Devi-Montreal Ratings and Reviews
In the past I always received great service at this restaurant. I reserved it for dinner since my family was in town from the US and love Indian cuisine. Upon arrival, the service people were attentive in that they took our coats and hung them. As the dining experience continued, it went downhill. The waitress filled our glasses with regular water despite our bottled water on the table. The wait time in between dishes was extremely long, while there were only 2-3 other tables in the entire place. There was a table beside ours who played loud music on their phones, making it difficult to speak at our table. We asked the waiter to tell them to lower the volume, we are in a public space which we found quite rude. When we asked for the bill, we asked the meal to be split 3 ways. The waitress split the entire bill which did not make sense since 1 member did not order alcohol, but had to pay for it. At the end, no one brought our coats back to us as we waited. Therefore, I went looking for them in the back of the restaurant. Overall, we were disappointed in the service even though the food was good.
Friendly staff, great food, prime location, plenty of food menu options, very decently priced, only thing I would change is for the lunch special desert to be Indian based (e.g. rasmalai, golab jamun, etc...) not a small piece of American sponge cake....other than that A+++++ :-)
My experience at Dévi was absolutely outstanding. Our waitress gave us a great table, checked on us regularly, and ensured that we loved everything about our meal. She gave great suggestions, as well. I went for my birthday on a special weekend away (I'm from Alberta), and both my date and I had an excellent time. The food was OUTSTANDING, as well, and the decor was absolutely wonderful. I even loved the little bathroom, tucked away downstairs! And the chai tea... my word...
Our only complaint was that a very large party took up most of the restaurant. They were incredibly loud, shouting and making a scene whenever a new party arrived. I was surprised the staff never requested them to quiet down. It probably would have been better if the rest of the restaurant had been left closed, because this party was wild!
I've been to many Indian restaurants and I've never been disappointed. Dévi is probably my favorite so far. The food is wonderful, flavorful and keeps you wanting more. Portions are ample and beautifully served by great and friendly staff. Definatly will be returning.
OMG! My wife and I were in Montreal for the evening from Ottawa and she had a craving for papadum! She looked for 10 minutes on tripadvisor and found Dévi on Crescent right across from Thursday's. Best table right on the 2nd floor with a view of Crescent. The Table d'Hôte was a perfect choice that allowed us to taste a few dishes and we added a mixed grill plate. Every dish was superb with just the right spiciness and full flavors that filled your mouth and lingered. We took our time to really savor each bite. A little appetizer on the house was a great start that was again very tasty. We have tried many Indian restaurant in Ottawa Toronto, Montreal and in the states and were just blown away. And at $120 for 2 with a half bottle of wine, it was perfect!
Very very pleased. Already recommended it 5 or 6 times since Friday evening!!
Came upon this after noticing it on a map. Checked it on Yelp and it had good reviews. It was even better than anticipated. The food was good and the ambiance was great. I booked it easily on Open Table and got a reservation while I was on my way up the block. I definitely recommend it!
I took my husband for his birthday and we had a very nice time! The restaurant is very nicely decorated, the wait staff was friendly and cordial, service was timely, efficient and attentive. Our water was always full, and we were often checked on. The food was delicious and fresh, the naan bread was amazing!!! A tad pricey but hey it's Montreal fine dining...the ambiance, experience and quality matches the price. Will definitely recommend and did and will definitely visit again.
My husband and I enjoyed a phenomenal meal at Devi on one of the coldest nights of the Valentine's weekend.
We noshed on:
- butter chicken ( which was moist and flavourful)
- dal makhani ( which was creamy and perfectly spiced)
- saag paneer ( which was cooked to perfection with lots of juicy paneer)
- lamb kulcha and regular naan
- Jasmine rice
The food was as good as ANY of the restaurants we have eaten at in Toronto (which are quite a few) and the service was warm, welcoming, accomodating and didn't hover over us.
We plan on visiting Devi the next time we're in Montreal!
