received were comp’ed and the manager invited us back. I’ll give them another go as I’m sure the food is delicious.

The happy hour menu was limited. I ordered the chopped chicken salad. The chicken was very tasty, but besides the chicken, there weren't many more ingredients. For $19 I would have expected a lot more vegetables and black beans, cheese. It was mostly chicken and lettuce. Overall, pricey for what you are getting.

We love the bone-in carnitas and al pastor. Those two dishes fed 7 of us. Plenty of food for sure.

The service is another story. We waited 15 minutes to be seated only to be brought to a table missing a seat. Not a big thing but definitely and indication of the staffing shortage. We mowed down the chips and asked for a second basket and never received it. The waitress was doing the best she could but it was pretty rough.

Our family loves the food but I don't think you will have repeat customers from our friends who joined us that evening.

And so goes the cycle for restaurants. Very sad...

Came in for weekend brunch. The burrito of the day was fantastic. HUGE portion. Took half home for leftovers the next day! The empanada dish was very small, felt like appetizer size and not entree size. It tasted good, we just expected a larger portion or more than one empanada. We also ordered tots with the carne asada and egg on top. Big portion so it helped balance out the small empanada dish. Bottomless mimosas with either grapefruit or orange juice. I’m not a huge mimosa person but I do like grapefruit juice so I’m glad there was more than just OJ. Service was good. The manager or owner (not sure which she was) came to check on us a few times and was very friendly. Parking can be difficult though so just prepare to spend some time finding parking. We were late for our reservation due to the garage being full across the street and having to find parking elsewhere, but luckily they were still very nice and accommodating.

Server was a bit slow probably dues to running inside table as well as outdoors. Management was excellent in walk-bus and checking if we were being serviced. Food was very good, and the outdoors option was welcomed.

I have been here before but only for dinner which is great, but this was my first time trying brunch and I loved it!! Bottomless Mimosas, I had the chilaquiles which were so good but the French toast was the best thing I tried!! and not to mention the staff was super nice and friendly, the manager even came to our table to make sure everything was ok. Definitely will come back for brunch in the future.

Dia de campo is amazing, and a place i will come back to time and time again, i love the food and the service is almost always fantastic
This past time the service was underwhelming at best (to be fair they are a few weeks back to full capacity)
I had to flag down a staff member for any resemblance of service (which was a challenge in and of itself). This being said I had made a reservation!! which made the experience more frustrating.
None the less the food is still phenomenal, and generally speaking it’s a great dining experience. I know i had caught them on one of their off days, but it was a poor excuse for an expensive meal. The food is worth it 90% of the time, but with such poor service i left disappointed especially because i was showing my friend the place for her first time.

The brunch burrito was a hit!! But the short rib empanada was lack luster. Everyone was friendly and the bottomless mimosa deal was fabulous. But they sat us at a couch and coffee table which makes eating saucy dishes awkward especially when you’re wearing a dress. I’d come back and request a real table next time!