I went to this restaurant with my parents in July of 2014. We sat outside and had such a wonderful experience. The waiter was friendly and chatty which was nice. So I decided to go back with my daughter on this trip. Of course it was January so we sat indoors. The waiter was not very friendly or attentive this time and the indoor atmosphere felt a little tense. The food was delicious though. Best Naan bread ever!
This is a great restaurant to visit for good Indian food if you're near Crescent street. This is a resto/bar/lounge type of place, but we went there just for dining. The service was impeccable, our waiter (Vinon) did an amazing job, the food arrived really fast too! The food itself was very good, although I've felt like the Rogan Josh was not spicey enough. I would recommend the $16.95 brunch special - the portions we were given were so huge that both of us could not finish our meals! Overall Devi is a great restaurant at a great location and I will definitely come back again.
Second visit to Devi and once again we were not disappointed. The food is fantastic. Great flavours, perfectly seasoned and the spicy dishes had the perfect level of spice and flavour balance. Service was efficient and friendly. A decent wine list with proper choices for an Indian restaurant. Highly recommend the Lamb Vindaloo and the Grilled Red Snapper.
I have been to Devi many times. This time I wanted my guest to enjoy Indian Fast Food so we ordered the vegetarian starters. The server was extremely considerate as my guest was a vegan and brought yogurt on the side for the Delhi Chat. Everything from the Karahee Bhindi, Onion Bhaji, Tikya, Delhi Chat and Tandoori Mushrooms was scrumptious! Devi never disappoints...
The atmosphere is very nice and pleasant but the food was just not even close to the look of the restaurant. The prices of the food were double the cost compared to other restaurants and did not taste as good either. Very disappointed! Cooked very unhealthy and the prices are way too much for the quantity and quality of the food. Restaurant needs to adjust their prices according to the quality of the food.
We have been several times to Devi restaurant, either for lunch or for dinner.
Their food is of excellent quality, well spiced and dishes are easy to share. Leftovers can be wrapped and taken home. This is one of the best Indian food restaurants in Montreal.
The only downside is that the waiters do not know how to serve wine (instead of sharing the wine to all 6 people at the table, he poured glasses too full so that the bottle was empty when arriving to the last person.
great food, nice deco, really good service. In not a indian food type of girl but my boyfriend adores it. i changed my mind on indian food because it was really tasty. i took the lamb( so tander) and my bf took the grilled plate( great). id definitly recommand this resto.
We have been to Devi before and liked it. Tonight the service was good, but the food just ok. The daal was mushy and not so flavorful. When I ordered Saag Paneer, something chicken came out. The server had a hard time that Saag Paneer should not have chicken in it, but did quickly fix the issue. The Saag Paneer was good, the naan excellent, and the rasmalli really good.
Given our other experiences there willing to chalk this to an off night.
I love this place and am never disappointed , always the best Indian vindaloo and chicken Massala and biryani and Samoza and paneer entrees , you cannot be disappointed , the food made by an authentic Indian way using the most flavorful spices that makes you dazzled with the incredible taste , a location on crescent at the terrace will make you enjoy the food at its most , a place not to miss !
Having struggled to find truly hot and spicy Indian food Devi is an excellent choice. Both my wife and I love hot and spicy and the lamb and chicken vindaloos didn't disappoint.
Starters were excellent and overall a very enjoyable meal. I think for me it's the best Indian cuisine I have found so far.
I've gone to Devi twice in the last 6 months, once for a quiet, romantic diner, and once for a birthday party. In both cases, the staff was very warm, friendly and always went the extra mile. From taking our coats to holding the door on the way out, they really went all out to treat us like guests in their restaurant.
The food is delicious, not too spicy, served on warm plates with all the little extras.
The decor is exotic and stylish.
We were a group of ten on a Sunday night with a snow storm in progress so the place was quite empty. Decor is very appealing, service was fast, server was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was great. Those who like spicy got spicy, those who prefer mild got that too. Great (although expensive) wine selection. I even got a complimentary cheesecake for my birthday! I would definitely come back for a special occasion or a romantic dinner.
